Apocalypse: Last Traveler

Chapter 146: The Fog Recedes

The car kept moving forward, the blood mist and blood water quickly fell behind, disappearing from Lu Xi'an and Yao Wei's view.

Both breathed a slight sigh of relief, and Lu Xi'an said, "It seems the physical strength of that person isn't too high. My hidden weapon accuracy isn't too bad either."

"Yeah."

Yao Wei, who was driving, responded briefly and slowed the car a bit, asking, "Do you want to drive? I'll get on the roof."

Lu Xi'an refused, "Forget it, I'll stay on top. The person doesn't come close, and the part I threw didn't hit the vital point.

"In case he isn't dead and he's still able to pursue us on the fish, he might keep his distance and be more cautious.

"Your handgun's range isn't enough, I'll handle it when the time comes."

Both were unsure if the danger in the water had completely disappeared, so they felt it necessary to keep someone on the car roof without planning to return inside.

"Yeah."

Yao Wei responded again, after a slight pause, and then said, "You should teach me how to throw hidden weapons, I throw them inaccurately."

Lu Xi'an: "..."

He recalled how he couldn't shoot a gun back then and was so envious of Yao Wei, wanting to learn from her, but now things had changed, and Yao Wei was asking him for guidance.

But honestly, like Yao Wei, his skills were all based on intuition; he couldn't really explain it.

So he could only sigh and said, "I'm relying on feeling as well, let's practice together when we have time. Practicing more will never be wrong.

"And unlike guns, we don't need to worry about consuming bullets. We can practice by picking up stones from the ground."

"Yeah."

Yao Wei agreed.

They drove for a while longer, and the fog gradually lessened. They were still following the lakeside road, unable to leave it.

However, the fish and human in the water did not reappear, seemingly having truly been driven away by Lu Xi'an.

Lu Xi'an sat on the roof, talking to Yao Wei about the fish and human in the water, conveying his speculations: "What do you think, Yao Wei?"

Both of them had good hearing, so by speaking a little louder, even one on the car and one inside could hear each other easily.

Yao Wei said, "Yeah."

It seemed Yao Wei also found it reasonable.

Lu Xi'an glanced at the water's surface again and asked, "How do you think that person controlled the fish?"

As their vehicle headed west, the fog gradually abated, the water reservoir seemed endless with no sight of the shore, reminding Lu Xi'an of Yu Bei's reservoir.

So large...

The surface was calm and undisturbed, as if the fish and human had never appeared, but Lu Xi'an remained vigilant, continuously watching the water from the roof.

"Sweating."

Yao Wei, who was driving, answered with two words, leaving Lu Xi'an speechless.

Truly terse...

"I mean... he might have mastered some Type C Neo-Human abilities, controlling other animals with pheromones in sweat.

"What kind of pheromones and in what way did he control that big fish to carry him?"

Yao Wei thought for a moment and said, "I don't know..."

Lu Xi'an pondered for a while and thought of two possible ideas.

But these ideas were somewhat difficult to share with Yao Wei, so he didn't speak them out loud.

One idea he thought of was that the man used pheromones to pleasure the fish enough to become addicted, becoming the man's puppet.

Or another idea was that he used pheromones to make the fish enter a mating state, allowing him to ride it?

"Hiss!"

Thinking of this, Lu Xi'an gasped in surprise.

Type C Neo-Humans, terrifying indeed!

"What's the matter?"

Yao Wei asked from inside the car.

"Nothing."

Lu Xi'an replied, "I just took a breath of cool air to check its taste."

"No taste."

Yao Wei answered.

"..."

Lu Xi'an was silent for a moment, asking, "You tasted it?"

...

The car continued for a while, and a river branched out from the reservoir called Liang River. They continued along it, and Liangcheng County gradually appeared in their view.

Lu Xi'an shaded his eyes and looked ahead, saying, "There's a split up ahead, one road goes south along the East Outer Ring, and the other goes west along the North Outer Ring. Are we sticking to the original plan?"

Yao Wei said, "Change the route, keep away from the river."

"Alright."

Lu Xi'an agreed.

He was thinking the same; otherwise, he wouldn't have asked Yao Wei.

The mutant fish and human appeared in the reservoir, and even though he hit that person, it didn't strike a vital point.

Although that person sank into the water, Lu Xi'an still couldn't be sure if he was dead or alive.

What if he was alive and still harbored intentions against them?

Not everyone in this world, like them, would think of leaving when faced with unsolvable problems.

Based on the map, the Liang River turns as it reaches Liangcheng, heading south along the East Outer Ring. Although smaller than the reservoir, it could still accommodate the big fish, posing a potential danger.

So keeping away from Liang River and moving from the North Outer Ring to the West Outer Ring would be relatively safer.

This meant they couldn't visit the gas station on the East Outer Ring. But that's okay, there's still one on the South Outer Ring.

They made their decision and were about to slightly turn south up ahead and enter the North Outer Ring.

As they got closer to the county, the dilapidated county town looked worse than Ox Head County and Jianshan City's urban areas, with no tall buildings or any that had collapsed.

From the east side, they could see many buildings in the county town had already collapsed.

"Do you think there might have been an earthquake here before?"

Lu Xi'an speculated, "The tunnel on the east side collapsed, and many buildings here have collapsed too."

"Yeah."

Yao Wei didn't understand much about these things, but she felt Lu Xi'an's speculation must be reasonable.

But none of that mattered; they had no plans to enter the town and just wanted to bypass it and head south.

Now they only hoped that if there had been an earthquake, the gas station on the South Outer Ring wasn't affected.

Hopefully, it wasn't affected...

Lu Xi'an thought in his heart.

Gas stations should have earthquake and risk-resistant designs, right? They're fairly dangerous places...

"Crash—"

While he was pondering this, out of the Liang River, suddenly a huge creature emerged, blocking Yao Wei's car from the side, covering the sky.

Yao Wei quickly braked, avoiding the car being crushed by the massive creature.

Lu Xi'an, anticipating Yao Wei's action, crouched down and grasped the luggage rack on the car roof, avoiding being thrown off.

The huge creature landed, blocking the road ahead, covered in brown fur, eyes glowing red—it was an enormous brown bear!
