Another World Reincarnation Chronicle

Chapter 207

Numerous slashes and long-range bombardment spells pounded against the Mana Barrier protecting my body. The more I plunged into the enemies, the faster my internal mana diminished, and wounds began to accumulate all over my body.

“Hah!”

The broken mana circle creaked and began to rotate. The mana operation was far from normal, causing the spell casting time to drag on excessively.

Wham-!

With all my might, I swung my sword and cleaved through the resurrected undead. At the same time, the activated healing magic rapidly mended the wounds etched across my body.

A repetitive war of attrition. Unlike the weary humans, the undead that had returned from death showed no signs of fatigue.

Of course, the mana of the demons who resurrected those undead was not infinite. As time passed, I could feel the numbers of the incoming undead steadily diminishing, albeit very slightly.

The high-ranking demons did not rashly step forward, despite the overwhelming horde of undead they had summoned. They simply couldn’t afford to.

The immense mana of the Mage Tower’s leadership mixed with that of the high-ranking demons, vibrating the atmosphere. However, no spells were cast. They were cautiously observing each other, seeking an opening in their opponent.

A delicate balance was being maintained. Yet, that precarious scale was tilting towards the allied forces due to the arrival of the elves.

[Nuooohhhh!]

The enormous winter whale, Raben, was a tremendous strategic weapon in and of itself. The massive swing of its tail rocked the entire island and even stirred up storms beyond the shore.

Of course, being large meant it was also an easy target for attacks. The undead and lesser demons that had previously focused on humans began to redirect their onslaught toward Raben.

It was said that elves do not forget favors. The elves who had lost their homes remembered Raben’s kindness in carrying them on its back.

Kwaaah-!

A colossal storm swept over Raben, brought forth by the cold winter winds. The massive tempest summoned by the wind spirits became Raben’s armor, grinding everything that approached into nothingness.

It was around this time that the momentum began to shift in favor of the allied forces. At the moment I sensed something unusual in the mana flow swirling over the battlefield, one of the high-ranking demons started to ascend into the sky.

Seeing the direction it was flying and where its gaze was fixated, it seemed that Raben, which was soaring through the air smashing the undead army, was quite the annoyance.

Due to the dark fur covering its body, Raben’s legs were not visible. Its oddly twisted arms squirmed like tentacles rather than resembling arms at all.

The birth of demons begins with the death of creatures. However, I had never seen anything like that creature, even after traversing the world myself.

The demon, seeking to cast a powerful spell toward Raben, spread its magic book and gathered mana.

Gooouuu-!

The vibrating atmosphere from the malevolent mana was anything but ordinary. If that demon’s magic were to activate as it was, Raben would suffer serious harm.

But there was no need to worry. The fact that one of the demons pressing the leadership of the Mage Tower had turned its gaze toward Raben meant that the magician it had been pressuring was now free.

As proof, a massive energy that had been felt in the location where the Mage Tower’s leadership had gathered vanished in an instant.

A hazy afterimage of mana scattered over the spot where the magician had disappeared. It wasn’t space-time transfer magic but a high-speed movement using extreme physical enhancement.

Among the mages affiliated with the Mage Tower, there was only one person who could move in such a way. The Vice Tower Master of Twilight. Leo of the Battle Mage faction had made his move.

With Raben joining the fray, I finally had the leisure to survey the battlefield. I circled outward with the Nightmare while looking up at the sky.

Leo was flying through the air using high-speed movement. As I concentrated mana to enhance my eyesight, I realized how he was moving.

As the blue mana gathered beneath Leo’s feet, it shattered immediately.

An application of the protective magic Mana Barrier. The basic principle was the same as the method the Nightmare used to gallop through the sky.

The platforms he created in mid-air shattered repeatedly, sending the blue mana scattering beautifully. However, Leo’s momentum as he kicked off those platforms resembled that of a cannonball.

Bang-!

In fact, Leo’s fist created an explosive sound like a cannon. As Leo’s extended fist slammed into the furry demon, a huge burst of mana erupted, distorting the demon’s body. It appeared as though a thin slab of metal had been forcefully hammered.

That was the signal. The mighty demons that had been dispersing their great momentum began to step forward one by one, and the leaders of the Mage Tower, who had been engaged in a mental standoff with them, also cast spells and leaped onto the battlefield.

