Alpha’s Obsession, Luna’s Revenge:

What Rita told me the first thing, it hardly shocked me as I already knew it. Her first sentence to me was, "The situation right now is extremely risky for you, Your Highness."

I already knew that my life was at stake.

"Rita, tell me, what's the news of Royal Palace? What news do you have of my husband Alpha Lord Mark Donnell? Is he safe?"

"He has unfortunately been arrested and confined to the dark cell in the palace, Your Highness, and I fear, if there's no intervention soon enough, he may be executed."

As I heard Rita, I tried my best to control my rage. I could see Rita's shocked face as she noted the transformation taking place in me. My canines protruded and nails began growing menacingly. As I saw Rita's shocked face, I realized, I had to control myself.

I was determined to save my husband first of all.

Rita interrupted breaking my trail of thoughts, "Your Highness, Allison was instructed to eliminate you as I heard the gossip surrounding the Palace."

"And your Body Guards – Dane and Lyra have been eliminated. All your personal staff have switched their sides and allegiance to save their lives."

I felt extremely sorry for Dane and Lyra, who stood steadfast in their loyalty and set an extreme example of sacrifice. I felt proud of them.

"In an extremely tragic event," I announced loudly, "two loyal supporters of the state, my very own bodyguards Dane and Lyra have been mercilessly executed. We promise to avenge their sacrifice."

Everyone was listening to me with rapt attention.

"We mourn the sacrifice of the great warriors. We will observe three minutes' silence and then the police band will play the mourning music."

There was a pin-drop silence and everything I announced followed precisely. 

I wanted to react in the cold blood. The rising tension within me right now was like a raging fire but the danger with this fire was that it would engulf me if I took a rash step.

I was always reminded of my dad whenever I felt imperiled. He once asked me, "Dear daughter Selene do you know the best strategy when you are surrounded by your enemies?"

And without waiting for my response, he said, "It is lie low and camouflage."

"What is camouflage dad?" I would ask.

"When you blend with your surroundings, you are almost invisible. That is camouflage."

"How do you blend dad?" I asked.

"Oh, that's simple. You put on the same dress and appearance that your surrounding has."

How terribly, I missed my dad, Alpha Darius! I wish he was with me.

But my immediate concern was to save my husband Mark Donnell's life.

I summoned Jackson and David, the healer.

"I want you to bring Allison back to consciousness as soon as you can. Inspector Jackson, you don't need to treat him harshly from now on. He could be our asset. I don't want to mistreat my potential asset. Do you understand?"

"Yes, Your Highness," they said in unison

"How long do you think, it is going to take Allison to gain his senses?"

"Your Highness, I foresee him awakening any moment now."

"Inform me when he regains his consciousness and keep him chained. He is yet to be won over and we cannot trust him yet."

I thought the policing system in our territory was pretty much dated. The art of interrogation was lagging way behind. It was ridiculous to think beating someone black and blue could yield all information.

I was not an expert in interrogation but I remembered the words of my dad. He once told me that only best friends share everything. If you want information from someone, make them your best friend.

I think, the time had come for me to become friends with Allison, who was now rotting in the dark dungeon stripped of his ranks and honor.

As I was lost in my thoughts over what I was going to do next, Inspector Jackson saluted me, "Your Highness, the enemy is back to senses."

"Inspector Jackson, we are not going to treat him as our enemy, even if he is our enemy. We will not trust him as yet, but we will make him believe that we are his well wishers and don't mean to harm him."

I knew, Allison was a toughie. He was not going to yield with friendship offers or even sexual advances.

I recalled the words of my dad to deal with such persons. He used to say, "Dear Selene, every one has a weakness, or a weak spot. If you want to win over a person, hit them at their weak spot."

I did not understand what he meant but today I think it was a valuable advice. I knew, it would be difficult to bribe him or to befriend him. He appeared like a morally strong person who hated unethical ways.

It was quite likely that we might lose the chances of winning him over if we approached him unethically or immorally.

The most important thing right now was to save my husband's life for which I needed the complete cooperation of Allison but I did not foresee him assisting me.

I had to think of a different game plan.

I instructed Inspector Jackson and Dr. David to attend to Allison and show him respect. I decided to meet him in the night when he would be feeling relaxed.

If you want to make someone relaxed and relieved, you need to unburden them and take away the loads of stress over them.

The communication network was still not restored, which meant everything was not yet right.

I summoned my ADC Rita. "Rita, I want you to find out about Inspector Allison. Find out everything you can, especially his family life."

And then taking her to a secluded spot, I said, "I want you to especially find out about his weaknesses. I mean, no one is perfect. You have to spot their weaknesses. Will you find out something about Allison for which he might renounce his allegiance to the state? Do you understand?"

"Yes, Your Highness," Rita said bowing down her head and before she could go far, I shouted back to her, "And remember, this is urgent, I do not have much time."

Meanwhile, I was worried about my husband. He needed to survive. He was not only an emotional anchor for me but the central to my plan.

I needed to intervene in the royal palace to save his life.

If I could....I thought over my plan again and again.
