Apocalypse: I have a supermarket stocked with supplies

Chapter 58 - 58: His gift

Chapter 58: His gift

Su Yinhe was somewhat panicked, her already fast-beating heart now raced even faster.

She took out the gift she had prepared for Chi Yan, using it to cover up her own nervousness.

“This is for you.”

During the exchange, their fingertips inevitably touched again, and Su Yinhe felt her hand was a bit warm, as was her face.

“Thank you, I really like it. Also,” Chi Yan held the gift, looking seriously at her, “I meant what I said.”

Serious?

...

Serious about what?

About the massage?

All of Su Yinhe’s efforts were in vain; she couldn’t control herself, her heartbeat quickened further, as did her hand. It was just a fleeting touch, but it felt like the warmth lingered even until now.

“See you tomorrow.” Chi Yan hooked his lips into a smile, hesitated for a moment with his empty hand, then lightly touched the messy hair on her forehead.

She had just rolled around in bed again.

Chi Yan left.

Su Yinhe patted her head, feeling odd.

Really odd.

Why did she feel so strange?

Holding Chi Yan’s gift, Su Yinhe closed the door and after entering, she set the gift box on the table, then drank a glass of water.

After finishing a whole glass, the restlessness inside her subsided a bit.

She lingered for a while, estimated the time, they had left, and she decided it was time to go down and close the shop.

It wasn’t time for the Galaxy Supermarket to close yet, but if the boss wanted to close early today, then she’d close early.

When Su Yinhe stepped outside, she felt a bit clumsy. It took her a while to adjust before she could act normally again.

As for the gift box on the table, Su Yinhe deliberately ignored it.

At this point, there weren’t many customers in the supermarket. After she urged them a couple of times, they quickly left. Once everyone had gone, Su Yinhe locked up, peering through the glass to see the heavy rain outside.

It had been pouring for so many days with no sign of letting up. She had no idea when it would end.

Such heavy rain did affect the business of her supermarket.

Most importantly, few of the customers coming to the supermarket had umbrellas or raincoats; they came drenched in the rain, their clothes soaking wet, stepping inside and leaving watery footprints on the tile floor, dripping water continuously.

They dirtied her supermarket. But given the situation, Su Yinhe couldn’t just drive her customers out.

This was a vexation.

Also, such ceaseless rain really affected one’s mood.

Su Yinhe watched the downpour for a long time before slowly making her way upstairs, unsure of what she was afraid to face.

Once home, she stared at the gift box on the table for quite a while before taking it into her room.

After mentally preparing herself, she finally opened the box.

It was a little frog!

A plush little frog biting its paw.

The tiny creature lay quietly inside the gift box.

After picking it up, Su Yinhe discovered there were several pieces of stiff paper stacked beneath it.

They had drawings on them.

Once she unfolded them, she realized they were comic strips, a comic about a little frog.

The drawings were very cute and colored in.

The pieces of paper were numbered, and Su Yinhe arranged them in order, then read the story about why the little frog would bite its paw.

The story was concocted by Chi Yan, and he had drawn the comics as well.

On the back of the last piece of stiff paper, Su Yinhe saw “This story is purely fictional. Any resemblance to actual events is entirely coincidental. —Chi Yan.”

As she read, Su Yinhe couldn’t help but laugh.

She placed the small frog plush alongside the woven grass frog that Chi Yan had given her previously.

The several cards, she solemnly bookmarked into her favorite physical novel.

Chi Yan was so late getting back, and as soon as he did, Lin Murong started making faces at him.

Chi Yan skillfully ignored him.

“Brother Chi, how did it go? Any progress?” Lin Murong asked, full of curiosity. “Brother Chi, what gift did you give Little Galaxy?”

“Get back to work,” Chi Yan replied, not wanting to answer.

“Come on, tell me.” Work could wait, but gossip about Brother Chi was not always available.

“Want to know?” Chi Yan raised an eyebrow.

“Yes, yes,” Lin Murong nodded as rapidly as a pecking chick, extremely curious.

“Keep dreaming,” Chi Yan flicked Lin Murong’s forehead as he leaned in.

“Ow! Why are you so rough?” Lin Murong covered his head and cried out in pain.

“Get back to work,” Chi Yan was cold and indifferent without Su Yinhe.

“Tch! Fine, don’t tell me. I’ll ask Little Galaxy later,” Lin Murong muttered under his breath, but that didn’t stop him from getting on with his work.

That evening, Chi Yan began to unwrap the gift Su Yinhe had teased him about.

He unwrapped it slowly, spending a minute just on the ribbon.

Upon opening the box and seeing what was inside, he paused for a second.

It was a novel.

He picked up the book and flipped through it.

His lips curled into a smile, and in that instant, all his previous detachment faded away.

The next day, Galaxy Supermarket didn’t open.

Lin Murong was stunned when he arrived, and really wanted to shake Chi Yan and ask what on earth he had done when he got back.

But after thinking about the consequences, he didn’t dare to act on it.

Lin Murong didn’t dare, but Qin Mingzhou had no such reservations.

“Mr. Chi, what did you say to my sister?” Qin Mingzhou arrived full of confrontational questions.

“Hey, hey, hey, you really think you’re Little Galaxy’s sister… ugh, I mean, her brother. What Brother Chi said to Little Galaxy is none of your business,” Lin Murong really wanted to ask too, but seeing Qin Mingzhou’s demeanor, he retorted without a second thought.

“Why are you butting in? When adults are talking, children shouldn’t interrupt,” Qin Mingzhou dismissed Lin Murong as if he were inconsequential.

“Who the hell are you calling a child?” Lin Murong exploded. He wasn’t that young.

“You,” Qin Mingzhou glanced at his head.

This was unbearable.

This idiot actually dared to insult his height?

Lin Murong got angry, and the two started fighting with their superpowers.

Luckily, the space Chi Yan had obtained in exchange for supplies was large; otherwise, it wouldn’t have been enough for their brawl.

Qin Mingzhou was strong, but Lin Murong was no slouch. The fight was evenly matched.

After Lin Murong, who lost his cool, landed a punch on Qin Mingzhou, it dawned on him that he was actually there to confront Chi Yan, not Lin Murong.

“Lin Murong, back off. I’m here for Chi Yan,” Qin Mingzhou said.

Lin Murong wouldn’t listen and kept on fighting. The idiot had insulted his height, and that couldn’t be tolerated.

He had to beat an apology out of him.

Chi Yan watched for a while, put a layer of water film around his tent, and then went inside.

He didn’t enjoy watching fights; as long as they didn’t affect him, it was fine.

In the end, Qin Mingzhou and Lin Murong both fought until they were exhausted and finally stopped. Lying on the ground gasping for air, both were worse for wear.

Initially, they used their superpowers, but later it turned into a physical fight.

It was a draw, hard-fought.

“Mr. Qin, if you can’t even beat me, how will you cause trouble for Brother Chi?” Lin Murong stretched out his leg lazily and kicked him gently.

It wasn’t that he didn’t want to kick harder; he just didn’t have the strength left.

“My business with him is none of your damn concern. Have you become addicted to being a lackey?” Qin Mingzhou glared at him, infuriated. He was supposed to confront Chi Yan, not waste time brawling with this fool.
