After Time Traveling, I was Forced to Marry a Wealthy Family

Chapter 43

When Gu Huai said this, there was no trace of anger on his face; it was as dark as water, his eyes deep and calm, yet bone-piercingly cold. He now resembled a ruthless head of a wealthy family.

“Do you think I’m just joking or trying to scare you? Mu Ci, I usually don’t joke in places like this.”

The fingers holding his knees suddenly tightened, and Mu Ci turned around to look at his calves in panic. Held tightly in Gu Huai’s arms, his face was forced into the other’s strong chest, blocking his vision.

“Gu Huai… don’t…”

In the darkness, Mu Ci became even more frightened. He whispered Gu Huai’s name, trembling involuntarily and attempting to pull his legs back.

However, with Gu Huai’s strength, Mu Ci couldn’t break away. Gu Huai clasped Mu Ci’s fragile knee joint with one hand, his fingers exerting sudden force, veins sprouting on the back of his hand.

His strength could break a person’s spine barehanded. Mu Ci’s calf bones broke instantly, twisting in an unnatural direction. His knees turned red and swollen visibly.

Severe pain shot up from his calf like a lightning strike, rushing straight to his forehead. Tears burst out of his eyes instantly, and he let out an extremely tragic cry. The voice was as miserable as if his vocal cords had been skipped, bursting out directly from the chest and falling apart.

Then there was silence in his ears; there seemed to be no sound except the sharp white noises. Gradually, he couldn’t hear anything, and his consciousness disappeared without a trace, falling into Gu Huai’s arms, dripping with cold sweat.

He fainted from the total pain.

Gu Huai’s expression didn’t change at all. He stared at Mu Ci seriously. After a long time, he picked Mu Ci up and hugged him sideways, his injured calf shaking weakly.

“You won’t dare to run away again, right?” Gu Huai lowered his head and rubbed Mu Ci’s forehead which was covered in cold sweat. He couldn’t accept Mu Ci leaving again, so a harsh and decisive punishment like this completely must be done.

.

Gu Huai carried Mu Ci out. The middle-aged woman heard the screams behind the closed door and had already rushed out, looking at Gu Huai in surprise.

Seeing that he was about to walk out with Mu Ci in his arms, the woman hurriedly took out her mobile phone and shouted in a stern tone: “Who are you?! I’m going to call the police, put him down!”

Without even looking at her, Gu Huai walked outside. A bodyguard in black came in, held down the woman’s shoulders, took away her mobile phone, and warned in a low voice: “Don’t cause trouble.”

The woman was stunned and didn’t know what to do for a moment.

While she was stunned, Gu Huai had already disappeared from the quaint gate and vanished in the blink of an eye.

Gu Huai returned to the Gu family mansion with Mu Ci.

When the vehicle drove into the heavily guarded and magnificent gate, Mu Ci, curled up in the spacious back seat, was jolted awake by the bumps caused by the shock-absorbing belt.

The moment he opened his eyes, confusion enveloped him in the complete darkness. Mu Ci vaguely discerned dark, blurry shadows of trees outside the car window, swaying like ghosts seeking life.

Mu Ci shivered and abruptly woke up. Gradually emerging from the coma, waves of pain surged through his calf, intensifying over time. Eventually, Mu Ci, covered in cold sweat from the pain, bit his lips and groaned.

Gu Huai glanced at him and calmly stated, “We’ll be there soon,” unsure if he was offering comfort or simply stating facts.

However, this brought no comfort to Mu Ci. He pushed himself up with difficulty, glimpsing the familiar nightmare-inducing villa outside the car window. His heart sank gradually.

If he had never tasted that plain and free happiness, perhaps he wouldn’t be so desperate. But Mu Ci had lived the life he once longed for, experiencing a month like a bird dormant for seven years finally seeing the sun and refusing to return to the damp, dark underground.

.

It was already night time by the time they arrived.

The car halted, the driver got out, opened the door, and bowed respectfully. Gu Huai took Mu Ci’s arm, helping him down.

Mu Ci still struggled, unable to withstand the pain in his calf. Biting his lower lip until it was bright red, his face grew paler, making his appearance seemed eerie in the night.

Gu Huai stared at him, knowing he caused all this. He fulfilled his earlier verbal threat, breaking Mu Ci’s calf with his own hands. Distressed? Yes, but he felt no regret. Gu Huai knew what method was most effective. Instead of prolonging the agony, cutting it off decisively seemed the better option.