Kwaang-!

As a massive explosion erupted amidst the armies of the allied forces and the undead, the ground flipped over.

“This…!”

I was well aware that in my current state, I could not join that battle. Gripping the reins of the Nightmare, I hastily retreated.

Whoooom-!

The mana unleashed by the high-ranking demons and the leadership of the Mage Tower began to bend space. Countless mysteries that shouldn’t have existed manifested in this world, imbued with mana.

Columns of fire erupted, showering the area with ice, while lightning struck down with the wind. The screams of the undead erupted from the magic books, shaking the battlefield, and white bones intertwined to form a massive monster.

With the intervention of these absolute beings wielding mana, the regular soldiers’ battles fell into a lull. It became impossible to approach due to the downpour of lightning and burning orbs coming from all directions.

The undead army faced the same barrier to their approach. The demons guiding them seemed to lack the bandwidth to pay any attention to the movements of the undead, resulting in a clear slowdown in the army’s advance.

They must have gathered all the mana that had been allocated to move the undead to cast spells.

As numerous spells were cast, they all fell into decay at once. The chaotic mana burst forth and created immense repulsion.

In the span of a second, dozens of exchanges took place. The wizards and demons who attacked one another spilled dark, dead blood.

[Nuooohhhh!]

Raben was not idle either. While it was grinding through the undead army, it swung its tail vigorously, striking the demon facing Haiven.

The demon struck directly by the enormous tail flew thousands of meters in the blink of an eye, devastating the beautiful forest.

Overall, the situation seemed to be in our favor. Yet, an unknown sense of unease would not dissipate. The Nightmare, too, seemed to sense my apprehension, shaking its head back and forth in distress.

Ploosh-

“It’s okay.”

I yanked the reins of the Nightmare and dashed towards the direction of the Gold Return Ship. I had nothing I could do right now, and I had to focus on recovering my body.

“Hah!”

A handful of undead that had separated from the horde barred my way, but they couldn’t stop me. I brandished the golden sword in my hand and advanced rapidly.

The golden armored Nightmare didn’t flinch at the blades flying towards it. It knew that such attacks couldn’t possibly pierce its armor.

It was the moment I got close to the Gold Return Ship. The tightly shut door began to melt away, creating just enough of a gap for me and the Nightmare to squeeze through.

The Nightmare slipped inside as if it were returning home.

Bang-!

As soon as I entered the airship, it shut the entrance behind me. This airship, made from the body of a dragon, was incredibly special in its defense. It was a place that could never be breached by lesser demons or typical undead attacks.

“Phew…”

In the center of the airship, the Core of Mana created from the Dragon’s Egg radiated a massive amount of mana and presence, exactly as it had before.

I jumped off the Nightmare’s back and approached the core, placing my hands on it. Immediately, I began to absorb the mana.

As the out-of-order mana circle started to hold dragon mana, it began to regain its form. The two circles nestled in my heart also derived from the mana of the dragon, making it a possible change.

The more I absorbed the mana from the Dragon’s Egg, the more changes emerged in my body. My nails grew tougher, and the tail extending below my buttocks became plumper.

The once-sharp fangs elongated, turning into razor-sharp blades.

I frowned and looked down at my hands. The dragon scales that should have covered the back of my hands had already grown up to my elbows.

While I was focused on recovering my physical form, I noticed the forest outside the airship beginning to wither away, with green leaves changing into brown and falling.

The warm spring seemed to pass, as though autumn had arrived. This was not a phenomenon brought about by magic.

The once vibrant forest rapidly transformed. Not just the trees, but even the grass growing on the ground began to wither swiftly.

As the air grew hotter, it became dry. It felt as if I had fallen right into the middle of a desert.

The moment I realized this fact, a colossal pillar of fire surged up from a distant location.

Kwaaah-!

The heat emanating from that fire pillar was so intense that the entire forest began to catch fire.

“Insane…”

I gritted my teeth as I gazed upon the soaring fire pillar. A massive shadow revealed itself from within, unfurling its wings.

Covering the sky, those wings were cloaked in a crimson veil and encrusted with scales that seemed to be ablaze.
