Chapter 10: Chapter 10: A Powerful Lesson

I rushed towards Ryuma and he caught my sword in a clash of our blades. Every one of my strikes were constantly being parried by him, eventually after another exchange we broke apart and I got some distance from him.

"Yohohoho, you're pretty strong. Probably even stronger than I am in my current state, but no matter how much stronger you are an amateur like you will never beat me in a contest of swordsmanship." Ryuma said. He had a point, I was making absolutely no progress in getting past his defense. Although I'd gone through many years of training, I'd never actually had any formal swordsmanship instruction. So far I had been getting by solely by the brute strength of my sword's abilities.

Therefore, I knew I was totally outmatched in terms of skill. That's exactly what I was hoping for, maybe by watching his sword skills I could learn something. With each clash of our swords I carefully observed each of his movements and focused on refining my sword technique.

"Roar! Zabimaru!" I tried to use Zabimaru's unique abilities to make an opening, but even the whip-like blade of Zabimaru was easily parried by him. He then finally went on the offensive.

"Three Pace Hum Notch Slash." Ryuma then walked three paces and sheathed his sword and I was slashed by his blade. Luckily I'd done enough to avoid any fatal damage.

"That's it! Can you show me that just one more time?" I asked.

Ryuma had a confused look, at least I think he was confused, I can't be sure because his decayed zombie face didn't have much expression. Still he obliged and attacked again with the same technique. This time I'd taken a bit more damage and I noticed that a wheel had appeared above my head and turned.

"Oh yeah I forgot I had that adaptation ability! I guess I've just adapted the Ryuma's slashes. Well that's lucky, but what I was really going for was to learn that technique." I thought. "Let's see how this goes."

"30 Notch Drumming Slash" I said as I unwrapped Samehada. As I rewrapped Samehada, Ryuma received several jagged gashes from my attack.

I knew I couldn't pull off the technique the same way given the drastically different compositions of our swords so I adapted it a bit to work with my sword.

"That's impressive, you not only learned the technique after seeing it just twice, but you also adapted it to make your own technique. You've got a talent for swordsmanship after all. You've been improving as our fight has gone on." Ryuma said.

"Well, I have always been the type of guy who learns best through actual experience." I responded.

He then slashed at me again and his sword landed squarely on my chest. However, now that I'd adapted to his slashes, his sword couldn't do any damage to me. I then grabbed his blade and said, "Thank you for the lesson, now I hope you can rest in peace. Bankai! Hihio Zabimaru!!!!!!!!" I struck him with Zabimaru and he crashed through the walls while in the jaw of Zabimaru. After we made it outside of the mansion I crashed Zabimaru into the sea outside. The sea water would dispel the ability and free both Brook's shadow and Ryuma's body.

I was left standing with his legendary sword Shinsui. It was a magnificent weapon, but it was too much for me to handle at the moment, eventually I'd probably need to take it back to Wano. But there would be time to worry about that later, I needed to meet back up with the others. In the meantime, the fight against Ryuma had been helpful, just as I'd hoped. I'd improved my swordsmanship, although just slightly. And as an added bonus I'd used my adaptation ability for the first time.

While I had been fighting Ryuma, Yuma had been fighting against Hogback and the rest of the General Zombies. Individually he was able to over power each of the zombies but the fact that he didn't have a way to take out the zombies meant that they would just keep getting up no matter how many times he'd knock them down. This, added to his number disadvantage, led to Yuma eventually being covered in wounds.

"Crap! If only I had some salt to use on those zombies, without them here I could take out that mad scientist guy without breaking a sweat. Wait a minute! That's it!" Suddenly Yuma started running around the room. He wasn't just running to dodge the enemy's strikes, he was full on sprinting around the zombies, darting back and forth.

"Fosfosfos! Have you gone crazy out of fear for my creations? Well I suppose I can't blame you for that!" Hogback said laughing.

Then suddenly Yuma stopped running and punched one of the zombies and sent it flying. This time it didn't get up, but the shadow was released out of its body.

"Hah? How did you do that?"

"Hehe, you're a doctor aren't you? Then you should get it." Yuma said as he was breathing heavily and he was drenched in sweat.

"Ahh! The sweat!" The doctor said as he realized what Yuma had done. Human sweat also secretes salt. This gave Yuma a way to fight the Zombies. With that he launched a counter attack and made short work of the remaining zombies and Hogback himself. After his fight he was covered in wounds and exhausted, but he had won

Meanwhile, Jack was about to have a fight of his own.
