An Extra's POV: My Three Fiancees Hate Me

Chapter 265: Daughter of Marvin

After getting to the town, they found a place to settle down, an inn, each of them to one room. Riven headed into his room.

It was a small room with a single bed, a wardrobe, a table and a small bookshelf; there was a bathroom and a toilet, and the walls had two crystal lamps.

Despite it being small, it was pretty expensive, due to the fact that it was clean and very well kept. He sat down at the edge of the bed and pulled out Twilight; they hadn't spoken much as of late.

"You seem down," Twilight said.

"No, not really, just in thought a bit; I was recalling Beletrex," he said.

"Oh, the devil."

"Yes. If there was somehow a shrine holding Beletrex all this while and it took someone to unlock it, what other devils are lingering in this world?" he said.

"That's hard to say. Beletrex was a tough enemy, you died to him, in fact, so if there are more, then there will be an issue," she said.

"Exactly," he muttered, then got up. He walked to the window, opened it, and looked into the distance. "The demonized and the devils, I feel they have something in common: they get stronger through eating," Riven said.

"And what about demons?" she asked.

"It's possible they do too, but the demons are really cautious not to show their hand. It's like they are playing the long game with us," he said.

"Well, whatever it is that they want to do, we'll be ready for them," she said.

He walked away from the window and headed out. Immediately he stepped out and saw Noel standing outside.

"Already headed somewhere? You can't even tell us," Noel said.

"I wanted to check out the dungeon first; I haven't been in one for a very long time," Riven said.

"Alright, I'll tell the others. Meet you in a few minutes," Noel said and went to call the others. They all got their weapons and what they would need before coming out.

"Alright, finally, we can get some action," Jack said excitedly.

"You seem too happy to go," Noel said.

"My race is a battle race. All this being slow and learning at the academy hadn't been for me," Jack said.

"Well, you better learn in your free time; exams soon," Riven said before leading them away. They had on them their academy ID cards, which could allow them into almost any place, including, but not limited to, all dungeons, so Riven didn't need his guild card; he hadn't even worked as an adventurer in a long while.

[...]

The gate of the dungeon was one of the biggest Riven had ever seen; it was towering, made of massive metal and connected to a mountain in the forest.

He stared at the intricate details on the gate from a distance; it was as if it was carved by the gods.

"This is the Undead Gate of Lugen," Sophia said.

"Undead gate, I take it that it's undead monsters that are within," Noel said.

"Yes, all manner of undead monsters in more than fifty known floors; the difficulty of each floor is vastly different from the last," she explained and then went silent.

She was extremely informed about a lot of things, but the reason why Silva had to be the one giving information was simply because she refused to speak at all, even though she was much freer now.

There were a lot of adventurers entering the gates, and some city guards were watching the gate, making sure that whoever wanted to enter had the right permit.

Though Riven noticed that some men slid a couple of coins into the hands of the guards to allow them in without certification.

"That's risky," Noel said.

"Why? Maybe they lost their cards," Jack said.

"Or maybe they are dungeon killers who want to stay anonymous after they kill someone inside the dungeon," Noel said.

"Whichever it is, it has nothing to do with us. Let's go," Riven said and headed for the gate.

"Hey, stop there, kids. What do you want here?" one of the guards asked in a fierce tone.

Riven pulled out his ID cards and showed them to the man. He stared at the cards for a few seconds, then looked at Riven.

"You really want me to believe that a brat like you is the Riven Terron of the Golden Set, the number one first year of the Royal Academy?" His voice was loud and everyone around heard it; they all turned to see who was being talked to.

Riven frowned; he didn't know the whole Golden Set stuff had spread this far.

People began talking and pointing at him, saying he was trying to pretend to be who he wasn't.

"I have the card; doesn't that mean I am him?" Riven asked.

"Tsk. I don't know where you forged this from, but I'm not allowing you in. As a matter of fact, I'm arresting you for impersonation," the man said and stretched his hand to grab Riven.

"FREEZE."

Suddenly the man's hand was frozen in place with real ice. The man felt a bloodlust so vicious that it caused him to break out in a cold sweat.

He looked to the side, his eyes meeting the culprit, Sophia.

"If you touch him, you won't have a body to be buried," she said, her voice chilly as ice, her gaze piercing like a sword. The guards stumbled back.

"Who are you to say whether he is authentic or not? The card is authentic, you could have asked him any question about the academy, yet you chose to touch him.

You, a guard, laid your hands on a noble, and in front of the daughter of Duke Marvin. This city is under my father; I'll be having a word with the marquis later about you," she said, her eyes glaring at him with killing intent. This was the first time Riven saw her use her influence.

The man was immediately stunned. He looked at her, the hair, the expression, and he immediately knew that indeed she was the daughter of the Duke, and if she was the daughter of the Duke, then Riven really was the rank-one. His life was over; that was the only sentence that played in his head.
