Vol 2 Ch 16: Lorenz Nyx
I separated from the female Agnis to talk to some noblemen. I was sure he, she whatever, would give me a headache if I would stay close. Moreover, I would probably hurt her act of trapping noblemen at this party if I was nearby. It is bizarre, Agnis doesn’t understand the female gender at all yet I have no doubt that he will be successful in tricking men. I guess it is in his nine-tail blood. I decide on a fake name and approach 2 noblemen at a table. They seemed to be talking about politics. I had to approach this carefully to maximize my efficiency.
Good afternoon gentlemen, I’m Lorenz Nyx, and I'm the accountant of that noblewoman over there. I gestured at Agnis who was in his female disguise and drew gazes at herself.
Recently I discovered an old document from an anonymous sender which had various unimportant details in it but it had a specific detail pertaining to a certain ‘Event Horizon’ that drew my interest. I was unable to find concrete information or evidence about its existence, could you two perchance shed a light on my predicament?
“What a lovely lady you serve, even under the nobles it’s a subject that isn’t well known, I’m not surprised your lady doesn’t know about it because she seems quite young, I myself don’t know much about it, only that crimes against royalty and noblemen get punished by getting sent to Event Horizon. I don’t know where it is. All I know is that a message will be sent through the royal palace to the prison and wardens will come to pick up the criminal at the southeast gate.” Hmm, I see, the document alluded to a member of my lady’s family getting sent to Event Horizon, do any of you have any suggestions for retrieving this individual?
“Hmmm, I got nothing, how about you Clive?”
“My apologies, as far as I know, once one enters the gates of Event Horizon, they will never leave.” That is unfortunate, I extend my gratitude toward you two for this little chat, do any of you perchance know of someone who might know more?
“Under the nobles, maybe Gregory Janis Bertov, besides him, probably the royal family.” He looked over to the royal family in the distance and I followed his gaze. Thank you very much. Clive showed me the person who I shared my name with. I tried to act casual and not head over to him immediately. I looked at what Agnis was doing and he seemed to have seduced 3 guys. One ran off and talked to my target and got something that looked like a journal. I guess in his own way Agnis found out information similar to mine and even procured information. In that case, I can relax a bit. I need to go to the toilet. I asked a royal guard where I could find the lavatory and got directions.
I left the party hall and found myself in the palace corridors. I followed the directions but ended up in what looked like a reception hall. I backtracked but instead of ending up at the party hall, I ended up at the throne room. Is it possible that the layout of this palace constantly keeps changing? I saw a royal guard and approached him. Excuse me, I came from the party hall looking for the lavatory, one of your colleagues showed me the direction but he must have made a mistake.
“If you are all the way here that means he must have messed up yeah, you take the right there then take the second turn right and it should be on your left after you pass the indoor garden.
Thank you. I followed his instructions but he must have made a mistake too because I found myself at the throne room again. I really needed to go to the toilet.
“Hey, what? How did you end up here? I saw you going through that corridor over there. Did you teleport or something?” No, I just followed your directions and ended up here.
“That… that’s not possible… here let me guide you to the lavatory, was it? That means toilet, right?” That is correct.
“You must be one of those, those people that always seem to get lost and find impossible ways to end up at the same spot, here you are, this here is the toilet, after you get out continue down this path until you hit a wall and turn right, you will find yourself back at the party hall, even you can’t mess this up, cya!”
I vacated my bladder and followed the direction of the kind royal guard. I kept walking and walking; I should be at the party hall by now. This palace needs clear direction signs. I walked a bit more and I got an ominous sensation. Some ominous energy was coming from somewhere. It can’t be an assassin because the ones that kidnapped Ella at least were undetectable, these are either inexperienced assassins or something else. I followed the energy to a large wooden door. I looked around and shadow melded inside. I stayed in the shadow because there were 3 people inside.
“How is the plan going?”
“It is going quite well, we didn’t have to do much, Ignatius tanked his credibility with the queen by himself, just a little bit more and it would be easy to get him assassinated, unfortunately, Shania got found but she still seems in distress so it might take time before she could become queen after the assassination. In the meantime, we could influence the other ministers and seize the power in this country.”
“Hmm, well the silent six are a problem to this plan though, fortunately, one died in their mission to retrieve the princess.” It seems that these 3 are ministers plotting the downfall of the current monarch. This is information that Agnis might be able to use to our advantage. It would be better to keep this a secret from Ted though, he would want to interfere even though it is not our place to.
“Maybe we can locate those that managed to kill one of the silent six and get them to our side.”
“Hmm I don’t think that’s necessary, Douglas, our top-secret project has shown good results. By modifying prisoners from Event Horizon, we have managed to make the perfect super-soldiers, their obedience is still a problem but not something we can’t solve.”
“Do you genuinely think this is a good idea, Herman? They were locked up in the 4th ring for a reason.”
“Well, we have a prisoner from the 3rd ring that wants to lead them, he seemed willing to get his sentenced lessened to lead this bunch of misfits.”
“Hmm, I see, anyways we have to make sure Shania stays in her current mood or we have to attempt and help her escape.”
“Well, we are lucky that she does this on a regular basis, it helped us speed along our plans, the palace always becomes chaos and poorly managed when she manages to escape.” I kept listening to these ministers chatting but they shifted to some political issues. I am uncertain if this information could be useful but it sounds interesting enough. I moved through the shadows and emerged in the corridor and tried to find my way back.
-Yoo, where the fuck are you?!- -I think I took the wrong turn somewhere. –
- So, you’re lost… again… I’ll link my eyes up with you so you can find your way here. I need to get out of here! - -Thanks-
Agnis, linked his vision with mine and I followed his conversation with the royal family. It seems he put himself in a difficult situation again. I followed the route he had planned for me, at least Agnis didn’t lead me astray. I started to run because things were starting to take a turn for the worst.
I arrived at the party hall and used [Blackout], drowning out all the light in this hall with shadows. I grabbed Agnis who was clumsily running at me with her long dress and shadow melded to the edge of the capital. From there he teleported both of us back to Ainahs. I am convinced that your middle name is “Chaos”. Hmm, Agnès Chaos Oures, nah, that doesn't sound good.
What? You know what? I don’t think I want to know… I told Agnis about the information I acquired and he told me about his findings.
