Apocalypse: Hero of Potato Fields

Chapter 262: Mechanical Zombie

On the Tilian Planet Fragment.

Amidst the wasteland.

In the morning, the weather was cloudy, the wind whipped up the sand, greatly reducing visibility.

The scout reported, "Boss! We have three hours left to reach the destination."

"Got it. Those who want to sleep can sleep. I'll stand guard with someone else."

Lin Yi said, walking up a small hill.

He could see the outlines of buildings in the distance. This place had a great view; no one could approach them unnoticed.

The soldiers quickly set up camp.

Two hours passed swiftly. The system users recovered their physical strength quickly, sweeping away some fatigue.

The team was approaching a inhabited area, which motivated soldiers to move forward faster, accelerating their pace.

"What do you think these zombies look like here?"

"I bet they look human. You saw that rusty old plane, right?"

"Who knows!"

The soldiers in the team chatted excitedly.

Their strong power and endurance made them easily ignore the difficult terrain.

Suddenly, a soldier shouted, raising his gun: "Stop! I heard something."

"I hear it now too…"

Everyone put down their backpacks, ready for battle, but no one could see where the sound was coming from, making the atmosphere tense.

Moreover, the scanner didn't show anything.

Suddenly, a soldier was dragged into the sand, leaving only two hands exposed. He shouted: "Help me!"

"Open fire, but don't hit him!"

Lin Yi quickly shot at the sand below the soldier in a round of firing.

The soldier was almost completely engulfed by the sand; after a moment, he finally struggled out.

"It let go of me!"

"Where is it?"

"Under the sand!"

"Move!" Lin Yi's voice was icy.

The team continued their journey.

Rest and halt had become a thing of the past.

No one wanted to spend the night in a desert that could drag people into the sand in the blink of an eye.

After the sun set, they finally reached their destination.

This was a long-abandoned industrial complex.

Half-buried in sand but very secure.

However, there were no zombies, nor any survivors...

But they discovered that the locals were definitely humanoid creatures and belonged to the same type of species as them.

This was obvious from the doors, furniture, and constructions.

The industrial complex was large but seemed to have been looted; everything had been ruthlessly dismantled and removed.

Judging by Lin Yi, this industrial complex was almost completely automated.

It had twenty workstations and two bedrooms, but these bedrooms were peculiar.

The beds were made of metal, with some additional, unknown devices built into them.

After searching the complex, the team left with more questions.

Fourth Day.

A dust storm raged through the night.

And continued during the day.

Wind Mage Joe, responsible for managing supplies, was a bit worried: "Boss… our food is running out."

"Reduce consumption by half and speed up the progress."

The dust storm only stopped that night, but no one particularly wanted to cross the desert at night…

Fifth Day.

The sky was clear.

Once the sun came up, the team set off.

Everyone moved quickly, eager to leave this terribly unfavorable planet.

Their food was running low too…

Sixth Day.

The team's camp was attacked by underground creatures, no one was injured, but Piero, who was dragged underground, was scared to death.

Before the sun rose, the team began heading north again, eager to leave the dangerous area.

"Boss! A city!"

The scout reported excitedly from a nearby sand dune.

The soldiers almost burst into tears with joy.

There was indeed a city in the distance, and it was huge!

Of course, it had become a ruin, covered in sand, yet still...

"Rest for twenty minutes, then move on. We might have to fight. This place could be full of zombies, or the survivors might be hostile."

Lin Yi was happy to finally see Yue Ming.

After resting, the team moved forward.

As they approached their destination, they heard a rumbling sound and rushed towards the direction the sound came from.

"Boss! I see zombies, humanoid zombies! And they are being led by… a robot? A very big robot!"

The scout, possessing Third Level Hawkeye Skills, was panting heavily, but due to the swirling dust, it was hard to see clearly what was happening.

But he could clearly see a metal giant surrounded by mechanical zombies!

"I knew we'd need that gun."

Lin Yi laughed, leading his team into the city.

Most buildings had become ruins.

But the closer they got to the city center, the more complete the buildings became, and the louder the noise.

The soldiers shouted ecstatically: "I've found the target! The scanner detected zombies, genuine zombies!"

"Hold steady, Catwomen, your Piero Daddy is coming home!" The Fire Mage was excited too.

...

At this moment, not far ahead.

A wasteland, a city of destruction swallowed by sand, two well-equipped robots were running on the street, but they looked severely damaged.

A voice came from the body of a yellow robot four feet tall: "Run, Lira! Faster!"

