Chapter 260: The Golden Brain.
Leo and Snow came back home and two days passed in a quick blink. Leo had been keeping an eye on the two parties, the Lugers and the Primals, however, to his surprise, they weren't making any moves, not even in the shadows. The young man took a deep breath and then he picked up the file placed on his study room table.
The file was placed there by Kyle before he switched shifts with the rest of the guards. Leo opened the file and found the details related to Damon Yuri. Leo was curious on how this young man came upon such a model. He read the file and found that it was not the boy who had come up with this model, but his father, the renowned scientist, Mikhail Yuri.
As he was reading the file, he came downstairs and Snow asked, "Did you find anything interesting in it?"
Leo nodded and handed her the file after tapping on the page where the details of where Damon got the idea were written. Snow smiled and said, "Well, even imitating what his father had done takes some brain so I would give him credit for that."
Leo nodded as he sat down and looked at Lily who was sitting on the side, eating her meal with a smile. Leo blew her a kiss and she did the same in return before the young man picked up his spoon and fed Lily the first bite from his share and Lily smiled as she said, "Baba, guess what will I get today?"
Leo pretended to be confused and asked, "A candy?"
Lily snorted and said, "I have tons of candy. I have 3 factories, you know."
Leo chuckled and replied, "Yes, I know. So, what will you get?"
Lily replied, "You can find out when you come to pick me up at school, for now, eat, we are getting late."
The young man bowed his head and began to eat under the watchful gaze of his daughter. When the meal was finished, Leo took her to the school and then went back to the office. Leo came to his office and just as he was about to sit down on the chair, he received a call from the Utopia Research Center.
The person was Amina Yulu, and she said, "Sir, a few days ago, Professor Mikhail Yuri joined the research center. He has a project that he wishes to pursue and have been asking if you would like to be the exclusive partner in this project?"
Leo was surprised, while he understood that it wasn't a coincidence, but he didn't know what the professor wanted with him. The young man asked, "The professor is interested in meeting me?"
Amine Yulu replied, "Sir, he should be in the city and probably waiting for you already in your office. I have received his text confirming the same."
Leo nodded and replied, "I will check into it, don't worry."
Then the call was disconnected and Leo called for June. The young man said, "June, can you check with the lobby if a person named, Professor Mikhail Yuri has come to wait for me?"
June nodded and walked out before she made a call downstairs to confirm and sure enough. The man was waiting for Leo and the staff was cycling the appointment letter. June came to inform Leo while putting the reception at hold, and the young man waved his hand to call the Professor upstairs.
...
Leo brewed a fresh pot of coffee, and waited for the professor to come up. When he heard the knock on the door, he said, "Come in."
June pushed open the door, and said, "Sir, Professor Yuri is here for you."
Leo nodded and said, "Welcome him inside June."
June turned back to gesture for the man to walk inside, and Leo was surprised to find that the man didn't look like a scientist at all. He had a heavy bulky build and his appearance was too clean. As if a soldier.
Leo came forward to extend his hand and the man shook it, they settled on the couch and Leo asked if the man would like to have some coffee. The professor replied with a faint smile, "Yes, thank you."
Leo poured him a cup and the man asked for dab of cream in it. Leo obliged and asked while moving the cup forward, "Professor, may I ask what was so urgent that you came over here all the way from the Northern region?"
Mikhail Yuri took a deep breath and asked, "I wanted to ask you a question."
Leo raised his brow and nodded to signal the man to continue, the professor asked, "Mister Cardinal, if I asked you to invest millions or even billions of yuan in a project that could solve the energy trouble and enable the nation to save a lot of money, and everyone would be able to have energy for free."
Leo thought for a bit and asked, "Professor, may I ask you one question in return as well?"
Mikhail Yuri sighed but he nodded, and Leo asked, "What would you say if this free system would be free from maintenance and regulations? What about the people who would work along with us in this project? Do you expect me to pay them from my pocket?"
Mikhail Yuri frowned and Leo continued, "Professor, with all due respect, things that do not have any value collapse and vanish. You will give me the technology, and even if I do not charge money for it, the various energy companies will come at me, claiming that I am deliberately causing trouble to their business, and that's not all. They would take me down along with this project of yours. I may be rich but not rich enough to fight these tycoons."
The Professor shook when he realized that he has been living in the books a bit too much. Leo said, "Professor, I can promise you that I will not make any excessive profit from this technology. However, I wish to recover the cost that I invest, and then make sure that the product is sustainable. That is all I can do."
Suddenly, Mikhail Yuri asked, "How do you know it was an energy project?"
Leo smiled and replied, "I met your son's partner yesterday in school Science Fair. They displayed a model of the Magna-Gen."
Mikhail was stunned and then he chuckled as he said, "At least those two boys have a better naming sense than me."
Mikhail and Leo then went on to discuss the project at length. However, before the man could get ahead of himself, Leo said, "It is good to hear that this project can open so many paths for us. However, I would like to ask you to focus on a full scale working unit. I don't entertain the idea of a prototype. I will give you fifty million yuan as a cap for one unit. Once you succeed, that unit would be mass manufactured.
So, for the first goal, I will ask you to go small scale, units that could power an office complex. Something like that."
He pointed at the three dimensional model of the office park that was being constructed in the city's western part. Mikhail Yuri stood up from his spot and inspected the model. Leo said, "I will power all the buildings with such power generators in combination to Solar and small scale wind turbines. This Magna-gen of yours will give me a chance to achieve a completely thermal or nuclear power free space. The first in the country. What do you say?"
As soon as he said this Mikhail shivered and said, "Yes, I will do it. However, would you mind keeping this technology inside the borders for a few decades?"
Leo shook his mind and said, "The Apex nation can forget about it, but the rest of the world, unless they bow their heads, I will not let even a single unit of Magna-Gen go out of the border and you have my word."
Mikhail took a deep breath to calm his mind and then said, "Yes, I understand. When can we sign the agreement?"
Leo picked up the intercom and said, "June, get me Frag. Tell her we need to write up an agreement."
June called the young counsel and Fragrance arrived over in a few minutes with her assistant.
Leo and Mikhail gave their conditions for the agreement and then the assistant dashed off to write up an agreement. Fragrance stayed behind to consult the two on how the energy laws worked and Leo listened in to hone the business.
He then said, "It would be better if Snow could handle this, but she has so much to deal with at the moment. Fine, I will go and ask a county in the north to give us permission to test the prototype units."
Fragrance nodded and Mikhail sighed as he said, "I had no idea that implementing a technology would be so difficult."
Leo shook his head and said, "Your task is to come up with the tech, and the rest is ours to handle, Professor. Your golden brain is about to light up the entire nation."
