Chapter 272: Five Meters Mecha
Inside the shelter.
Lin Yi cast his gaze toward the third child.
He was male.
He stood about three and a half meters tall, with shoulders twice as wide as his brother's.
His entire body was covered with sturdy armor made of dark brown carapace, yet his silhouette was more humanoid than the other two.
He could almost be seen as an ordinary person wearing some sort of exoskeleton.
He had no neck, and it seemed like his head could not turn, although it didn't need to, as his large eyes could rotate 180 degrees.
On his back were six strong black wings.
After the three creatures finished speaking.
They all knelt on one knee and bowed their heads.
After Lin Yi examined them closely, he nodded with satisfaction and smiled.
"I'm glad to meet you too. I often wondered what you would look like, but I never imagined you'd look this human."
They appeared strong, rather than the frail little babies they started as, which was undoubtedly good.
According to Siri, their job was to help manage the six hundred working beetles.
"...What are your names?"
"Father, Mother did not name us. She said you would give us names."
"Stand up, don't be so formal. What kind of names would you like?"
"We don't know... we're still too young."
"How about you be called Alyosha, you Kaya, and you Boria, how's that?"
Lin Yi first pointed to the red brother, then the yellow sister, and finally the brown brother.
"Thank you, Father!"
The children responded in unison and then stood up obediently, looking very excited.
Lin Yi's eyes brightened as he got down to business.
"Siri says you have inherited my skills. Tell me, what abilities do you have?"
The women at the table began whispering among themselves, some dissatisfied, thinking the boss only cared about what the children could do for him...
The red Alyosha stepped forward.
His voice was loud and confident.
"Father. From you, I have inherited: Magma, Extreme Constitution, Wind Speed, Combat Reflex, and Immune."
"Magma? As a standalone skill? I didn't expect that... that's quite impressive... hey!"
"Thank you, Father."
Alyosha said and returned to his spot.
Then Kaya stepped forward.
Her voice was calm and pleasant.
"Father, I inherited from you: Extra Life, Wind Speed, Chameleon, Immune, Wind, Lightning, and the combined skill Storm."
"Extra Life is essentially an extra life! Unfortunately, Storm isn't a standalone skill, but it's not particularly useful in battle... so focus on Lightning and Wind, whichever you prefer more."
"Thank you, Father. I prefer Lightning."
Kaya flashed him a charming smile and then returned to her spot as well.
Finally, it was Boria's turn.
He stepped forward: "I inherited Regeneration, Enhanced Endurance, and Earth Skills from you."
"Regeneration? That's excellent! So you all, and all of your skills, are at the First Level, right?"
"Yes, Father."
"Are you hungry? Sit down and eat something..."
"Father," Lin Yi called to the children, but his words were cut off by an alarm.
It was coming from Tilian Planet!
"Children, I'm sorry... ladies, please take good care of them, Solomon, Louis, follow me!"
After apologizing to the children, Lin Yi hurried back to his home to equip his two subordinates.
Two minutes later.
He appeared in an alley on Tilian and hurried toward the tower.
It was morning here.
The streets were bustling and lively.
The guard at the tower, upon seeing this man in unfamiliar armor, immediately approached.
"Excuse me, are you Lord Lin Yi?"
"I am."
"The chieftain is waiting for you, please follow me quickly."
When Lin Yi entered the tower, he immediately attracted everyone's attention.
The Tilian people here all knew that the chieftain had reached a crucial agreement with this mysterious ally.
Additionally, the entire tribe issued an announcement, the gist of which was that no tribe member should in any way disturb or provoke the mercenaries led by "Lin Yi".
As usual, the elevator was extremely fast.
After exiting the elevator and walking along a long corridor for two minutes, Lin Yi arrived at an armored door.
The door retracted into the wall with a loud clanging sound, and he walked in.
The interior room was very unique.
The ceiling was at least thirty meters high, with hundreds of half-mechanical people busy with various tasks.
Lin Yi saw countless large and strange devices, looking like an automated factory. The entire facility was filled with noise, chatter, and busy scenes.
He was led to the center of the factory.
There were several sealed cages here, holding zombies, or more accurately, half-mechanical people infected by a computer virus.
Several people are experimenting with new weapons, while others are simply manufacturing new cyborgs or at least new cyborg parts.
This visit didn't last long.
He quickly arrived at an area separated by walls, specifically used for testing combat mechas.
