Chapter 7: Book of prophecy

Returning to his office Alfie dropped his bag and slumped onto his chair.

He took a deep breath before rummaging into his simple desk and pulling out a small handbook.

The outside cover read the words 'Book of prophecy written by the first counselor'.

The book was part of a set Alfie had been working on, something very much akin to an inheritance.

Inside the book, Alfie had written in great detail the major myths of Greek mythology he had read from his past life.

There were stories that ranged from Heroes such as Heracles and Perseus to tragic characters like Orpheus as well as myths involving the major Greek pantheon.

Those entries, however, were for the future generation to deal with. Alfie focused on his first entry, the myth of Prometheus.

From Alfie's memory, the myth revolved around Prometheus's disobedience of Zeus and his gift of fire towards humanity.

The aftermath of his disobedience resulted in him being chained onto a rock whilst an eagle peaked eternally at his immortal liver.

Prometheus's punishment was the issue that had been weighing on Alfie's mind.

Would Zeus stop only at punishing Prometheus? While he hoped the answer would be yes, he couldn't shake the feeling that it wouldn't be.

Even the best-case scenario leads to Pronoe being a godless city, left to its own whims in a land filled with mythical beasts.

Once Alfie finished recollecting his info he pulled out a book from his bag. Inside detailed any plan, idea, or thought he had about the potential fall of Pronoe.

The book held ideas of prototype guns to basic biological warfare.

It even held ideas of asking for help from banished deities, although that one was still a stretch.

After thinking and expanding on ideas for a while, Alfie put both books into his bag.

Leisure was coming to an end and the rest of the city's administration would be returning.

For Alfie it was the time to continue implementing his ideas, his brainstorming would have to be halted till the workday finished.

It was only late into the night that Alfie stopped himself from his second brainstorming session of the day.

Although to him it was still quite early, he had promised Lucia that they would train together near the early morning.

Looking outside his window the near full moon illuminated most of Alfie's office.

It gave a silent eerie vibe as if he was being watched. Shuddering at the thought, Alfie quickly grabbed his bag and left his office to go back to the temple.

As the clouds shadowed the moon, a figure entered the counselor's office. Walking towards the grand desk in the back of the room, she pulled out a leather book.

Skimming the contents, her face revealed no hint of emotion constantly keeping its expressionless demeanor.

Occasionally she would take out a piece of string, looking back and forth between it and the book.

Not before long, she placed the book back in its original location before vanishing from the room.

Reappearing a few dozen miles away she stood next to two near-identical copies of herself. They exchanged a few words before the two disappeared from the living realm.

Only one remained, holding a pair of scissors in her hand while biding her time.

There were a few dozen knocks on Alfie's door before it was forcefully opened.

Even with all the clamoring noise Alfie lay there on his bed sound asleep. I

t was only with a flick to his forehead that he began to awaken to his senses.

Opening his weary eyes, he saw Lucia leaning on the wall opposing his bed.

Glancing at the rising sun, from the window in his room he groaned. God knows how many hours he had slept.

"I'll be ready in a little jus gimme some time," Alfie said while rubbing his eyes.

"There's some fruit in the dining area, meet me outside when you're up." She said before leaving

"On it," Alfie replied sleepily.

While waiting for Alfie to get ready, Lucia stepped outside and leaned against the temple's walls.

She fidgeted with her small bronze necklace, it had been a gift from Alfie a long time ago. It was rather botched, but it had apparently been his first success.

She remembered how shaky his burnt hands had been when he tied it around her neck.

Back then it had even caused a few rumors to spread around, and it even eventually led to others copying him.

Though their intentions were vastly different from his gesture.

Hearing footsteps approach the door, she tucked her necklace back.

The door soon creaked open as Alfie stepped out in a simple brown tunic and shorts. His black hair was styled to look like a leaf cut.

"5 laps around the village let's go," Lucia said as soon as Alfie exited.

"Lemme just get my stretches in first," Alfie responded before doing some dynamic stretches.

Lucia obliged, her momentary mislapse caused her to frown.

A few minutes later Alfie stood ready to begin his training day.

"Ready?" Lucia questioned

"Yup." Alfie nodded

With a countdown, the two of them raced off.
