An Abandoned Noble in a Reverse World

Chapter 16: Chapter 16: Snooze

"What do you want to do, Yoongi?" The youngest had jumped with ideas as soon as Teddy had announced her intentions. Their difficulty was picking one specialty to focus on at first. Jungkook being shy, shocked me with his list of subjects he wanted to learn ranging from martial arts to painting. Not that the other two hadn't been just as enthusiastic about their choices.

Namjoon, Hoseok, and Jin had taken longer at least two days, but still been able to choose. After coming to her with their choices Teddy had sent them information packets and in some cases safety packets. She had encouraged them to learn as much as they wanted and reassured them that she only wanted them to pick one thing right now because our "debut" into society was coming upon us quickly.

I wasn't sure why she allowed some of their choices they lacked practicality or were dominated by females. Even with no rejections of the other's ideas, I was having difficulty deciding on my own, mostly because this seemed too good to be true. It was no secret that there were only a set number of jobs "acceptable" for males to hold and no one had time for hobbies.

So when she cornered me on the couch after dinner I shrugged. Her eyebrows furrowed clearly displeased with my decision.

"What do you think would be best for me, Mistress?" I felt my lips curl in a smile as I saw her flinch at the name.

I soon regretted it though. She leaned close so we were practically sitting on the same cushion, a fawning smile on her lips and wide innocent eyes as she responded, "Whatever your heart desires Master Yoongi." I shivered a tingle shooting up my spine, I cursed my fair complexion because there was no doubt in my mind that I was wearing a furious blush.

She leaned back into the corner of the armrest wrapping her arms around one of her legs. "I think you shouldn't choose anything too physical or labor intensive, your shoulder is still healing." Her smile was back to the soft reassurance she usually gave, I felt my brain short circuit at the quick turn-around of both body language and topic. But I would be an idiot to try and keep things on the track they were.

"That's what I want," realizing she was not in fact a mind reader I explained, "I want to learn to heal, first-aid and all that stuff." Heaven knows that knowing even simple first aid would have me immensely while I was out there.

My job as a construction worker was not known for its safety hence my shoulder injury. Thinking about the number of injuries I could have prevented from worsening mine and my coworkers had my clenching my hands. I know they should have never happened in the first place and proper safety precautions should have been in place, but I still felt guilt flood me thinking about the people I didn't help. Couldn't help.

"Ok, I'll have the packets sent to you. I'll hire a teacher for you, it might take a while. Until you can meet with them I'll just keep compiling learning material for you." As far as I knew Teddy had never lied to us, a fact I admitted begrudgingly, but it felt like a trap.

Healthcare was strictly female, them being naturally caring and detail-oriented. Not to say Teddy hadn't shown her views to be progressive, but it felt like the agreement was too fast. She didn't try to redirect me or hesitate on how to break a rejection to me.

This woman puzzled me to no end.

"Please." I agreed. When she broke into a wide grin I mentally reviewed our interactions. I had no secret of my distrust of her, but she should not have been this pleased at common courtesy. She shouldn't like me enough to care.

"Of course," she agreed. I gave a nod, "Thanks." Teddy stood up probably to head to her office.

"And Yoongi if you get bored of the reading material and videos, I'd be happy to teach what I know." I wanted to think she was being condescending, but I could tell genuinely wanted to help me if she could. And if her hands picking at invisible lint on her jeans was any indication she was nervous.

"I'll let you know." I agreed easily. I made no promises, but outright rejection seemed rude and maybe, just maybe, there's a chance I wouldn't mind learning from her. With a sharp nod and grin she spun on her heel heading upstairs. And maybe it was my imagination, but her chin seemed to lift her head in a smug tilt. It was kind of cute.

I leaned back into the plushness of the couch content now that I had made my decision, it hadn't been rejected and I felt that the female holding my fate in her hands may be worth some of my trust.

She didn't have much of it, I still didn't trust her to not betray us if a better option came along. But maybe I could believe that she wasn't currently trying to harm us.

These cushions were really soft almost as if a sponge wanted to mold perfectly to me and then absorb me. I hadn't slept much last night being alone in my room was something I was still getting used to. Maybe I should rest my eyes for a bit.

Before I could make good on my intentions a ding with a soft buzz came from my bracelet. With a tap and a flick, I looked at my newest messages. Either Teddy she had assumed someone would be interested in health, she had files on every subject under the sun, or she was better at anticipating my interests than I was. I wasn't sure which one was more concerning.

I let myself sink further back, I wasn't going to fall asleep. Probably.
