Angel from Hell: When an angel falls into hell

Chapter 14: Secrets in the Night

The clock had long passed midnight, and the Russian city, cloaked in winter's chill, seemed to slumber under a blanket of thick fog. The streets were deserted except for the amber glow of streetlights illuminating cobblestone paths. In the middle of the park stood a massive tree, its branches swaying gently in the biting wind.

Irina walked alone through this oppressive silence, the faint sound of her footsteps on the gravel echoing like whispers. She wore a long coat and a thick scarf wrapped snugly around her neck, but the cold had already seeped into her bones. Yet it wasn't the chill alone that made her hands tremble; there was something else—something deeper—that struck the chords of her soul.

Irina (thinking): Why am I here? Why did I come? He always calls, and I... I can't resist. This man… He makes me feel like I'm someone else. Like I'm living a strange dream.

The message she had received from Dmitri was simple yet veiled in his usual enigma:

"Meet the shadows in the park at one. I'll be waiting."

Dmitri had a way of choosing his words. He didn't plead or request—he commanded, as if his words were immutable laws.

The path to the park seemed endless. The twisted trees, their gnarled trunks intertwining like conspirators, seemed to reach out to hold her back. The air was heavy with the scent of winter—a mix of melting snow and damp cold.

She paused for a moment, glancing around, feeling the unmistakable weight of being watched. But when she turned, there was only darkness.

Irina (thinking): Sometimes, it feels like the shadows themselves are alive. Watching me… or chasing me.

Yet, she continued walking. Turning back wasn't an option now. Something deep inside urged her forward, whispering that this encounter with Dmitri would be unlike any other.

When she finally reached the park, the place seemed to exist outside of time. Dim light filtered through the branches, and the fog cloaked everything like a veil concealing hidden truths.

Then she heard it—his voice, emanating from nowhere and everywhere at once. It pierced through the stillness like a haunting melody.

Dmitri (from the shadows): "I love you, I love you, I love you...

You are my angel, sent from distant heavens..."

She spun around toward the sound, but there was no one. It wasn't clear if the voice came from a specific place or if it resonated within her.

Irina (in a trembling voice): "Dmitri... where are you?"

Suddenly, he emerged from the shadows, as if they had taken form to become him. Dressed in his usual black coat, his eyes glinted in the faint light. His gaze was as piercing as ever—intense, unreadable, and filled with an unfathomable depth.

He approached her slowly, his movements deliberate yet unhesitant. When he stopped in front of her, the space between them felt stifling, as if it wasn't enough for her to breathe freely.

Dmitri (whispering): "Why are you late?"

Irina (weakly): "I'm not late… The path was long."

He smiled faintly, though it wasn't a comforting gesture. It was the kind of smile that made her wonder what he was truly thinking.

Dmitri (calmly): "But I knew you would come. You can't resist me."

She felt trapped, ensnared by his presence and the shadows of the park. She knew he was right—resisting him was impossible, no matter how much she might wish otherwise. But deep inside, an inexplicable unease stirred, as if she were teetering on the edge of a chasm.

Irina (thinking): This man… He's more than human. He's like a magnet, pulling me toward him against my will. But he's also like fire... If I get too close, I'll burn.

He reached out, brushing her cheek with a gentle touch. His fingers were cold, yet they ignited something deep within her.

Dmitri (in a deep voice): "Irina, you know we're not like others. There's something between us—something no one else can understand."

Irina (softly): "But I'm afraid, Dmitri. This… This isn't normal."

Dmitri (with a cryptic smile): "Fear is part of love. And darkness makes the light all the more beautiful."

He stepped closer until their faces were mere inches apart. She could feel his breath on her skin, the scent of his cologne enveloping her senses.

Dmitri (whispering): "I love you, I love you, I love you… I love you, I love you, I love you…"

His words echoed in her ears like a haunting refrain, embedding themselves in her heart. She felt herself surrendering to his voice, to his presence.

Irina (thinking): Can love truly be like this? Both enchanting and terrifying at once?

Suddenly, Dmitri withdrew as swiftly as he had appeared. He stepped back, his gaze lingering on her for a long moment before he turned and vanished into the night.

Irina felt as though she had lost a part of herself in this encounter. Yet another part knew she would return to him, no matter what. She couldn't help it—there was no escaping Dmitri.

Irina (thinking): "Dmitri… You're no angel. But you've become my world."
