Chapter 32: (1): Season 1: Preparation
A few days ago.
The situation in Japan could be considered even more serious.
In Korea, the Cyclops appeared in the city, which was somewhat fortunate. It couldn’t be expressed as a fortunate event to have it appear in the city, but it was certainly better than appearing next to a nuclear power plant.
The Cyclops possessed an exceptional resilience against weapons, that much was certain. Speculation dominated that the Cyclops in Korea and those in other countries exhibited variations in strength, but it remained an unverified rumor. Historically, Korean monsters tended to be more formidable than their foreign counterparts, yet it was uncertain if the same applied to the Cyclops.
Nevertheless, the Cyclops that had emerged in the United States had crumbled under the relentless firepower of the American military. Rather than relying on cutting-edge precision-guided weaponry, they employed explosive and high-powered arms.
While it was a flaw that the Cyclops didn’t drop any items, the crucial fact was that they managed to eliminate it using contemporary scientific prowess. If hunting was achievable through modern science and technology, then hunt they would. However, if the prey happened to surface beside a nuclear power plant, the situation would take a different turn. Attempting to capture a Cyclops could potentially result in obliterating the entire area.
Thus, it became a matter of relying on human strength rather than formidable weaponry. To employ powerful arms, they would have to lure the Cyclops out of the power plant’s vicinity and into a safe zone far away. Strangely enough, just like its initial appearance in Korea, the Cyclops refrained from venturing beyond a certain distance and refrained from demolishing the power plant facilities. One could even describe it as docile. The Japanese people, like their Korean counterparts, prayed for the sudden disappearance and reappearance of the Cyclops elsewhere, yet their wishes went unanswered. The Cyclops continued its wanderings in the same location, persisting through days and nights.
The employees working within the nuclear power plant were trapped, unable to leave their confines for over three days. As concerns escalated within Japan, similar sentiments arose in Korea:
– Why can’t Japan achieve what Korea has?
-Japanese slayers are all cowards.
– They’re nothing but spineless. Flaunting their abilities.
Yamamoto, the leader of the Hedeyas Union in Japan, found himself deeply troubled. He was well aware of the might possessed by the Korean Union. At least he knew of the man who had effortlessly cleared dungeons before—Yoo Hyun-seok. In the recent Cyclops slaying, Hyun-seok had led the Vanguard 1 team, exhibiting remarkable valor and achieving great success. It was practically impossible for the vitality of Vanguard’s slayers to be evenly drained, reducing their health by one-third each. Yamamoto was aware of Hyun-seok’s capabilities.
‘In typical situations, it’s impossible for everyone’s H/P to decrease at the same rate.’
Yamamoto maintained caution despite the chatter that surrounded him. While he wasn’t present at the scene, he had a decent understanding of the circumstances and had discerned that the Cyclops was no ordinary monster.
‘That monster must have some penalties. It doesn’t make sense for the H/P of slayers with different abilities to decrease at the same rate. Even that man. There must be a penalty for the damage caused by the monster.’
While he couldn’t determine the precise levels of Hyun-seok’s health and defense, Yamamoto could speculate that they were incredibly high. However, if Hyun-seok’s health diminished alongside that of other slayers, then there was undoubtedly more to the situation. Yamamoto’s discernment was close to being accurate.
As pressure from the government intensified, several guild teams in Japan began assembling Cyclops slaying squads. Limiting their numbers to 70, as if issuing a challenge to Korea, the Japanese teams solidified their composition. The Japanese people hailed their determination, decision-making, and bravery.
And then, news arrived.
– Over 70 elite slayers lost their lives.
– Successive reckless slaying attempts. Mounting casualties! Over 140 slayers perished!
– Proximity to Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant. Bombing is unfeasible!
-The Japanese government. A state of extreme tension. How will Japan overcome this ordeal?
The entirety of the Japanese archipelago resonated with mourning and an atmosphere saturated with apprehension. Subsequently, over 90 individuals, feeling threatened, reformed into raid teams and launched a new challenge, only to meet their demise on the very spot. Not only Japan but the whole world was plunged into shock and disbelief.