"My fuel is running out... I can't run anymore! Forgive me... at least you can survive..."

A female voice came from another white robot, which had suffered severe damage, dark blue liquid flowing from its body.

Smoke was rising from its back, and something was rattling inside its body.

"Don't be foolish! We're almost at the hiding spot! Damn... they're already here! Hide quickly!"

In front of them, the wall of an abandoned building collapsed, and then, a humanoid mechanical creature emerged from the massive hole.

They looked human, but the large wounds devoid of internal organs revealed their true mechanical nature.

Underneath their artificial skin lay metal and wires. Were they robots?

No, they were cyborg zombies!

Over twenty cyborg zombies roared, charging at the two giant robots like a swarm of piranhas.

"I will fight too!" the white robot shouted.

"Don't be stupid! You need to hide! Don't use up your last bit of energy!" the yellow robot yelled, then drew a sword and charged at the enemy.

Its three-meter chainsaw blade repeatedly sliced the enemies into pieces.

Metal parts flew everywhere, along with the dark blue liquid and various bionic organs, though some seemed to be real organs.

[Alert!]

Infection attempt detected!

Antivirus program used.

Attack repelled.

Temporary shield activated...

"You bastards—no!"

Suddenly, an agile, two-meter-tall cyborg zombie jumped out from behind the other cyborg zombies.

It leaped into the air and thrust down, plunging its blade into the yellow body of the giant robot.

Dozens of red wires tangled around the machine's damaged armor, trying to connect to the machine's system.

"Zack!" the white robot shouted, then thrust its short sword into the core area near the enemy cyborg zombie's neck.

"Thanks!" Zack pushed the remains of the robot aside and pulled out a massive weapon from its back.

"Die!"

The weapon fired metallic gears, tearing through over thirty enemy cyborg zombies.

But the clip was almost instantly emptied.

The cyborg zombies hissed.

Lira's powered-down mecha lay motionless.

Before more enemies arrived, Zack drew a light beam blade and quickly sliced open the mecha's body.

"Let's go! We just made a lot of noise, more infected enemies will be here soon."

"Okay..." a woman's voice came from the helmet's speaker.

The woman grabbed his hand, letting him pull her out of the wrecked mecha.

They jumped over the wrecked mechas and ran along the street, but before long, pursuers appeared...

"A mutant!"

The woman gasped as she saw a terrifying machine appear at the corner in front of them.

The machine was covered with metal parts, which were strangely secured to its body.

"Run! You head to the hiding spot, I'll hold it off!" The man took a last look at his beloved and then exposed the light beam blade, charging at the enemy.

But...

Suddenly!

A massive energy pulse appeared, instantly destroying the mechanical mutant.

And the infected enemies nearby were also eliminated by dozens of laser beams.

Lin Yi's eyes widened: "What the hell?! Where are my experience points?!"

[You have killed a Second Level mutant...]

[Error!]

[You have killed a Second Level mutant...]

[Error!]

[Warning! You have been system locked!]

"What the hell is going on here?!"

Not only Lin Yi, but other soldiers also received the same message—they all gained no experience points and were system locked!

"What's wrong, boss?"

"We're screwed, that's what! Damn it! Never trust women or snakes!"

"Are we... going to starve?" Piero asked in shock.

Lin Yi slapped his forehead: "Quick, check for rewards. It's our only hope now..."

"Here, boss, there are rewards and coins! One blue egg and two white eggs!"

"The eggshells are edible."

"Boss! There are two more survivors here!"

"Oh?"

Hearing this, Lin Yi looked over to a short distance away.

The man held an energy blade, and the woman stood behind him. They did not move, just watched the people who silently saved them.

After a moment, the man stepped forward.

"Thank you for saving us..."

"Can someone turn on the translator?"

"I've got it on," Joe immediately responded, "He said thank you for saving them."

"Then tell him, in return, we'd like some information."

"Yes, boss!" Joe's voice came through the speaker on his helmet translating.

"No need to thank us, but in return, if you can give us some information, we'd appreciate it."

"Of course, no problem! But... we might not have any valuable information."

Suddenly, a soldier standing by on alert, holding a scanner, reported to Lin Yi.

"Boss, twelve enemies to the east!"

"Take them out." Lin Yi waved his hand, and the team swiftly moved east.

But these enemies were just ordinary zombies, defeated with a few punches and kicks.

A soldier collecting coins blankly murmured to Lin Yi.

"Boss... those zombies, they..."

"What about them?"

"They are robots!"

"Are you kidding? Robot zombies?!"