Among a group of observers, Lin Yi spotted the man he'd seen before—the bald man with tubes all over his head, obviously the chieftain.
In the testing area, three mechas of varying colors but the same model were currently competing against each other.
The blue one rushed across the finish line.
A few seconds later, the purple one also crossed the line, followed by the red one.
"Oh, our ally!" The bald chieftain shouted enthusiastically upon seeing Lin Yi.
In an instant, everyone stopped what they were doing and stared at Lin Yi.
Lin Yi calmly replied, "It's nice to see you again."
When the chieftain saw Lin Yi's eyes locked onto the mechas, he decided to explain to the guest.
"We're testing your fuel; can you guess which mecha is using your fuel and which one is using ours?"
"I'm not an expert in this area; let me ask my mechanician, he knows nothing about robotic technology, but he has a very eager mind."
"Of course."
With the chieftain's permission, Lin Yi transported Louis to the facility.
This move immediately caused an uproar among the alien scientists present.
To them, teleportation practically seemed like a plot from a science fiction novel.
Their scientists had long concluded that teleporting organisms was impossible!
Louis appeared in full armor, but when he saw Lin Yi's helmet come down, he quickly put down his own helmet.
After introducing Louis to everyone, Lin Yi sent him to communicate with the scientists on Tilian Planet, while he went aside to talk with the chieftain.
He got straight to the point.
"Given we don't have much time, I'll be blunt. My world is currently engulfed in a massive war."
"I understand, so I'll be brief."
The chieftain pulled over two metal chairs.
"We've already tried your fuel and studied it very carefully.
The first mecha that crossed the finish line used your biofuel, but it needs modifications; otherwise, its engine will burn out.
The last one used your bioethanol, which is decent but not suitable for mechas.
However, for ordinary vehicles, it would be quite a good choice.
We also greatly enjoy your food and water. But what we need most is fuel—the more, the better. It almost solves all our problems!"
"Hmm... we haven't reached that scale of fuel production, so I'm not sure what our production capacity is."
Lin Yi pondered for a while.
The process of obtaining biofuel is extremely... intricate, but relatively simple, requiring only biomass and a bioreactor.
They have an abundance of biomass, but bioreactors are costly.
However, biomass is a potentially infinite resource, as the Sea of Space-Time contains countless fragments teeming with undead creatures.
"In theory, I could produce nearly unlimited fuel, but I need time, manpower, and investment."
"I can provide help in terms of manpower and investment, but we might need it on short notice."
"Here's the plan, I'll discuss with my team to see how much fuel we can produce and how fast we can increase production."
"Fantastic! As a gesture of goodwill, I'll send you one of our best mechas in advance; please follow me."
The chieftain slyly smiled, leading the way.
They arrived at an area separated by walls, with a towering five-meter-high giant mecha standing in the middle.
Its shape was humanoid, strong and powerful, fully armored, and extremely intimidating.
When Lin Yi and Louis saw this technological marvel, their eyes widened.
This was exactly the reaction the chieftain was hoping for.
He beamed with a bright smile, showcasing this masterpiece of modern mechanics.
"This is Sentinel Mecha No. 33, our pride and treasure—our most powerful mecha.
We don't have many of these mechas, and they're very expensive, so I can only send you one.
The other mechas will... not be as powerful, but I believe you'll be satisfied with them too."
"Can I try it?"
"Sure, but I need to ask you a few questions.
Do you have computing performance attributes? It determines one's capability to operate vehicles.
But you're human, so... you probably don't have this attribute, do you?"
Faced with the chieftain's question, Lin Yi could only shake his head.
He didn't quite understand what the other party was talking about but could roughly guess.
These cyborgs might require their internal mechanical systems to drive mechas.
Sure enough, the chieftain started explaining.
"We usually connect directly to the mechas, but the system has another option.
If the driver's computing performance isn't enough, the mecha's built-in AI will provide assistance.
Of course, the driver's efficiency will decrease, and some input delay will be introduced.
However, we don't use AI because mutants can easily hack into it, crippling our mechas.
But if I understand correctly, your infectees can't make virus software."
"I understand what you mean, and I think this should be feasible for us."
Lin Yi didn't like the problem of input delay.
But... hey, having it is better than nothing.
He suddenly thought of an important question.
"You said you make these mechas yourselves, but this one is still system equipment... so... do you use skills to make them?"
