Chapter 404: Teacher, Is This Really How Our Limu Acts?
After Yu Li and Huang Ya discovered the oddity in the drawings, Jiang Xi downstairs also noticed something amiss.
Her gaze rapidly swept across the children's papers.
This one was drawing a human face.
That one too.
All these children were drawing human faces!?
A creeping unease settled in her chest as she stepped closer to Limu and whispered, "Do you notice it too?"
Limu glanced around and nodded calmly, "If I'm not mistaken, this must be how they swap faces."
First drawing their appearances, then transforming into their childhood versions.
Jiang Xi pressed her lips together, scanning their surroundings until her peripheral vision caught a child staring intently at her.
Limu blinked in surprise, instinctively reaching out. "Wait—"
Too late.
Whether due to Jiang Xi's abrupt movement or not, all the children simultaneously froze.
Dozens of expressionless faces turned toward her.
An eerie silence fell, broken only by rustling grass in the breeze.
Under their collective stare, cold sweat beaded on Jiang Xi's forehead. Stuck mid-step, regret flooded her.
Damn it... she'd acted too rashly.
Her stray glance caught the nearest drawing, and her pupils contracted at the blurry sketch.
Was that... her?
This child was drawing her??
Noticing Jiang Xi's attention, the little girl at the easel suddenly convulsed. She leapt up with a piercing shriek: "AHHH!!!"
Jiang Xi recoiled instinctively. "You—"
What the hell? She hadn't done anything!
The next second, the girl tore her drawing off the easel, viciously shredding it before crumpling the pieces and shoving them toward her mouth.
"Holy shit!!" Jiang Xi abandoned caution, grabbing the girl's wrist in panic. "You can't eat that!!"
Her words triggered chaos.
Every child began screeching, mimicking the girl by tearing their drawings to shreds and cramming paper into their mouths.
The scene descended into absolute bedlam.
Jiang Xi, utterly unprepared for this nightmare, flailed desperately between children like a headless chicken.
Each time she stopped one, another would wail and thrash with shocking strength.
The cacophony of screams and sobs transformed the garden into purgatory.
Overwhelmed, Jiang Xi turned to seek Limu's help—only to find the woman standing motionless, observing the chaos with detached indifference.
Those fox-like eyes watched coldly, making no move to intervene.
Already frayed by the noise, Jiang Xi's temper snapped at the sight of those eerily familiar eyes and Limu's composed demeanor. "Limu! Are you just going to stand there? Help me!"
The woman stiffened almost imperceptibly.
Slowly, she lifted her gaze to meet Jiang Xi's.
Though her expression remained neutral, Jiang Xi froze under that look, sweat chilling her back as she stammered, "I-I'm just... overwhelmed."
The mannerism was identical to Yu Li's.
Whenever Yu Li did this, Jiang Xi could already hear the words:
*"What does that have to do with me? Jiang Xi, why should I solve your problems?"*
But mercifully, Limu wasn't Yu Li.
After a weighted pause, she finally stepped forward.
Taking a piece of the girl's paper, Limu popped it into her mouth without hesitation.
Jiang Xi gasped. "What are you—"
"It's rice paper," Limu interrupted calmly. "Edible."
She added, "Their drawing tools are probably food-grade too. No need for panic."
Jiang Xi's face cycled through shock, embarrassment, then irritation.
Releasing the boy she'd been restraining, she stood awkwardly, tone caught between accusation and sheepishness.
"You could've said that earlier."
Rubbing her nose, she mumbled, "Sorry... the noise got to me. I wasn't thinking straight."
Limu studied her before responding unexpectedly:
"No need to apologize. I share the blame for not explaining sooner."
The unexpected humility left Jiang Xi speechless. After a beat, she murmured, "You're... not what I expected."
Public consensus painted Limu as superficially gentle but fundamentally cold and temperamental.
This didn't match that image at all.
Extending her hand, cheeks pink, Jiang Xi said, "I had unfair preconceptions. Let's start over properly—Limu."
The woman eyed the offered hand before nodding, lips curving slightly. "Agreed."
Unbeknownst to them, the live chat had imploded:
[OMFG SOS SOMEONE BLEACH MY EYES. TEACHER, THIS CAN'T BE OUR LIMU??]
[I'm deceased. Even as a fake, could you at least TRY to imitate her properly??]
[Limu ADMITTING fault?? This impostor needs her brain checked. Zero effort!]
[Since when does Limu verbally apologize? She either fixes things silently or bends reality until she's right.]
[Why's Jiang Xi blaming others? SHE caused this mess by overreacting!]
[Probably frustrated by the noise plus Limu's inaction. Classic misplaced anger.]
[Jiang Xi's cracking under pressure. She's clearly out of her depth.]
[Her and Hou Liang both—their skills don't match their ranks. All luck, no composure.]
[Where's the betting pool? I'm going all-in on this being fake. If wrong, I'll eat my hat.]
Leaning on the second-floor railing, Yu Li watched the spectacle below. A soft chuckle escaped as she skimmed the comments.
"Don't spoil the fun so soon..."
This was only the beginning.
