American Comics: Multiverse of Madness

Chapter 465: 465. Butcher's Operation.

"Hey, Butcher."

In the storage room of the Sage Grove Center, Alex was on the phone with Butcher.

"How's it going on your end? Any leads on Compound V or the A-Train's whereabouts?"

"It's going pretty smoothly. We tracked down the A-Train's secret girlfriend. Her name's Popclaw, an outdated superhero who's now just making adult films to get by. She has the information we're after." Butcher paused before continuing.

"Popclaw, huh... But you guys need to be careful. Compound V is probably Vought's biggest secret. Investigating this could cost you your life."

"The Translucent's already dead at our hands. It's too late to back out now."

Butcher chuckled, then continued, "Enough about that. How's the situation on your side? What's the deal with the asylum?"

"The situation here is more complicated than expected. As we suspected, the asylum is just a front. In reality, it's a secret facility where Vought conducts human experiments.

There's a massive amount of Compound V here, along with several test subjects and supers. It seems Vought is looking to study and stabilize Compound V, and they've been running various tests here."

Alex didn't hide anything and shared all the details about the Sage Grove Center with Butcher.

Upon hearing Alex's words, Butcher fell into a long silence. He hadn't expected that before he could uncover any leads on Compound V, Alex would have already made such a significant discovery.

After a brief pause, Butcher asked seriously, "What exactly is Compound V?"

"Simply put, Compound V is a product that causes genetic cells in the human body to undergo special mutations. It works by activating and reorganizing the human genome sequence, giving the body extraordinary abilities, which is commonly known as superpowers."

"You're telling me that the abilities of the Seven weren't innate, but rather created by Vought's research into this substance?" Butcher's eyes widened, and his voice unconsciously grew louder.

"You could say that. Don't forget, before Vought transitioned into an entertainment company, it was originally a pharmaceutical industry. I suspect they've been researching superhumans since the last century."

Alex half-jokingly explained his findings to Butcher.

"However, for now, Compound V can only be safely injected into infants. Newborns still have unstable genes and no fixed sequence. As the child grows, the compound's effects gradually manifest.

But if you try to inject Compound V into an adult, it won't work. An adult's genetic sequence is already fixed, and forcibly altering it only leads to death."

"No wonder…" Butcher frowned.

"I originally thought Compound V was just a kind of superhuman 'flour,' but now it seems it's far more potent than I imagined. No wonder the A-Train relies on it—Compound V can enhance his speed."

"It's only temporary. Compound V only helps with modifying the body, but it can't forcibly increase the strength of a superpower. Eventually, the A-Train's speed will slow back down," Alex casually explained.

"Wait, you just said that only infants can safely inject Compound V?"

Butcher was replaying Alex's complex explanation in his mind when something suddenly clicked.

"So what you're saying is, all supers are actually created by Vought through experiments in various hospitals and medical facilities?"

"Pretty much. The parents of those kids probably know about it too. In a way, it's a trade between Vought and those parents."

"Do you have any proof?" Butcher's lips curled into a dangerous smile.

"How much do you need?" Alex smiled back.

At this moment, both of them understood the plan ahead. Holding the card of Compound V and the truth about supers, exposing this information in the right way could cause a massive shock to Vought.

Not to mention, Alex was currently standing in Vought's secret research facility. The confidential documents and data on the human experiments here, if made public, would certainly make the whole world take notice.

No one would ever suspect that those so-called "chosen by God" supers were actually created by Vought. The revelation of inhumane human experiments would place Vought squarely in the spotlight, under massive scrutiny.

This wasn't just an issue for the United States; human experimentation was something the entire world strongly opposed. If mishandled, it could even trigger diplomatic turmoil.

At that point, Vought would become the most despised organization, and when they could no longer offer money and power to the supers, those supers would no longer stand with them.

"I'll send you all the files and data from here soon. Find a secure place to receive it. As for the next steps, you already know what to do. I'll cooperate with you," Alex said in a serious tone.

"Haha, feels like the world's about to flip upside down," Butcher smiled slightly.

After all these years, he finally had Vought by the neck. Once they struck a decisive blow against Vought, the remaining supers would be nothing more than a bunch of insignificant pawns.

Seeing Butcher getting a little excited, Alex couldn't help but remind him.

"Don't get too ahead of yourself. Vought's been entrenched here for so many years. Their power is more complex than you think. While they're currently reaching for the center of power, we need to strike them at their most vulnerable."

"Understood. I'll contact someone capable to help me with this," Butcher nodded seriously.

Just as Alex was about to say something, the warehouse door beside him suddenly opened, and the Lamplighter silently walked in.

Seeing Alex on the phone, the Lamplighter whispered, "I've opened all the cell doors as you asked. Once these out-of-control supers escape, Stormfront won't just stand by."

Alex nodded slightly, gesturing for him to wait a moment, and then continued speaking into the phone with Butcher.

"Get this out as soon as possible. I've already started moving on my end."

Butcher responded seriously, "Got it. Be careful."

After hanging up, Butcher immediately grabbed the intercom and called for the rest of the team.

"The plan's changed. Everyone fall back. Crow sent us a gift. If we play this right, we can take down Vought in one go."

"You're serious!?" came the startled voices of the Frenchman and MM from the other end.

Although they had been opposing Vought for a while, they had no idea how to take down the colossal organization. Hearing Butcher's words, their first reaction was disbelief.

Butcher wasn't surprised by his brothers' reactions. Now that he knew the inside scoop, he was feeling confident.

While pulling up Colonel Mallory's number from his contacts, Butcher let out a cold smile.

"Of course I'm serious. Let's show those bastards what's coming!"
