An Extra’s Rise in an Eroge

Chapter 8: Adam Ludwig

As Lily and I walked side by side down the hallway toward my room, I couldn't help but notice the maids casting teasing glances my way. They were playful, cupping their blouses to emphasize their tits or bending just enough to reveal lacy thongs—were enough to make my head spin. My heart raced, and I quickly turned my thoughts elsewhere to avoid further temptation.

I glanced over at Lily, trying to distract myself.

"Hey, Lily." I called upon her. I had something else in mind that have been bothering me since earlier and Lily is the only one who could clear my doubts.

"Yes, young master?" she replied, her voice smooth as always.

"How much do you know about my older brother?" I asked.

She gave me a curious look. "As much as everyone does, I suppose."

"Tell me everything," I said, more assertive this time.

Lily tilted her head slightly, eyes narrowing in confusion. "Everything? Don't you know your own brother?"

I felt a bit caught off guard. To cover my awkwardness, I gave her a quick spank on her ass. Her soft skin jiggled at the contact, leaving red marks where my fingers had landed.

"Ahn~!" She let out a soft moan, surprising herself.

Is she a masochist? I wondered, but pushed the thought aside. "Just answer me."

Lily blushed, her tone shifting slightly. "Yes, young master."

She composed herself. "Your elder brother, Adam Ludwig, is quite the prodigy," she began. "He's the youngest advanced swordsman in the Empire and currently holds the rank of colonel at just 22 years old. He's stationed at the northern border, in Lantel City, where he's been leading defensive campaigns against demons. He's on leave right now, but he'll be heading back once this month ends."

I processed this new information. In the game, military ranks were never a major focus, so I didn't know where my brother stood in the hierarchy.

"So, is he considered a high-ranking officer in the army?" I asked, feigning ignorance to keep the conversation going.

Lily looked at me, dumbfounded. "Young Master, how could you not know that? The Ludwigs have been a military family for generations, guarding the northern borders for the Empire. And as the heir of Ludwig, how can you be clueless about military ranking? Did you hit your head or something in your sleep? Are you suffering from amnesia, or perhaps... nervous because your awakening is near?"

Awakening? What's that? I thought, confused, but it seemed like the perfect excuse to escape this situation for now.

"Hah... Ha ha. Yes, yes, I suppose I am rather nervous," I forced a laugh. "My mind is... muddled. I seem to be forgetting quite a few things lately," I added awkwardly.

The servant's expression softened. "Don't worry, young master. Everything will be alright. You are, after all, a son of the House of Ludwig—home to geniuses."

"Right, right..." I muttered, waving my hand dismissively. "Now, back to the point. What's my brother's standing in the army?"

"Certainly, Young Master," Lily said. "The army's structure is quite straightforward. At the bottom, you have corporals, who lead a small strike team of 10 soldiers. Several strike teams form a squad under a sergeant. Squads are grouped into platoons, led by a lieutenant, and three platoons make up a company, commanded by a captain. Four companies form a battalion under a lieutenant colonel, and three battalions create a regiment, which is led by a colonel. Your brother commands a regiment as a colonel. Brigades, formed by multiple regiments, are led by brigadier generals. Above them are field marshals, who oversee entire regions. And finally, the grand marshal commands an entire army division. Your father, Duke Lucious, is the Grand Marshal of the northern army, the highest military rank in the north."

It took a moment for me to process everything. Adam was impressive—a colonel at 22. And my father, a Grand Marshal... That meant our family wasn't just high ranking in social hierarchy but also at the top of the military hierarchy.

""So, is Grand Marshal the highest rank in the army?" I asked, still curious.

"Technically, yes. But in terms of hierarchy... not exactly," she replied.

I frowned in confusion. "What do you mean?"

"Well," she began, "the only person who can directly command a Grand Marshal is the Emperor himself. But there's someone between them—the Grand Chancellor, who serves as the Emperor's military advisor. So he is higher in hierarchy that Grand Marshal but held no military power to command troops."

"Oh..." I murmured as realization dawned. "So, he's just an advisor?"

Here's a refined version of this scene:

"So, let's get back to where we were... about my brother," I said, trying to refocus the conversation. "I've been meaning to ask: if my brother is so talented, strong, and the eldest son, why am I the heir and not him?"

Lily smiled knowingly. "Ah, so that's what's been bothering you."

"Spill it, then. Why me?"

"Well, the answer lies with your grandfather."

"Grandfather? You mean Roderick Ludwig, my father's father?"

"No," Lily said, shaking her head. "I mean your maternal grandfather, Emperor Damien Hestia."

I froze, completely stunned. "Wait, what?!"

Lily nodded. "Your mother, Lilith Ludwig, was born Princess Lilith Hestia. She's the daughter of the Emperor himself, making you his grandson. Even though the Emperor doesn't interfere directly in the internal matters of the ducal houses, but the Ludwigs cannot deny the bloodline of the imperial family. As the emperor's grandson, you were chosen as the heir."

"Damn, that's... quite the pedigree," I muttered, still processing. "Heir to the Ludwig dukedom, son of a Duke, son of a Grand Marshal, and now, grandson of the Emperor? My background titles are really piling up. How could such an important character be left out of the game? How am I just an extra who wasn't even mentioned?"

As I floated in disbelief, Lily's voice pulled me back to reality.

"And I, Lily, am the personal maid of the Emperor's grandson," she said with a hint of pride, then turned to me with a playful glint in her eyes. "You wouldn't replace me in the future, would you, young master?" she asked expectantly.

"Well, that depends... on how well you serve me," I replied, sliding my hand beneath her skirt and grabbing a handful of her ass.

Lily's sultry smile returned. "Well, I won't give you a chance to complain," she whispered, her hand sliding over my crotch with a teasing touch.

Before I realized it, we had reached my chambers. I stopped in front of the door.

As we stepped into my room, I said, "Let's see how well you serve me tonight."

And with that, the door closed behind us.
