Amelia and Ophelia: The Former Grand Duchess and Saintess.

Ophelia Side Story (Part 2): Excuse me what?

“WHAT?!” Everyone exclaimed at Olertin’s statement, the faces of his guard and entourage paled and their blood drained from their faces.

“What? Did I say something absurd?” Olertin asked as he turned back to face his entourage.

“Yes!” the elven lady exclaimed

“You just claimed this..this total stranger who I must add is a walking danger, your successor out of nowhere!” she added as she pointed at Ophelia

Ophelia let a wry smile as she nodded her head at the words spoken by the elven woman

‘Even I can agree that naming a successor by just meeting them is mad’ she thought as she took  a step forward and tapped Olertin on the shoulder “Your friend is right your majesty, naming me your successor by just meeting me is insane and nonsensical” she said

“Why would you trust a complete stranger like me who is seen as a threat and a danger to everyone?” she added as a concerned look filled her face.

Olertin glanced back and forth between Ophelia and his entourage before letting out a laugh as he walked over to a nearby log and sat down, confusing everyone even more with his actions. He then closed his eyes and stretched out his hand to the ground in front of him. He sighed as he saw that everyone was still confused and so he focused.

“Hnngg” he grunted as a green light shone from his hands and small beams of green light penetrated into the ground, causing several ornately decorated chairs to form and sprout from the ground.

“Here, sit and I’ll explain to everyone,” he said as he wiped the beads of sweat coming down his forehead. Looking winded as he did so,

Everyone exchanged concerned looks before sitting down on the chairs provided in front of them, all of them glued their eyes on Olertin. Ophelia as well had tried to take a seat opposite of the now tired king but he gestured towards her

“Sit here, next to me. It will be much easier for me to explain” he said as he patted the empty space on the log.

“Alright then” Ophelia hesitantly replied as she walked forward and took a seat next to Olertin.

She could feel the gazes of everyone else as she sat next to Olertin, unsure of what to do.

‘Alright then, let’s just hear what he has to say’ she thought as she let out a sigh and turned to face him.

“So please explain yourself your majesty” the elven woman said as she started the conversation

“It’s simple really. I need a successor who is strong. And who better than her, also-” but before Olertin could continue,

“But that doesn’t make sense your majesty!” the red-haired dragonkin cut him off, an angered expression on his face

“If you choose successors by force alone then I should have been the one! Not some random stranger!” he added as he pointed toward Ophelia angrily.

“If that is how you choose leaders then-” but before he could finish, Olertine sighed.

{!}

Suddenly, several vines sprouted from the ground and wrapped around him. Ophelia had noticed them before anyone else and reacted first, her reaction tipped off everyone else except the red-haired dragonkin. This made Olertin smile as he noticed her reaction as well.

“So you noticed them eh?” he asked with a smile

“Yes, it was quite easy, to be honest” Ophelia replied, as she stared at the person next to her. She then used her skill <Appraisal> on him.

‘I’m impressed someone as strong is here..and to think he is the king of this place’ she continued to think as Olertin suddenly let out a laugh as he stared at Ophelia’s thinking face.

Everyone else was still confused as this was going on but neither one wanted to ask any more questions as all of them felt that Olertin had an explanation and that all they had to do was just listen now. And sure enough, after Olertin had finished laughing he turned to everyone, a smile on his face.

“As you can see. She was able to notice everything I was about to do before you lot did” he said as he pointed towards the vines entangling the red-haired dragonkin.

“And to add to that, she is able to read my stats. And I can’t read hers” he added with a wry smile

{!}

Everyone who heard this had a shocked expression as they now understood his choice, including the red-haired dragonkin. He then turned to Ophelia

“Miss Ophelia, may you allow us to see your status? Since we are of lower power, we need your permission” he asked as everyone’s eyes turned to her.

Ophelia had a complicated expression on her face as she was asked, her thoughts running through her mind

‘Should I? Maybe it’s for the best. Even if they can’t comprehend it’ she resolved as she looked Olertin in the eye and nodded’

“Very well. Have a look for yourself” she answered

Olertin and the rest all used their skill <Appraisal> on her and what they saw left them all dead silent.

Ophelia had a wry smile on her face as she saw all of their faces slowly turn from shock and awe to pale-faced and scared as she could feel them reading the rest of her stats. Turning to Olertin and surprised to see that he too had a pale face and a scared expression, she cut off their ability to read her, which brought all of them back.

“Did you like what you saw?” she asked with a wry smile. But she was met with only stares and a shudder from everyone.

All of them had the same thought in their mind as she continued to switch gazes between them ‘What a monster’

Olertin cleared his throat as he steadied himself and faced Ophelia again

Were you previously nobility from a more developed nation?"

“Yes I was, more developed and advanced as well as larger if I compare it to this place” Ophelia answered as she gestured to the surroundings

“Well, let me explain ourselves then. We are a new nation that has been formed through the cooperation of several big tribes to protect ourselves from the slave nations on the other end of the continent, I have no offspring since my wife died and I am not going to live long. The tribes here banded together through the promise of protection and I am afraid I can no longer provide it, so I ask you, Miss Ophelia from a more developed nation. Can you please take my crown and ensure that this nation not only survives but thrives?"

Ophelia had a complicated look as she thought about the offer, trying to justify why she should accept, until she found it

‘Besides the slavers…wait, if I am the ruler. I can make an empire for her…Oh yeah…HAHAHAHAHAH’

But as she was about to answer, Olertin spoke to the entourage gathered

"My friends. My visions have guided us and bore us fruits ever since I had them and acted upon them. My friends, please trust me one more time on this, this lady here will not only ensure the survival of the nation, but it will also help it thrive and become something greater"

Olertin's words silenced the others and they simply nodded. He then looked back at Ophelia

"If you accept, I will show you around the small kingdom and help to try and establish you within the tribes. I will also do as much as I can to help you learn of our current situation and the rest of this continent" he said with a small smile

Ophelia was silent for a moment before nodding

"I too have had visions when I was younger. I acted upon them and used them to ensure that the people I was managing lived better lives. If it is the goddess's wish for me to bring this nation to a new height, then I shall accomplish it with no hesitation." she replied

'This will also ensure that when Amelia comes, no one will be able to disturb us' Ophelia said to herself to try and hide her other motives.

Olertin smiled as he heard her answer, he then got up and patted Ophelia on the shoulder. He locked eyes with her

"Thank you. Now come on then, we must make our way back to the capital" he said in a very happy tone

The group nodded

"Yes your majesty!" they answered as they began to gather themselves and began walking to the carriage

Ophelia nodded and walked behind them as they entered the carriage

'Looks like I'll be busy as well, Amelia' Ophelia thought to herself before climbing into the carriage with them.
