Chapter 40: Fu Xi's Daughter—The River Goddess!
"We're trapped..." Liuu Piaomiao's voice trembled slightly; now they were trapped in this place, facing trouble, mainly not knowing exactly what kind of existence was hidden here.
"Why hurry away? I haven't chatted with anyone in a long time; seeing you here is comforting," that eerie voice came out again.
Lin Feng and Liuu Piaomiao felt a chill.
They couldn't feel any comfort towards this strange existence within the stone hall.
"Are you human or ghost, senior? Please reveal yourself," Lin Feng said seriously, as he quietly took out the Shariputra, holding it in his hand.
If the entity is an evil ghost, the Shariputra would surely be useful.
"Shariputra, it's something used against ghosts, it won't be effective here."
The mysterious existence seemed to have understood everything long ago, its eerie voice came forth.
Lin Feng furrowed his brow, cautiously looking around.
Suddenly, he felt his hair stand on end, as if just three meters behind him, an old man, dry and thin like a corpse, with a ghastly face and eyes looking sinisterly, stood.
Liuu Piaomiao followed Lin Feng's gaze and turned pale upon seeing the elder.
Lin Feng took a deep breath, suppressing the fear within his heart.
The stone gate was closed, trapping him and Liuu Piaomiao here.
If this person intended to kill them, he would have acted already instead of talking so much nonsense; thinking of this, Lin Feng's heart relaxed slightly.
He looked at the elder, saying, "The two of us accidentally entered here, disturbing your cultivation, senior. We hope due to our young ignorance, you will spare us."
The elder laughed, but his laughter was so eerie, it made Lin Feng feel a chilling sensation, "I only wanted to chat with you, never intended to harm you. If I wanted to, I'd have done it already."
Lin Feng boldly asked, "May I know your name, senior?"
The elder said, "Me? I've long forgotten what I'm called. I'm merely lingering, guarding this stone hall until the end of my life, which will conclude this tragic fate."
"Guarding the stone hall?" Lin Feng and Liuu Piaomiao were slightly moved.
Liuu Piaomiao asked, "Is this stone hall the legendary divine hall where deities once resided?"
The elder said, "It's something from endless ages ago, perhaps this truly is a divine hall."
Lin Feng asked doubtfully, "You're not guarding this hall, senior? Could it be you're unsure whether it's a divine hall?"
The elder said, "Though I've guarded for so long, I've never seen a deity."
An inexplicable expression flashed in the elder's eyes, as Lin Feng felt the elder was continuously observing him.
This feeling was strange but also made Lin Feng uncomfortable.
Though the elder hadn't acted to harm Lin Feng.
He hadn't even shown hostility.
But Lin Feng felt the elder seemed to be planning something regarding him.
Could it be an illusion?
Lin Feng could only suppress his fear inwardly, trying to remain calm.
"What's inside these coffins?" Lin Feng asked.
The elder looked at the coffins, saying, "These are divine servants."
"Divine servants?"
Lin Feng and Liuu Piaomiao showed expressions of astonishment.
Divine servants were believed to be golden giants, weren't they?
But these coffins clearly couldn't hold a golden giant's corpse.
The elder seemed aware of Lin Feng and Liuu Piaomiao's thoughts and said, "You wonder if golden giants are divine servants?"
Lin Feng and Liuu Piaomiao nodded.
The elder said, "Golden giants are not divine servants; they are merely guardians of the divine hall, passed down through generations, continuing until now. Though the bloodline of golden giants is far inferior to their ancestors, they persist in their duty to guard the divine hall. True divine servants lie within these coffins; they were the god's servants who buried themselves within before they fell."
A sudden change occurred in Lin Feng's expression, as he looked to the elder and asked, "Are you also a divine servant, senior?"
The elder squinted his eyes, looking at Lin Feng. At this moment, Lin Feng felt a chill throughout his body.
He secretly remained vigilant, with the mysterious elder before him seeming too bizarre.
The elder said, "Indeed, you could say so. I am the seventy-third divine servant."
Within the third layer stone hall, there were seventy-two coffins.
Evidently, those coffins were full of deceased divine servants.
They had buried themselves here.
Liuu Piaomiao asked, "Senior, the deities are dead, why are there still divine servants here? What is this divine hall, can you elaborate to us?"
The elder said, "This temple is called Luoshen Temple."
Lin Feng silently cursed the old man for not telling the truth; earlier he claimed he didn't know if the temple was a divine hall, now he's stating the temple's name.
Clearly, the elder had hidden many things.
Liuu Piaomiao exclaimed, "Luoshen? Isn't she the daughter of the Human Clan's ancestor, Fu Xi?"
Ancient texts spoke of Luoshen's story.
Fu Xi's daughter, the deity of Luoo River.
She was the heavenly goddess.
Many were captivated by her.
Lin Feng said, "Luoshen was one of the ancient giant gods; her temple is truly here. In mythical tales, Luoshen disappeared quietly, even her father, Fu Xi, couldn't find her. What happened back then?"
The elder suddenly said, "Would you like to hear a story?"
Lin Feng and Liuu Piaomiao nodded, "We're all ears."
The elder said, "Endless ages ago, Luoshen traveled, charming numerous deities, among them was a deity named Zhu Yin, with a human face and red serpent body living beneath the Zhong Mountain. This was a surprisingly powerful deity who began pursuing Luoshen."
"However, not only Zhu Yin pursued Luoshen; another was called Arctic God Emperor. The two engaged in a fierce battle, with Zhu Yin overcoming the Arctic God Emperor. He thought he could now be with Luoshen but unexpectedly, she was caught in a massive god-demon battle. Zhu Yin fought his way to the God Demon Battlefield, rescuing a critically injured Luoshen, though he couldn't save her from dying. After her death, Zhu Yin came to the Luoshen Temple and guarded Luoshen's corpse day and night until his own death without leaving."
Lin Feng asked, "Do you mean this temple actually buries Luoshen and Zhu Yin?"
The elder said, "I didn't say so, as this is merely a mythical tale, too ancient to trace back to its origin."
"Roar..."
But just then, from beneath the hall, a roar suddenly echoed.
Rumbling.
The entire hall began to shake violently.
"What's happening?"
Lin Feng and Liuu Piaomiao's expressions changed drastically.
"Don't be afraid, beneath this hall, a demon is suppressed."
The elder said.
"A demon is suppressed?" Lin Feng and Liuu Piaomiao wondered, what is going on?
"It was suppressed by a divine servant; the demon wanted to seize the temple after the deity's death but got suppressed by a divine servant, though the demon's life span is incredibly long, lingering to this day."
The elder eerily said.
