Chapter 12: Was Alpha Mark Donnell Kidnapped or Rescued?
Luna Selene's Pov
I had too many tasks to handle suddenly. The most urgent among them was to rescue my mate Mark Donnell. I did not trust his dad, the old hulk who was a butcher. He could get him maimed or murdered without any guilt.
The other urgent task before me was to discuss with Allison to bring him to my side. I wanted to lure him with an attractive bribe. I spoke to Myrah and offered the best thing I could do for her, medical treatment for her kid.
It was not exactly a bribe but a humanitarian gesture of the state.
When Myrah was speaking to her mate, I secretly eavesdropped their conversation.
I heard them what I expected. Allison thought I had bribed Myrah. They might have begun quarrelling had not Myrah said something I couldn't have easily believed.
But then, I was a daughter of my dad Alpha Darius who had taught me to never trust anyone.
I think I made the right decision to eavesdrop on their conversation. Myrah was a kind of bitchy woman, who act like double agents. She told her mate to continue his loyalty with Alpha William Wolf while acting loyal to me.
I think she was exactly doing what she told her mate to do.
I could not trust her.
And when I spoke to Allison in secrecy in his cell, he was thankful to me.
He believed or made me believe that he trusted me because I was doing a service to the state.
But I could not believe him because I had just heard him and his mate converse.
Before, I could think of winning Allison's confidence, a misfortune occurred.
There was a lone wolf attack.
No one really knew where this rogue wolf came from. This rogue wolf attacked and almost killed Inspector Jacob.
Before, he could be thrashed, I intervened.
To the others, this was a rogue wolf and according to the norms of the pack, he had to be punished with death.
But I immediately knew more than others could understand and before he could be slaughtered, I had him arrested.
To the rest of the men there, I was taking this arrested lone wolf to a distant place in the forest to butcher him.
Wolves have a special ability to smell. Each of us have unique scent. All wolves have the ability to detect the scent, but they cannot smell at a deeper level.
My dad had taught me this fine ability at its ultimate level. Alpha William Wolf had also worked on this skill. He picked and chose his men, especially in the police force based on the level of this skill.
I had taught this skill to my mate Mark Donnell.
Some of us are god gifted in this skill. They combine their training to achieve this skill at its highest level, like I and Mark Donell, my mate.
Very few among various packs are qualified to this level. We can not only detect the unique scent of a wolf but also detect the combinations of the scent. With the access to this combination, we can also know the places a wolf has visited and kind of humans and wolves they came in contact with.
The scent of this lone wolf instantly informed me that he was my friend and not my enemy. I then decided that this rogue wolf should not be killed.
The wolves from the Southern Territory packs have a unique scent that not everyone can smell. My dad had taught me to recognize my friends from enemies using this special ability. I hadn't taught this secret skill to anyone in the Southern Territory.
When I was conversing with Allison, I felt a strong waft of this friendly smell and rushed out.
I had to save this friendly wolf. I didn't care that the others called him a rogue wolf.
I also needed to save Mark Donnel on a priority basis.
I immediately knew what I had to do.
I had to ensure that Allison remained incarcerated. Myrah and her kid had also to remain there.
I had to make a quick plan to mount a guerilla attack on the cell where Mark Daniell was incarcerated.
I, Rita, my ADC, and a handful of other officers made a plan. I knew of a secret tunnel that would take us there. The power was not yet restored to our advantage. We embarked on our immediate mission to get my mate out of the cell.
My focus was divided between my mate and the rogue wolf.
I directed my men and Rita to move to the rescue operation while I took the lone wolf with me.
This rogue wolf was indeed from my native state, the Southern Territory.
I spoke to him for long. He revealed surprises. But I could not afford to hear him in depth.
I asked him to go back to the Southern Territory and promised to meet him again later.
It would have been a reckless move to reveal to him my plans but his scent was convincing. He came from the inner precincts of my pack, the Woodridge pack that ruled the Southern Kingdom now.
The Southern Kingdom was no longer ruled by the Woodridge pack. The current rulers from the Bourbon pack were our vassals. They were not our enemies but were now more loyal to Alpha William Wolf.
We could not trust the Bourbons. They were capable of snooping, and reporting us or who knows even killing us.
My dad used to say, "Never believe your political allies." The reason he explained was that there is no king or kingdom ever that has not been built over the dead bodies of the former rulers.
So even if Bourbons are not our enemies, can we trust them, our former vassals.
I was worried about the rescue team that had marched to the dark cell. I was worried that in case they committed the slightest mistake, our mission would be exposed.
If I rushed behind the rescue team, I might have delayed reaching out to Allison and Myrah. Even though they were under the strict vigil of the cops, leaving them alone for long could have been disastrous.
I rushed to the Police Station trusting my men to successfully rescue my mate.
At the police station, I was pretty happy to note that everything was pretty much under control. Allison and Myrah had conducted well. The cops were waiting for us.
I informed the cops that the traitor, the lone wolf was punished. I had slain him and littered his dead body to rot.
When Rita came back from her mission, her sullen looks alarmed me. I did not want her to speak before everyone there.
In the privacy of a room where no one could intervene, she told me that when they reached there, they found a commotion. There was a confusion in the palace. Someone had kidnapped Alpha Mark Donnel from his high-security dark cell.
My brows twisted in stress. Who could dare to kidnap Mark Donnell from the prison cell, if not Alpha William Wolf himself? But it was quite unlikely. If he kidnapped Alpha Mark Donnell, there would be no confusion, no one would be talking about it. The guards were harshly interrogated. Why would they be, if Alpha William Wolf was behind it?
Was he rescued or kidnapped?
I had to find this answer urgently. Alpha Mark Donnell was critical to the success of my mission.
