Age of Ascension: Forging an Immortal Realm from Nothing

chapter 32 - The 10th Day! (4/4)

In the Endless Void, there was no day or night. For Wu Chi and his two beautiful companions, the days were a tense but fulfilling blur of survival and growth.
Day 6: A total of 828 monsters attacked. 400 elites and 428 common mobs, all between level 5 and 10. The monsters were no longer a thoughtless swarm; they were getting smarter. But in the end, they were all turned to dust by the Level 2 defense towers. In this battle, Qin Keqing made her debut, her [Frost Breath] freezing a huge swathe of enemies in their tracks.
Day 7: 1,130 monsters. 780 common, 350 elite, levels ranging from 5 to 12. The monsters were stronger, and they crashed against the defenses like a tidal wave, managing to reach the [Withered Wood Wall] despite the towers' firepower. The wall lost a good chunk of its durability. Lin Daiyu and Qin Keqing entered the fray, sweeping through vast numbers of monsters to end the battle. After collecting the rewards and opening all the kill chests, Wu Chi began upgrading his territory and its buildings.
Day 8…
Day 9…
Day 10.
Wu Chi, Lin Daiyu, and Qin Keqing stood atop the wooden wall, their expressions grim. The invasions had become more frequent, the monsters' cunning increasing at a visible rate. They had evolved from mindless charges to coordinated, multi-wave assaults designed to apply constant pressure. If it weren't for the terrifying power of his two gold-tier heroes, the territory's defenses would have been breached long ago.
But with great danger came great rewards.
The territory was now Level 4, with an area of 2000 square meters. He had added six more defense towers, for a total of three in each corner, allowing for saturation fire in any direction. Naturally, all the towers had been upgraded to Level 4, their firepower absolutely ferocious.
Other new additions included five [Farming Plots], which, for some unknown reason, all transformed into [Spiritual Fields] after he clicked the "+". Crops were already planted. He'd also upgraded his three [Water Wells] into three [Moonwell], and the crude [Washroom] had become a proper [Bathhouse].
Furthermore, buildings like the Altar and Barracks were also at Level 4. With the Barracks upgrade, the Steel-Plated Wild Boars could now be upgraded with [Void Essence Stones], but the cost-benefit ratio was terrible. Wu Chi recruited 30 new ones and upgraded his existing 40 to Level 3, then left them be.
After getting the Altar to Level 4, he had upgraded both Lin Daiyu and Qin Keqing. But his luck with summoning had been abysmal. Over the past few days, he'd spent over 2000 [Void Crystals] and all he had to show for it was a massive pile of women's clothing and cosmetics. Not a single new hero.
All in all, the territory's military strength had increased significantly.
"Today is the 10th day. The monster wave will be even stronger," Wu Chi said, his voice low. "Everyone, be ready."

"Yes, young master!"
"As you wish, young master."
The two beauties stood at his side, their exquisite faces set in serious lines. After days of constant battle, even the once-timid Qin Keqing now carried a faint aura of killing intent.
Wu Chi nodded, his brow furrowed as he stared into the swirling fog.
It was 2:20 PM.
The void monsters had appeared in the morning but hadn't attacked yet. They were just… lurking in the mist, as if waiting for something. As far as the eye could see, there was a dense, writhing mass of them. Too many to count.
"They've surrounded the entire territory," Lin Daiyu reported, her brows knitted. "The only strange thing is, why are these bloodthirsty, rampaging monsters holding back?"
"It is strange. But all we can do now is wait." Wu Chi crossed his arms. He had made all the preparations he could: towers upgraded, heroes upgraded, troops upgraded. He'd even updated their gear. The three of them had all their equipment slots filled, mostly with common white items like [Leather Boots] that gave a point or two of constitution, and a few rare pieces.
The minutes ticked by.
5:00 PM.
Just as Wu Chi was starting to feel the fatigue and was about to pull out something to eat, the monsters in the dark mist finally moved. And when they moved, they surged forward like a breaking dam.
A great wind kicked up, revealing the hideous forms of the monsters as they charged. Each one was two meters tall, with red skin, a grotesque head with goat-like horns, and moved with a terrifying, gorilla-like gait.
"Here they come!" Wu Chi put on his [Lens of Truth].
[Calamity Beast]
Level: 9
Skills: Lightning Breath.
[Elite Calamity Beast]
Level: 11
Skills: Lightning Breath, Calamity Curse.
One, ten, a hundred, two hundred… In the blink of an eye, over a thousand monsters were stampeding towards them, their roars shaking the very air.
Wu Chi's gaze sharpened. He watched their distance, and when the moment was right, he swept his hand forward.
In that instant, a thousand towers answered the call.
The 10th day. A nice, round, ominous number. It felt like the universe's way of saying, "Hope you enjoyed the tutorial, because it's over."
Wu Chi stood on ◈ Nоvеlіgһт ◈ (Continue reading) the wall, a position that was becoming depressingly familiar. To his left was Lin Daiyu, looking bored and dangerous, as usual. To his right, Qin Keqing, who, after nearly a week of non-stop monster-slaying, had started to develop a thousand-yard stare that was both terrifying and, he had to admit, a little hot.
The past few days had been a blur of upgrades, battles, and frantically trying to figure out what to do with the mountain of loot, most of which, inexplicably, consisted of lingerie and blush. He had spent 2000 Void Crystals—the equivalent of a small nation's GDP—on the hero altar and had summoned exactly zero heroes. Instead, he now owned enough silk stockings and rouge to open a high-end brothel. His summoning luck was so bad, he was starting to suspect the gacha gods were personally fucking with him.
"You know," he said, breaking the tense silence, "for a place called the Endless Void, it's really starting to feel cramped."
The fog was thick with the shapes of… things. Red, horned, gorilla-like things. They’d been out there for hours, just milling about, a silent, menacing traffic jam of pure evil.
"They're waiting for a signal," Lin Daiyu said, her eyes narrowed. "Or maybe they're just really bad at time management."
"Whatever it is, I don't like it." Wu Chi grumbled. "It's like they're unionizing." He checked the time. Five o'clock. Dinnertime. His stomach rumbled in protest.
And as if on cue, the horde roared as one. The ground trembled. The lazy, swirling fog was torn apart as thousands of [Calamity Beasts] charged forward, a red tide of muscle and bad intentions.
"Finally!" Wu Chi grinned, a wild, slightly unhinged light in his eyes. He raised his hand.
"Time to make it rain, ladies!"
The air itself seemed to sing as every single one of his upgraded, souped-up, and frankly over-powered defense towers opened fire at once. It wasn't a battle. It was pest control on a biblical scale. Frost, machine-gun fire, and arcane bolts crisscrossed the battlefield in a beautiful symphony of destruction. The front line of monsters dissolved into a fine red mist before they'd even taken ten steps.
The ones behind them, apparently not getting the hint, just kept coming, a seemingly endless supply of horned, angry idiots running headfirst into a meat grinder.
