Apocalypse: Last Traveler

Chapter 101: Red Dots

"Two more?!"

Lu Xi'an's heart skipped a beat, his brow furrowed as he glanced at Yao Wei.

Yao Wei happened to be looking over at him as well.

This woman understood it too.

But Lu Xi'an quickly thought of something and looked down again to study the screen.

The screen showed three red dots clustered together, one of which was glaringly bright, two others were relatively bright, while another red dot was very dim, as if it were on its last legs, about to extinguish at any moment, slightly distanced from the other three red dots.

Lu Xi'an turned and dragged the person sitting against the pillar over, pressing their head against the car's hood and in front of the screen, asking, "Where is this on here?"

The map on the screen was already zoomed in enough to show only the urban area of Mengxin City.

Unlike Yao Wei's "World Map One," it didn't have key locations marked out, but the grid lines still made it clear where roads and buildings were.

It showed where roads were wide or narrow, and where the buildings had large or small footprints.

Lu Xi'an could even see a large square on the map, containing a small square and a small circle, clearly representing their current location.

The three bright red dots were also within this large square.

The person, using this distinctive location as a reference, figured out the other areas.

Following Lu Xi'an's finger to the dimly glowing red dot, they said, "That's where our people are staying.

"I saw this earlier; that person showed it to me. Back then, there was only one red dot, which they said represented him.

"There was another one outside the city, similar to this one..."

They were referring to the brightest red dot, and as Lu Xi'an listened, his mind became increasingly clear, and he glanced into the car.

The Fungus Stone, wrapped in wolf skin, was now inside the car.

The person continued, "Boss, the red dot you mentioned was outside the city, then came into the city, and has only been here for a couple of days.

"Is this red dot representing a person? Should be, right? He's hiding where our people are, but our people didn't tell that person. That person got angry but didn't tell our people.

"After discovering this red dot, that person warned us to be cautious, threatened us not to tell our people or we'd be in trouble.

"Then they left, and didn't bother with the red dot anymore."

Lu Xi'an confirmed his thoughts—

The brightest red dot above represented the Fungus Stone, while the other two red dots were him and Yao Wei.

So who was the dimly glowing red dot? Comparing the previous woman's and this person's words, the answer was obvious.

Chai Xin, influenced by the Fungus Stone, indeed transformed into a Neo-Human.

Evolving from "Type D-1" to D-type Neo-Human.

It's just that the change was recent, and the evolution might not be complete, so it appeared weak.

That's why this weak red dot only appeared in Mengxin City's urban area recently and was captured by people there.

But... was it because the evolution was incomplete, or was the combat strength of the D-type Neo-Human inherently not that strong?

To be caught by ordinary people, Chai Xin's strength compared to other Neo-Humans is really quite different.

Lu Xi'an initially wanted to ask the person he was holding if the weak red dot was Chai Xin, but after hearing what they said, it seemed they didn't know, so he tossed the person back to the pillar.

He went back to discuss his assessment with Yao Wei, who thought it over, nodded, and felt he was right.

Next steps were straightforward—they were already here and determined there wasn't much risk; they definitely had to visit the spot marked on the Resonant Gene Scanner's map.

Lu Xi'an turned off the Resonant Gene Scanner, unplugged it, and carefully stashed it in the back of the car.

Initially, it was already packed to capacity, with even the wolf carcass they'd acquired earlier mounted on the roof.

But luckily, the Resonant Gene Scanner was a flat, rectangular object, and given that Lu Xi'an and Yao Wei had consumed some rice these days, there was just enough room to squeeze it in.

After all was prepared, Yao Wei had already tossed the two bound individuals onto the car roof and climbed up herself, saying, "Let's go."

Lu Xi'an smacked his tongue.

Yao Wei truly lived up to her name; having already stood her ground once with a foot on a head, and now with two bound people at her feet, gun at her waist, and bow and arrow in hand, she looked exceptionally formidable.

"What are you looking at?"

Noticing Lu Xi'an's gaze, Yao Wei slightly furrowed her brow and asked.

Lu Xi'an chuckled, saying, "Just admiring how impressive you look, what else?"

Yao Wei: "..." She suddenly felt a bit embarrassed and averted her gaze.

Lu Xi'an got back into the car, closed the door, turned around, and drove out of the courtyard.

As for Gou, he was still with Yao Wei, and the drone was released into the sky, keeping a vigilant watch over the surroundings with no blind spots.

Lu Xi'an had memorized the location on the map just now, and with Mengxin City's roads being quite simple, he just needed to drive there by memory.

The road was easy to navigate, being the same one they had taken on the way here.

Close to the city edge, it was essentially the suburbs of the city, with a few rows of low houses overgrown with weeds. The dim red dot flickered at the far edge of the fourth row of low houses.

When they entered the city, they had passed through here, but no one came out, seemingly intimidated by their presence.

Now that they were back, the display was even more imposing, likely scaring off the residents even more.

The journey went smoothly, and upon reaching the place, indeed no one appeared.

Lu Xi'an got out of the car but didn't force his way in. Instead, he dragged one person down from the roof, who turned out to be the one who had been talking to him.

Meanwhile, Yao Wei remained on the car, bow drawn, watching the weedy, dilapidated houses ahead with caution.

Gou had already directed the drone to circle above the low houses.

When the drone returned, Lu Xi'an asked, "Can you see anyone inside?"

Gou's eyes brightened, indicating a yes.

"How many?"

Lu Xi'an asked again.

Gou's dog eyes lit up once more.

However, Lu Xi'an wouldn't easily conclude there was only one person inside.

The drone might have only spotted someone in the courtyard, missing others concealed by buildings.

If there was only one person, who would be watching Chai Xin?

If no one was watching, it would mean the person was Chai Xin, and it wouldn't make sense for him not to escape.

Lu Xi'an untied the person he'd dragged down, climbed onto the car's footplate to retrieve the Neo-Human's head from the roof, and handed it to them, saying, "Go ahead, with this person's head inside, and pass on my message."
