Chapter 448: Suicide Out of Guilt (Part 3)
At this moment, Major Bernard received a call from Jermaine Sara, and his worry was evident as he adjusted his glasses unconsciously. The last thing that could go wrong now was their bootlegging business.
However, just as Major Bernard was about to inquire about what exactly had happened, Jermaine Sara relayed the recent events to him.
Major Bernard was taken aback and asked, "Didn't your father say no one knew the location of the bootleg distillery? Why was it attacked?"
"Major, this isn't the time to discuss that. Please immediately call your connections and have the New Orleans security force investigate the situation at the distillery!"
Major Bernard wanted to ask how he could be sure of his connections in New Orleans. The connections he had mentioned were intended to be established after their bootlegging business was up and running.
At first, Major Bernard didn't think there was anything wrong with his idea, but now that something had happened, he had no idea what to do!
Just as Major Bernard was about to say something, Jermaine Sara's angry voice came from the other end of the line.
"Who let you in! Get out of here!"
Major Bernard also felt that whoever entered Jermaine Sara's room at this moment was being foolish. To bump into Jermaine Sara right now was a death wish.
He waited for Jermaine Sara to drive the person out and then address the current situation.
But what Jermaine Sara said next made him realize something was wrong.
"You, what are you trying to do, I'm..."
Bam!
The sound of a gunshot came through the phone, startling Major Bernard. He knew something was amiss.
"Sara, Sara, Sara!"
But no matter how Major Bernard called out, there was no more sound from Jermaine Sara on the other end.
Soon, a chaotic noise followed.
Before long, a stranger's voice was heard by Major Bernard.
"Who are you!"
The other person's voice was loud and angry!
"I am Florida-class Battleship Captain Major Bernard. I was just talking to Commander Jermaine Sara. What happened? Why was there a gunshot?"
Major Bernard quickly asked.
The other voice hesitated, then said, "Hello, Major Bernard. I am Brek Joyce, the Deputy Commander of the Seventh District of the Coast Guard. Just now, Mr. Jermaine Sara committed suicide!"
"That's impossible, that's impossible!"
Major Bernard felt like he had heard the biggest joke ever. How could Jermaine Sara commit suicide?
"The fact is indeed like this. Only Mr. Jermaine Sara was at the scene, and the gun used for the suicide was still in his hand. Also, Major, you were the last person to speak with Mr. Sara. We will report this to the FBI, and they will definitely contact you!"
After saying this, Brek Joyce hung up the phone!
Major Bernard held the receiver and slumped onto the sofa. He couldn't understand why everything that was planned perfectly ended up like this.
Soon, Major Bernard thought about who could have the capability to do this.
Thus, Major Bernard angrily dialed the number of Donnie Block's office in Atlantic City.
"Donnie Block, do you know what you're doing? You're declaring war on the Navy, on the great Federation Navy. I can tell you right now, you're finished. From now on, not a single bottle of your bootleg liquor will step onto the mainland of the Federation. That's my word, and you will pay for your actions, dearly!"
Donnie picked up the phone, twirling a freshly lit cigar in his hand, the price of which was 100 US Dollars. It wasn't that Donnie could only smoke cigars costing 100 US Dollars, but this was already the highest-priced brand available.
"Major Bernard, what did you just say? I was lighting a cigar and didn't quite catch it. But you don't need to repeat it since I'll be heading to Washington soon. Maybe we can talk face to face about what you wanted to say!"
Then, Donnie hung up the phone.
Major Bernard, in a fit of rage, slammed the phone to the ground, breaking it. So, when he wanted to make another call, he had to angrily summon the hotel staff to arrange another room for him.
"Sir, this needs to be compensated!" the staff said, neither humble nor pushy.
"Charge it to my account!" Major Bernard shouted out loud, his anger now uncontained.
The staff dared not say anything and led him to another room.
This time, Major Bernard called his superior and reported the incident. This was his biggest backing, a senior admiral in the Navy!
"I'm aware of the situation!"
After listening to Major Bernard's account, the other party responded indifferently and then hung up the phone.
Listening to the busy tone on the other end of the line, Major Bernard felt an unreal sense, shouldn't they be condemning Donnie Block together?
But this call gave Major Bernard a sense of something unusual.
This prompted him to temporarily halt the call he planned to make to his fleet.
A day went by quickly!
Major Bernard hadn't slept all night. Today, he decided to seek a definitive answer from the admiral.
But before that, he saw today's content in the "Atlantic City Post."
"A gang feud occurred in the New Orleans area, triggered by bootlegging interests. Additionally, our publication has obtained accurate information that one of the parties involved in the feud is Jacob Sala, father of the Coast Guard's Seventh District Commander, Jermaine Sara. Furthermore, after learning that his involvement in bootlegging was leaked, Jermaine Sara committed suicide in his office out of guilt!"
