Apocalypse: Last Traveler

Chapter 100: Terror, Unparalleled

Lu Xi'an couldn't help but admire this person a little, feeling that his flattery skills had already become second nature, coming out effortlessly.

"You're too kind, you're too kind."

Lu Xi'an smiled and said to the man, then placed the Resonant Gene Scanner on the car's hood.

After placing it, he turned his head to ask the person leaning nearby, "Was this thing initially found in that hole?"

That person was the one who had been responsible for answering Lu Xi'an all along. He was about to sit down by leaning against the car's tire, but a glare from Yao Wei startled him, and he quickly rolled over to a pillar by the door to sit down.

The car was quite close to the door, so he was still relatively near Lu Xi'an.

As for the other person, he retreated to the side and sat leaning against the wall base.

Lu Xi'an noticed that after he asked this question, both of them showed signs of lingering fear, displaying a look of unbearable recollection of the past.

The person whom Lu Xi'an asked had a twitch at the corner of his eye and replied, "Yes. It was always in there.

"We never knew before; that iron door was always locked, and we couldn't go in.

"After that person came, he controlled us perfectly, making us work.

"He used some method we didn't know, making us feel miserable if we didn't work for him and ecstatic if we did.

"He forced us to pry out two pieces of that thing embedded in the wall for him, even at the cost of smashing through the wall with all our might.

"After much difficulty breaking through, we were exhausted to death, and he found this thing inside, then said he would reward us and make us happy.

"He still used that mysterious method, and suddenly we were extremely happy, so happy that several people died."

Saying this, the person showed a bit of a relieved expression, seemingly grateful he wasn't happily dead at that time.

Lu Xi'an thought that both he and Yao Wei were likely benefiting from the Neo-Humans' influence, with physical qualities far beyond ordinary people, thus lessening the effect of that Neo-Human's ability on them.

If he were like these people here and faced that Neo-Human's combo attack, he probably wouldn't survive it.

Happy to death, how terrifying!

Lu Xi'an didn't bother asking what tools these people used back then.

Recalling these things, Lu Xi'an felt it was possible they excitedly bashed their heads against the wall.

And for the mess inside the building, nothing intact, could it also be the people here, driven to wild excitement by that Neo-Human, went on an indiscriminate spree?

He asked again, "Have you seen how that person operates this thing?"

The person tied and sitting by the pillar continued answering, "He had something that could generate electricity, connected it to this machine.

"And those four long strips on top can also be erected. There's a small panel in the middle, which, when lifted, shows a display."

Only then did Lu Xi'an notice a small block embedded in the middle of the machine, which revealed a foldable screen when lifted up, able to rotate 180 degrees.

He opened that screen, set up the four long strips that should be antennas, and then looked for the plug.

As he searched, he asked, "Where's that thing he used?"

The person answered, "He used it today, then discarded it, saying it was out of power and couldn't be used.

"At that time, one of our people approached him to talk, saying they had found the Fungus Stone, and for some reason, he got angry and threw the thing at our person.

"The thing didn't hit anyone but flew out the window."

He nudged his chin toward the west side of the building, saying, "He threw it toward the west side; outside the building there, we should be able to find it."

Lu Xi'an went to look and indeed found something, similar to the "portable charger" Yao Wei used at the gas station before.

However, having fallen from a height of five floors, the thing was completely ruined, so Lu Xi'an gave up the idea of picking up this trash.

A perfectly good item, thrown away and broken just like that. Can't it be recharged and used later?

Lu Xi'an sighed, thinking that Neo-Human was indeed not on the same path as him, that killing him was no loss.

He returned to the car, seeing Yao Wei looking at him, he explained, "It's the same as your thing, but it fell from a height and shattered."

Yao Wei frowned as expected, saying, "What a waste!"

Lu Xi'an nodded in agreement, "Yeah, really doesn't know how to live!"

"Hmm."

Yao Wei also nodded in agreement, feeling a bit displeased.

The two tied-up people not far away opened their mouths, one left speechless, the other, sitting by the pillar, cleverly spoke up, "Yeah, yeah, that person is just useless!

"Big brother, sis, we were inexperienced before, only having seen him as a Neo-Human, thinking all Neo-Humans were like him.

"Seeing you two, I now know, compared to you, he's really far behind!

"Leaving aside his lack of power, just look at him now, only a head left, what's more, he doesn't even know how to live!

"Looking at how wasteful he was, without you two chopping off his head, he would starve to death sooner or later!"

Lu Xi'an: "…"

Yao Wei: "…"

This person is quite skilled, sneaking in flattery at any opportunity.

But it does feel enjoyable to hear such flattery occasionally, just slightly less intense than the thrill Neo-Human gave him. Lu Xi'an cupped his hands towards the man and smiled, "You're too kind, you're too kind."

The man hurriedly said, "Don't dare, don't dare, I'm just speaking the truth."

Lu Xi'an didn't bother with him further, went to the car hood, carefully checked, and found the hidden plug on the side, then called over Gou, to plug it in.

This gadget also had a switch on top, hidden on the side; pressing it, the lifted screen lit up.

The person leaning against the pillar couldn't help but flatter and praise the iron dog, claiming it was much better than that person's gadget, even able to run by itself.

Lu Xi'an and Yao Wei still didn't pay attention to him. However, Yao Wei's eyes brightened up, feeling the name "iron dog" was much better than Gou, thinking about whether to suggest to Lu Xi'an later to rename Gou.

This machine seemed a bit slow due to its age.

Lu Xi'an and Yao Wei waited a while before the screen finally turned blue.

The blue fluorescent screen was simplistic, showing only three icons: one for "Shutdown," one for "Self-Check," and one for "Start Scanning."

There was no mouse on this device, so Lu Xi'an thought for a moment, then tried using his finger for touch control, which actually worked.

He clicked "Start Scanning," and the three icons moved to the bottom of the screen, while the clicked "Start Scanning" turned into "Pause Scanning."

Soon after, the blue screen started to change, becoming a map of Mengxin City.

On the map, waves were spreading, circle by circle, indicating that the machine was conducting resonant scanning.

Lu Xi'an and Yao Wei didn't perceive anything unusual, perhaps the resonance and scanning worked silently.

After a short while, four red dots appeared on the map, all concentrated in one place.

Lu Xi'an extended two fingers, dragging on the screen, enlarging the area around the red dots, which turned out to be the urban area of Mengxin City.