The night wind lifted from the ground, rustling their clothes and hair. Gu Huai ascended the steps to the second floor, placing Mu Ci on the bed and summoning the doctor.

Mu Ci ceased fussing or struggling, staring blankly at the ceiling. When Gu Huai stood up, Mu Ci weakly inquired, “Where is Zheng Xuran?”

Gu Huai sneered, “You, a great Bodhisattva, can’t save yourself when you cross the river, yet you still care about others?”

Mu Ci remained silent, gazing at Gu Huai. After half a minute, Gu Huai turned around to pour water, saying patiently, “He’s not dead.”

The warm water flowed into the glass, making a slight sound. Mu Ci turned over and curled up subconsciously. He could barely move his right leg, the slightest touch causing excruciating pain. His knee was severely swollen, the bones twisted abnormally.

‘It hurts…’

Although Mu Ci endured neglect since childhood, no one had confronted him directly. The only previous injury occurred when he blocked a knife for Ji Yunshu. Unexpectedly, the next injuries were inflicted by Gu Huai.

Quite amusing, Mu Ci mused. The most severe pains in his life were caused by men—someone he once loved deeply and another who claimed to love him.

Gu Huai held the water glass and extended it to him. Mu Ci’s phone rang suddenly. He took it out and answered. Wu Ming’s anxious voice resonated clearly in the quiet room.

“Mu Ci, where have you been? Why haven’t you come back so late?!”

Wu Ming’s anxious and concerned words overwhelmed Mu Ci, and he pressed his face into the pillow. Choked up uncontrollably, all the grievances surfaced, and he sobbed, “I hurt, my legs hurt so much…”

Wu Ming became even more anxious and asked loudly, “What’s going on? Where are you? Mu Ci!”

Gu Huai seized the phone and said coldly: “He will never go back.”

Wu Ming was shocked, “You, you are…” A loud sound from the receiver indicated that Gu Huai had hung up.

.

Wu Ming sat at the dining table for a long time without regaining his senses. The food on the table had gone cold, but he hadn’t touched a bite.

.

Gu Huai rubbed his wrist, grabbed Mu Ci’s shoulders, and turned him over. The pillow was soaked and tears hung on Mu Ci’s eyelashes; the corners of his eyes were red.

Gu Huai’s heart softened for no reason. He gently wiped the tears from the corners of Mu Ci’s eyes and coaxed in a low voice, “Stop crying, the doctor will be here soon.”

To confirm his words, there was a knock on the door, and Jiang Wenjing entered with two assistants. Frowning at Mu Ci’s legs, she asked, “How did it happen?”

“Why do you care so much?” Gu Huai frowned displeased, standing up. “Just give him basic treatment so he doesn’t become disabled.”

Jiang Wenjing found Gu Huai’s demeanor surprising, considering the recent affection he showed Mu Ci. She sighed, questioning if the fickleness of the wealthy extended to turning their backs on others.

Approaching Mu Ci, she cut open his trousers and set his bones with a strap.

Mu Ci’s injury wasn’t particularly severe, caused by human hands rather than a car accident. While not completely broken, the bones weren’t spared. He would endure some discomfort during the recovery period, a suffering he shouldn’t endure in the first place.

When Jiang Wenjing helped Mu Ci set his bones, he screamed out in pain and kept shrinking back.

Jiang Wenjing took out an injection and said, “I’ll give you an injection to relieve the pain; otherwise, you won’t be able to sleep tonight.”

Mu Ci nodded with tears in his eyes, expressing gratitude, “Thank you…”

Unexpectedly, Gu Huai interrupted Jiang Wenjing coldly, saying, “No.”

Jiang Wenjing looked at him in surprise, and Gu Huai, with an expressionless face, addressed Mu Ci, “This is the consequence you deserve, Mu Ci. Remember this pain, and think twice before attempting to escape again. If you dare to run again, you’ll have to endure more than this.”

Mu Ci lowered his eyes, and tears fell. He cried quietly, with only the sound of water droplets falling. Eventually, he uttered, “I hate you; I really hate you.”

The voice was soft but clear enough for everyone to hear. It carried strong accusations, grievances, and resentment—feelings of powerlessness after enduring severe hurt. Almost everyone was moved by these words, except for Gu Huai, who, accustomed to being hated, had grown numb.

The cruel and ruthless, Gu Huai.
