Chapter 85: Music Box of Doom - 2
Startled, Damien pulled away from Wistoria and looked behind him.
On the threshold of the infirmary stood Thalia, she was holding a tray with a flask and a plate which held bacon, mashed potato and a sort of kidney bean pie.
"Thalia," Damien greeted her with a smile. "Good morning," he slid a glance at Wistoria but the woman instead of looking annoyed was now smirking haughtily.
And if women were a mystery to Damien before, they turned a whole new mysterious force to him after this.
Thalia stepped inside the infirmary with the tray in her hands, she looked as homely as Wistoria looked wild. She placed the tray on the side cabinet where a small vase with a little white flower sat, before straightening up.
She said to Damien, "Did I disrupt you ?" Her gaze was sullen as she glanced at Wistoria with a gloomy gaze.
"No, you did not," Damien replied, smelling the scent of gunpowder in the room. He asked Thalia, "Is there something that matters?"
"Master Godric has asked for you," said Thalia as she turned to look at him, her gaze softened lightly while looking at Damien.
"Master Godric?"
"That's right," Thalia nodded as she stated, "Master Godric has something to say to you, he asked you to come and see him after you are done with your breakfast." she paused and added, "Alone, that is."
Wistoria raised a brow when she heard Thalia's words but she didn't say anything as a retort. Damien was thankful for that, as the last thing he wanted was for the two women to start a cat fight first thing in the morning.
He quickly finished his breakfast before getting down the bed and rushing out of the infirmary.
"Do you know something host, your actions look like a scumbag," Dan remarked as he watched Damien walk out of the infirmary. He, as an AI system, had a lot of data including a lot of useless daily soaps that he had downloaded in the human world.
Damien's actions thus collided with the scumbag who treated and played with two women before taking his leave.
"Shut up," Damien snapped at the AI system. He didn't want to hear any nonsense first thing in the morning, what did he mean by that he looked like a scumbag? He was a pure man with a pure body.
Damien marched down the office where Master Godric usually stayed when he had to talk about something serious. As he walked past the guild members he could hear some whispering happening behind him but Damien didn't pay attention to them.
With his pace, he soon arrived in front of Master Godric's office. He raised his hand and knocked on the door and a beat later,
"Come in," came a muffled response.
Damien pushed open the door and entered the room where Master Godric was waiting for him. The old man raised his head and looked at Damien with a smile.
"Close the door if you can please. Wouldn't want our conversation to be eavesdropped and I don't think you will like to hear the whispering," said Master Godric.
"No, I think I had enough of whispering last night," Damien remarked as he closed the door and walked over to the chair where he sat down when Master Godric didn't say anything.
"So," Master Godric asked as he clapped his hands. "How are you feeling?"
At first he thought that Master Godric was kindly asking him how he was withstanding all the whispering but then the man went on and said,
"Main healer of the guild. It's quite a responsibility," Master Godric smiled at him and Damien shifted in his chair uncomfortably. Something about Master Godric's gaze was like one of those super ultra X ray lasers, it was as if he could see right through him. Not just skin and bones, but right into his soul.
"Master Godric," Damien began. "Are you sure about this?"
"What's wrong? Feeling a bit less confident now that the night has passed?" master Godric said to him and Damien shook his head before saying to him, "It's not that, if I become the main healer of the guild, there will be a lot of dissatisfaction."
He paused and added, "And I am nothing special." He was speaking the truth. Dan was the reason why he could do half of the things, compared to the healers who could treat an injury with a snap of their fingers, he was on the slow side.
"It's alright. Even if the guild members are dissatisfied, it will only help us in clearing up the guild which we have avoided for a long time." He paused before continuing, "And as for not being special? Who said that you need to be special to do great things?"
Damien felt a boost of confidence. It was a nice feeling, hearing someone speak with him with no spectism or doubt in their tone.
"Anyway," Master Godric changed the topic. "I never expected anything special from you."
"That's good to know," stated Damien feeling the balloon within his chest puncturing.
Master Godric smiled at him upon hearing his words. He interlocked his fingers and placed them on the surface of the table, "You will soon learn that only those who have no expectations weighing down on their shoulders, do great things."
"Fulfilling others expectations is a bit taxing – but fulfilling your own.. On the other hand," he trailed off before pushing a piece of yellowing paper in front of Damien. He said to him, "This is your first mission. The client has requested to follow her especially."
"Geez, who is crazy enough to ask me to follow her on a mission?" Damien said as he pulled the paper towards him. He glanced at the information on it and frowned before saying, "Music box? I have to look for a music box and destroy it?"
What kind of childish mission was this?
"Not just any music box– The Music Box of Doom. It was created by one of the transcendental beastman."
