Apocalypse: Last Traveler

Chapter 139: Exploration and Discovery (Part 3)

But it's okay, he wasn't after the drink inside the Bottle.

He directly opened the Bottle's cap, poured out all the unknown liquid inside, and then said to Yao Wei, "Now we have the Bottle, we don't need to use our mineral water bottles."

"Mm."

Yao Wei nodded and said, "But we still don't have a tube."

Lu Xi'an reassured, "It's okay, don't worry, there are still many places in this village that we haven't searched yet. We'll find them slowly."

Though he said that, there really weren't that many.

After searching all the street-side shops, there were only a few buildings left standing in the whole village, not defeated by the changes of the apocalypse and time.

The next targets were of course these places, and it wouldn't take long; probably by the next morning they would have finished searching.

If they finished searching and still couldn't find a suitable tube, they would have to give up.

Unfortunately... the tubes connecting to the fuel nozzle on the gas pump had some special materials, which might not be very suitable for making an oil pump.

Otherwise, it wouldn't be such a hassle.

So they started walking outside the main street.

Looking in from the alleyway's edge, there was a house about a hundred meters in, a two-story building that hadn't collapsed, though the yard was down, the building hadn't fallen.

Lu Xi'an drove in and walked slowly.

Yao Wei wasn't in a hurry to search inside the house. She stood on top of the car holding Gou and said to Gou, "Gou, take a look, under these collapsed houses, are there any tubes?"

Gou was held by her and scanned the ground on both sides by lowering its head.

This made her feel quite accomplished; she could command Gou now.

But unfortunately, Gou had no discoveries.

Until the car reached the side of the small building, Gou's eyes suddenly lit up, reflecting off the side wall of the first floor of the building.

"Lu Xi'an!"

Yao Wei immediately called from the car roof.

Lu Xi'an stopped the car. However, they weren't in a hurry; they first let the drone go through the broken window, and after confirming there was no problem, then entered.

After entering the small building, it was actually a mess inside, already looted long ago with basically no valuable "garbage" left.

But the two were focused and looked directly towards the side wall, immediately noticing the narrow cabinet attached to it. After opening it, there were two rows of iron pipes connected to the ground inside.

"Is this... floor heating?"

Yao Wei instantly thought of the shelters in Xiaogang Village and the trenches Lu Xi'an had dug up in the shelter's ground.

"Mm... Seems like a floor heating distributor?"

Lu Xi'an found it somewhat familiar, so he said.

No wonder this cabinet was so narrow, it turned out to be for storing and decorating this...

But none of that mattered.

They needed tubes, and what Gou pointed out couldn't possibly be these iron pipes.

Lu Xi'an's gaze fell on the remaining not-so-large space within the narrow cabinet, where there were some sundries: a broken small plastic bucket, a handle-less small plastic shovel, and a plastic water gun.

Lu Xi'an confirmed that a child once lived here.

But so much time had passed, these things were long unusable, becoming extremely fragile with the alternating seasons, breaking at a touch.

Hopefully, the tube isn't...

Among those sundries, Lu Xi'an found quite a long tube, feeling somewhat anxious inside.

The tube looked like a rubber tube. But if it's rubber, it should have been damaged by the cold weather, right?

He reached out and picked it up; dust filled the tube, and as he moved, the dust rose, making him and Yao Wei hold their breaths involuntarily.

But none of that mattered.

The thing that pleasantly surprised Lu Xi'an while also bringing relief was that, although this tube was a bit stiff, it was still flexible, looking fine and not becoming brittle over time.

"Gou, take a look."

Lu Xi'an immediately instructed Gou, "Check if there's any damage on this tube?"

The mechanical dog still in Yao Wei's hand immediately received the command, and its eyes began scanning the tube.

Now Yao Wei seemed to like holding Gou in her hand, reducing the time Gou's four metal paws touched the ground, avoiding the constant "clink-clank" and swaying walk.

This was actually quite convenient.

Gou scanned the tube from end to end, then its eyes stayed lit.

Lu Xi'an smiled at Yao Wei, "Alright, there's no problem. This tube isn't damaged, the material seems suitable, and the thickness and length appear usable. We can start working now."
