Chapter 8: Chapter 1: An Extraordinary Beginning Episode 8: The Light of a New Beginning
That night, moonlight streamed through the window of Akira's bedroom, casting its gentle glow onto the wooden bedside table where the necklace lay prominently. The blue gem at its center continued to emit a soft, pulsing light, as if it were alive. Outside, the wind rustled through the leaves, filling the night with a quiet symphony. Akira lay in bed, tossing and turning as unease filled his mind.
Reaching over, he picked up the necklace and gazed at it intently. The words of his parents still echoed in his thoughts. "Ready for what?" The question clung to him, refusing to let go.
In the stillness of the night, the gem's light suddenly grew brighter, as if reacting to some unseen force. Akira bolted upright, startled, and stared at the necklace in his hand. The soft blue glow intensified, spreading throughout the room.
"What now?" he muttered, attempting to set the necklace down, only to find that his hand wouldn't release it.
The light enveloped him completely, pulling him with an irresistible force. Akira struggled against it, but his efforts were futile. His body was consumed by the radiant light, and the world around him faded into darkness. The sound of the wind and the familiar confines of his room disappeared entirely.
When he came to, Akira found himself standing in a vast, grand hall made of white stone and translucent crystal. The towering walls were intricately carved with celestial patterns that seemed to reflect the night sky. The beauty of the place was awe-inspiring, but there was an eerie, unfamiliar chill in the air.
The stone floor beneath him bore signs of conflict—scratches, cracks, and scattered remnants of abandoned weapons, hinting at a long-forgotten battle.
Looking upward, Akira noticed twelve stars etched into the high ceiling, encircling a larger central star. The backdrop was a yin-yang-like design, with one of the smaller stars strikingly resembling Earth. A distinct marking pointed toward England, standing out sharply among the details.
"Where… am I?" Akira whispered as he took a hesitant step forward.
His eyes fell upon a series of carvings along the walls, depicting an epic battle. The images showed people wielding twin swords, locked in combat against strange, otherworldly creatures. The scenes stirred an inexplicable dread within him.
A sudden gust of cold wind swept through the hall, drawing Akira's attention to a massive wooden door that was partially ajar. Summoning his courage, he pushed the door open further and stepped outside.
The sight before him stopped him in his tracks. An endless expanse of white ice stretched out as far as the eye could see, blanketed in snow that shimmered under golden auroras dancing across the far-off sky. The desolation of the frozen landscape was profound, yet the ethereal light above lent the scene a surreal, dreamlike quality.
The biting cold pierced through his skin, sending shivers down his spine. Hugging himself tightly, Akira muttered, "I can't stay out here for long."
Reluctantly, he turned back and reentered the hall, seeking warmth and answers. As he explored further, he noticed a narrow passage hidden behind a towering stone pillar. The passage seemed deliberately concealed, as though guarding a secret.
"Could this be it?" he wondered aloud, stepping closer. The darkness within the passage felt both foreboding and oddly inviting.
Then, from the shadows, a faint whisper echoed around him, seeming to come from every direction.
"Akin… come forth… it is time… Arcadia needs you…"
The voice froze him in place. Arcadia. That word had been spoken by his parents in their conversation just days ago.
"They knew about this…" Akira muttered, his voice heavy with suspicion.
He now faced a choice. He could venture into the unknown depths of the dark passage or retreat to the relative safety of the hall. But the lingering curiosity and his parents' words—"Be ready for anything"—pushed him to take a step forward.
"Maybe… the answers are waiting at the end of this path," he murmured.
The sound of his footsteps echoed in the silence as he ventured deeper into the passage. The gem in the necklace began to glow brighter, casting a soft blue light that illuminated his path. Whatever lay ahead, Akira was certain that his ordinary life had just become extraordinary, and he was about to uncover the mysteries that awaited him.
