Chapter 30: A Helping Hand! Underlying Currents Stirring!
"Damn it! Damn it!"
"The circuit plans for the company were my idea! Why should those guys above me steal the credit!"
Maxwell "Max" Dillon was an electrical engineer at Oscorp.
He was drinking on top of a building, with empty beer cans scattered around him, and he was getting closer to the edge of the building.
Max had always believed that he had a talent for electricity and wanted to become an electrical engineer.
But his single mother thought he wasn't smart enough and would never succeed, so she sent him to work as a wiring technician at a factory.
After working for most of his life, Max finally landed a position as an electrical engineer at Oscorp.
However, because of his short temper developed from growing up in a single-parent household, his colleagues didn't like him, and he was just an invisible figure in the company.
During a major circuit overhaul at the company, he seized the opportunity and provided an excellent plan for the company.
He thought he would finally be recognized, but instead, his credit was stolen by his superiors!
The lack of recognition from those around him and his lack of success at work.
This led him to climb to the top of the building.
Drinking to numb his sorrow.
While aimlessly scrolling through the news.
[Oscorp shareholder dispute, now in chaos, many unprofitable or low-profit research projects have been halted, and the future development is uncertain...]
"Ha, this is a mess."
["Green Goblin" Norman Osborn latest news, his body has not been found yet, experts suspect he faked his death to escape punishment...]
"Norman? Ha, good death, let's pop the champagne!"
[Tony Stark announces the closure of Stark Industries' weapons division, causing an uproar, with shareholders frantically selling their Stark Industries stocks...]
"Bastard, he cost me a lot of money! Damn capitalists! They all deserve to die!"
[Ghost Spider has recently taken down several mob hideouts and provided multiple leads to the NYPD. The mob's leader is known as "Gravestone"… Fans have called her the most down-to-earth superhero, though Female Knight's fans seem to have a different opinion…]
"Superheroes? Can they save my damn life!"
Max, growing angrier, turned off the screen and didn't bother looking at the next news article [Black Spider possibly spotted in Afghanistan].
Feeling hopeless in life, under the influence of alcohol, he walked to the edge of the building and was about to jump.
He didn't notice, not far from him, two people embraced as they swung toward him.
"Cindy, your home is so far, it must be troublesome for you to go to school."
Ye Li had a mischievous idea, "How about living in my estate? Free utilities, no rent, and I can hire a driver to pick you up and drop you off."
"I'm afraid you'll eat me up."
Cindy twisted her body, "Teacher, could you keep your hands to yourself? Don't touch weird places. Be careful, or I might slip and we'll both fall."
"I'm just curious about the material of your webbing. Besides, you don't seem to mind."
"It's all that strange attraction!"
Cindy: "You were so graceful in class, but if Felicia knew you were this perverted, she'd definitely be disappointed!"
"I think she'd actually be pretty excited."
Ye Li was about to tease her again when the system sent a message: [Detected Gwen Stacy's nemesis, "Electro," Maxwell "Max" Dillon.]
Hmm?
Ye Li sensed and noticed Max on the rooftop, still in his "Electro" form.
He saw that Max was about to jump from the edge of the building.
Ye Li thought for a moment and decided… to help him out.
After all, Max wants to die anyway, so why not get some rewards while I'm at it? Just don't know if "helping out" counts as defeating him.
Although he seems like an ordinary person right now, so what? Should I wait for the enemy to grow stronger and become a threat to my women?
Being classified by the system as a [Destiny Enemy] means that as long as Max doesn't change, he will eventually face Gwen.
Of course.
Ye Li also had some morals, so he only intervened a little.
If he survives, I'll let him go this time.
Anyway, even if Max becomes Electro in the future, Ye Li would still have ways to deal with him, it's just easier not to do it now.
So.
Just as Max was about to jump and end his life, he suddenly felt a strong gust of wind push him from behind, as if aided by a divine force.
My God, does even God want me dead!?
Is my life really this miserable!?
With this thought in mind, he fell from the rooftop.
But what Ye Li didn't expect was—at the same time, Cindy happened to be swinging past from that direction!
"What is that! It's going to crash!"
Instinctively, Cindy shot out a large web, covering Max and sticking him to the glass window of a nearby building.
"That scared me! Why can't you die farther away?"
Cindy nervously patted her chest.
Her Spider-Sense and speed were stronger than Gwen's, but her strength and physical abilities were slightly lacking.
If she had collided with him, it would definitely have hurt, especially since she had Ye Li in her arms.
"Uh…"
Ye Li, seeing Cindy's unexpected words and behavior, asked curiously, "Aren't you a superhero? Why don't you let him die farther away?"
"Who told you I'm a superhero?"
Cindy reminded him, "Let me tell you, don't think just because you have some abilities you can be like Ghost Spider and be a superhero. We're barely able to protect ourselves! I'll explain everything when we land!"
Ye Li didn't care. It was just the Morlun family, he knew about it, but didn't mind.
His Spider abilities came from the system, and the system protected him. The methods of the Morlun family to control totem bearers were ineffective against him.
On the other hand, Max, stuck to the glass window, was confused. He couldn't even die if he wanted to?
"Hey!"
Temporarily leaving Ye Li on the rooftop, Cindy hung down from the top and used her webbing to pull Max back up.
"Save him to the end, I'll take you up!"
"You... are you a superhero?"
Max looked at Cindy as she shot webbing from the rooftop.
That graceful figure, strong waist, and sexy web suit, so beautiful...
Though masked, it didn't stop Max from imagining.
He felt like he was falling in love.
And didn't want to die anymore.
"Hey, what are you looking at?"
Ye Li stretched his hand in front of Cindy's web-wrapped chest, blocking Max's gaze.
Cindy: "…"
Others just look, but you've already touched, seriously?
She almost lost her grip and dropped Max.
...
Time passed.
Oscorp Tower.
Chairman's office.
"Someone got a picture of one of our electrical engineers jumping off the rooftop to commit suicide, and Spider-Man saved him.
Now there are rumors spreading about this news, with the Labor Protection Association accusing our company of mistreating employees, and…"
"Enough!"
As soon as Harry heard the word "spider," he gritted his teeth and interrupted the employee's report, "Don't bother me with this, the company's problems are already enough to stress me out! Leave!"
"Yes." The employee reluctantly withdrew. He didn't want to get into trouble at this time.
"Damn board of directors!
They're always trying to use these things to distract me!"
After the employee left, Harry erupted in anger, as if he had been holding it in for a long time.
He slammed his palm on the table angrily, and the patterns were successfully recorded.
A hidden door in the room opened, revealing the Green Goblin suit, serum, as well as the Goblin Glider, pumpkin bombs, and other equipment.
Norman Osborn had made preparations, leaving Harry with information that allowed him to successfully acquire the "Green Goblin" technology.
Harry walked into the hidden room and picked up the Green Goblin mask.
After hesitating for a moment, he slowly placed the mask on his face...
"Who, don't even think about taking the company from me, hehehe..."
A wicked laughter echoed in the room...
At the same time.
In a sewer.
Peter was searching with a flashlight.
"Dr. Connors, are you there?"
New York City, underlying currents stirring.
