Apocalypse: After Being Reborn, I Stocked Up on All Supplies

Chapter 24: Chapter 24 'Illegal Intrusion!

Jiang Yan had just taken a simple folding stool out of the Space to sit down when the trailer and installation workers delivering the mobile Apple Cabin arrived.

Along with them came the opposing company's boss, and several cleaning ladies in uniform, holding various cleaning equipment.

After all, this was her private order worth over six million, and considering today's unusual weather, the boss decided to come and personally oversee the assembly and cleaning.

Furthermore, his main purpose was to meet Jiang Yan, this major client, hoping to maintain a good relationship for long-term cooperation.

Unfortunately, there would be no future.

The boss, named Liu Lei, was a trendy young man in his late twenties.

He was a bit startled upon seeing Jiang Yan fully geared up.

Another young man, who seemed to be his assistant, commanded others to unload several boxes of Electrolyte Water for the workers to drink and asked the cleaning ladies to disperse mosquito repellent throughout the warehouse, after which he shouted:

"The weather is hot, and it's tough, but let's hurry the installation and testing so we can finish sooner, get inspected sooner, receive bonuses sooner, and all get home sooner!"

The workers, seeing they not only got free neck fans but also bonuses today, momentarily ignored the heat and instantly found their enthusiasm.

Liu Lei, as the boss, was also a man attentive to details.

He twisted open a bottle of Electrolyte Water that had been chilled in a small car fridge before handing it to Jiang Yan.

"Miss Jiang, though you're wearing insulation clothes, it's extremely hot today, and you're particularly susceptible to heatstroke. Please have some."

He was an extreme sports enthusiast on normal days and had some knowledge about professional clothing, readily recognizing the equipment Jiang Yan was wearing.

Jiang Yan said, "Thank you," and accepted it.

"By the way, Miss Jiang, are you sure you want to install this mobile Apple Cabin inside this warehouse?" Liu Lei asked, glancing at the warehouse.

The warehouse was large and spacious, with a cluster of water faucets nearby.

In such scorching weather, the temperature inside was slightly cooler than outside by a degree or two.

But to his mind, it was clearly unrealistic for people to live here.

There were weeds all around the warehouse exterior, which at night, were particularly prone to attract mosquitoes.

If it attracted those giant Blood Mosquitoes, her small physique would hardly be enough for a pre-dinner snack for them.

Additionally, such a high-end, luxurious mobile Apple Cabin would theoretically be better suited for a lakeside golf lawn.

Placing it inside here was indeed a bit incongruous.

Also, the warehouse lacked sunlight, making solar panels a superfluous addition akin to foolishly taking off pants to fart.

Though it was marketed with the gimmick of mobility, the Apple Cabin was too large in bulk.

Once installed, it might as well be fixed in place.

Unless one decided to do a secondary dismantling.

Jiang Yan merely responded with a noncommittal "hmm," not elaborating further.

Liu Lei didn't press further.

As a businessman, he was a person with a keen sense of boundaries.

And though he was a professional, he only had the right to advise; all decisions rested with the client.

Often times, it was just about getting the job done.

Meanwhile, workers, assisted by two crane machines, turned red-faced from the effort as they unloaded and began assembling.

Liu Lei chatted briefly with Jiang Yan, then personally went up to oversee and command the operation, leaving Jiang Yan by herself comfortably.

"BEEP!! Unauthorized intruder detected at the front door!!!"

Jiang Yan had just finished a bottle of Electrolyte Water and was about to check the news when the alarm from the smart home app on her phone went off.

She had particularly paid extra to integrate some black technology into this smart home system.

Beyond everyday functions like turning on the TV, lights, and curtains, it was linked with the home surveillance system, the smoke detectors at the door, and the sensors on the exterior doors and windows.

Any stranger lingering near the front door for over three minutes, making physical contact with the door, would be declared an unauthorized intruder by the system.

And she could remotely control the anti-intrusion measures directly from her phone or tablet to electrocute the system-determined intruder with anything from low-voltage 110V to ultrahigh-voltage 500V, and control the dispensing of water and pepper spray.

The sprinkler heads for the water and pepper spray were covertly installed beyond the first door, typically hard for anyone to tamper with.

Jiang Yan had a good guess about who the visitors might be.

Picking up her phone, she opened the client, and the high-definition image outside the door appeared in her view.

As she expected, He Chunmei and Zhou Guangfu were at her front door.

But besides them, there was also a seven or eight-year-old boy and a three or four-year-old girl.

Both children looked feverish and dazed, appearing very ill.

They each held a small cartoon plastic stool.

Next to Zhou Guangfu stood two elderly men, thin-statured, with solemn expressions and graying hair, each holding a cane.

By their looks, they were likely Zhou Guangfu's parents.

The corridor of the compound was already narrow, and the family of six crowded the front of Jiang Yan's house entirely.

He Chunmei ran her fingers through her hair and instructed her children:

"Beibei and Baobao, you two are responsible for sitting in front of this lady's house this morning. If she opens the door, tell her it's too hot and ask if you can come in to cool down. If she refuses, go ahead and grab her legs or pull at her arms, understood?"

The little boy pursed his lips without speaking, his eyes flickered to the small iron hammer in his mother's hand before he hung his head low.

It was the little girl, in a milky voice, who responded, "Got it, Mommy."

"This is just begging at our door! I, Zhou Shangyou, have lived an upright life, and I can't afford to lose this face. I'd rather die of heat! Wife, let's go home!" The elder said after hearing this, banging his cane firmly on the ground and turning to leave with his wife Jiang Lifeng.

His daughter-in-law had said that their new neighbor had air conditioning and wanted to bring them over to cool off for a while, but it turned out to be a trick to lure them over.

Jiang Lifeng's expression turned awkward for a moment; looking at her grandchildren burning with a high fever, she stayed put.

"Dad, what are you saying?!

Do you know what temperature the weather report predicted for midday today?

47 degrees!!!

Do you know, Guangfu contacted the air conditioning service this morning to install one, and the orders are backed up for three months!

Three months, at this rate with the temperature and Blood Mosquitoes, people will be roasted into mummies!

In our building, the only person with air conditioning living alone is her!

Beibei and Baobao were nauseous and throwing up all last night, and now they're starting to get fevers. If they get heatstroke, their lives will be ruined!

In extraordinary times, extraordinary measures are necessary. Why should she refuse to help and contribute even a little bit?

Besides, compared to life, what are dignity and face worth?!

Yes, you're a man of culture! You're above this! You have your pride! You're almost buried, and you're not afraid of dying!

But you must consider Baobao and Beibei!!"
