Apocalypse: I Can See the HP Bar, Killing Monsters Drops Loot

Chapter 743: Encountering the Zombie Tide

The convoy continued towards the Zijin Base.

As they got closer to the Zijin Base, everyone noticed that the number of abandoned vehicles on the highway increased, especially at the highway entrance ahead, which was completely blocked by a large number of abandoned vehicles.

"Hoo hoo..."

Some zombies were still inside the abandoned vehicles, and upon hearing the commotion of the convoy's arrival, they immediately crawled out, growling.

"These people probably intended to go to the Zijin Base but ultimately fell halfway..."

Bai Hao waved his hand, and several soldiers immediately rushed over with the [Thousand-legged Blade] to deal with these Ordinary Zombies.

Wasting bullets on these scattered Ordinary Zombies was unnecessary, and there was no need to bother Wang Tao; using the Thousand-legged Blade Wang Tao provided yesterday was sufficient.

For them, this blade was like a divine weapon, capable of easily killing these Ordinary Zombies with a single slash.

At this moment, Wang Tao suddenly spoke:

"The number of zombies seems off; with so many abandoned vehicles, there shouldn't be just these few zombies..."

"Are you saying there are other zombies nearby?"

Bai Hao and the others immediately became alert.

"We can't rule out this possibility. Perhaps there are many zombies nearby... Of course, they might have already left, so there's no need to be too nervous."

Wang Tao smiled.

"Yeah, but we still need to take safety precautions. I'll have them pay more attention!"

Bai Hao immediately notified the aerial team to expand their scouting range and to report immediately if they spotted any zombies.

Generally, zombies were scarce in the wilderness, but if they encountered them, a large horde of roaming zombies was likely! This was Bai Hao's experience during this time, so even in the wilderness, one couldn't let their guard down.

Rumble—

Several heavy equipment transport vehicles moved to the front of the convoy, and some tanks drove off them. To clear the obstacle formed by the abandoned vehicles, they simply plowed through with the tanks.

A clear road was quickly opened up, allowing the convoy to pass smoothly. They continued for ten kilometers beyond the previous junction without any incidents, which relieved Bai Hao and the others.

Their strength wasn't weak, especially with Wang Tao, the god of war, among them, making them unafraid even of zombies. However, their mission wasn't to kill zombies, but to safely escort these more than 30,000 Survivors to the Zijin Base. The Survivors were essentially their Achilles' heel, restricting their actions. So they prayed not to encounter any zombies on the road and hoped to reach the Zijin Base safely and soundly.

"There's a service area ahead; let's take a break!"

Bai Hao immediately gave the order.

The drivers, who had been driving with full concentration for so long, needed to switch shifts and rest. Especially the aerial team, who needed to come back for a shift change and refuel the aircraft.

This service area had few abandoned vehicles, and naturally, there weren't many zombies.

Wang Tao flew over to search carefully, and after confirming there was no danger, he allowed the convoy to move in.

He wasn't afraid of encountering powerful zombies, but rather the Zombie Tide.

The threat that a Zombie Tide posed was similar to the earlier swarms of Zombie Rats, endless and impossible to kill.

With Wang Tao's strength, he personally wasn't afraid of a Zombie Tide, but he had to take care of so many Survivors. If they really encountered a Zombie Tide, he might not be able to look after the Survivors. Therefore, if faced with a Zombie Tide, it's best to retreat directly, avoiding engagement. But retreating would mean taking a detour, wasting a lot of time, and delaying their time to reach the Zijin Base. It was the early days of the apocalypse, and time was extremely precious; Wang Tao didn't want to waste it taking detours, so he hoped not to encounter a Zombie Tide.

Fortunately, they had been on the road for nearly two days and hadn't encountered a single Zombie Tide—

Wang Tao had just started to feel grateful when the voice of the returning aerial team member suddenly came through Wang Tao's walkie-talkie.

"Mr. Wang! A large number of zombies have appeared! They are at the north intersection—no, at the south intersection as well! Even at the west intersection ahead of our convoy, there are zombies! It seems like we're almost surrounded!"

Upon hearing the somewhat panicked voice on the walkie-talkie, Wang Tao immediately soared into the air, while soothingly saying:

"Don't panic, let me check out the situation first!"

After reaching a certain altitude, Wang Tao indeed saw the zombies that the aerial team mentioned. Seeing the dense numbers, Wang Tao frowned. Whatever he feared seemed to come true—here comes the Zombie Tide!

However, after taking a closer look, Wang Tao felt there was no need to panic.

Since the aerial team discovered it in time, these zombies hadn't really surrounded them yet and were still at a distance, giving them ample time to react. A quick meal and some refueling of the vehicles and planes would be manageable.

As for what to do next...

Wang Tao glanced at the distant Zombie Tide, and after silently calculating, he immediately made a decision—to fight their way through the front!

They were now at an intersection, with zombies in front, to the left, and right, but the road they had arrived on was clear.

If they retreated now, they would avoid this Zombie Tide, but it would mean taking a huge detour. With zombies at both side intersections, they'd have no way to bypass them and would have to backtrack, wasting too much time. Therefore, Wang Tao planned to charge straight ahead.

The number of zombies on both sides was large, but the number in the front was relatively small, similar to the previous Zombie Rat swarm. If Wang Tao led the charge, breaking through wouldn't be a problem.
