Chapter 2
On a winter night in 2018, a luxurious black business car parked in front of the Gu family’s mansion. The doorman swiftly approached, courteously bowed, and opened the car door, deftly placing his left hand on the car’s roof.
Gu Huai, who had taken over as the head of the Gu family six months earlier, emerged with his long, purposeful strides. The biting night wind blew at his suit. The housekeeper offered him a coat, but Gu Huai waved it off, walking briskly towards the main house, cloaked in the frosty air.
For the past six months, Gu Huai had been thoroughly busy. The Gu family, with its rich history dating back to the Republic of China, held diverse business interests, spanning from real estate, mining, magazines, and fashion. Managing both legal and less savory ventures, presented its own set of challenges.
Gu Huai was young and faced discontent among many of his subordinates. However, he spent these six months placing his own people in important positions and quietly erased old people inside the Gu family’s business.
After more than half a year of strategic maneuvering, he had gained deep respect among his associates. When he gave a command, it was met with smiles and shivers down the spines of those who crossed him. His rapid ascent to power was attributed to his iron-willed leadership, even stronger than his father’s.
Butler Bai Ling hurriedly approached him with a perplexed look on his face, “Young Master Gu, this afternoon, a maid discovered a person near the backyard pond.”
“Who is it? A spy?” Gu Huai inquired as he walked, not bothering to look back.
As they walked, Bai Ling kept his pace, his brow furrowed in puzzlement. “It doesn’t appear so, but he resembles an actor. He was dressed in ancient attire with long hair.”
Gu Huai paused for a moment, “What’s the story?”
Bai Ling, who had grown up with Gu Huai, was familiar enough to speak candidly. “The maid found him lying by the water, and couldn’t woke him. We thought it best to place him in a guest room for now.”
He added, “The mansion’s security is intact, and no alarms were triggered. It’s rather odd that this person turned up. We thought it was best to wait for your return before making a decision.”
Gu Huai casted him a stern look, “If this person is indeed an enemy spy, those in charge of security should pack their bags and leave.”
The night air was frigid, and the boss’s gaze was equally icy.
Bai Ling, a 27-year-old housekeeper and security director, couldn’t help but shudder. Gu Huai had already moved ahead, striding towards the main house, leaving him behind.
Just stepping into the main house’s garden provided relief from the cold. These grounds were meticulously designed by internationally renowned landscapers, with underground temperature control and insulation, allowing exotic flowers to bloom even in the depths of winter.
Gu Huai exuded a commanding presence. In ancient times, he could have been an emperor. He passed through the flourishing flora with nary a glance.
The bodyguard at the door promptly opened it, greeted the ‘Honorable Master’.
Bai Ling managed to catch up after a few steps, slightly breathless. “Young Master Gu, the contract with Sheng Xin is in the study. Would you like to review it now?”
Gu Huai was about to nod but then recalled the matter he had just mentioned, “Let’s see the spy fished from the water.”
Bai Ling chimed in, “The person really didn’t look like a spy!”
.
According to Bai Ling, this man had been placed in a second-floor guest room in the main house. Gu Huai opened the door, there was a private doctor inside.
When the doctor saw his boss enter, he quickly stood up and greeted him. Gu Huai acknowledged the greeting and turned his gaze towards the figure in the bed.
At first glance, he noticed the man’s frailty, almost disappearing beneath the thick quilt. Gu Huai inquired, “Could this be a woman?”
He reached out to uncover part of the man’s face. What met his gaze was ethereal beauty and porcelain-like fairness. That was Gu Huai’s first impression. Delicate brows, a hint of a feverish flush on the cheeks, gently furrowed brows, and meekly drooping, long eyelashes casting a delicate shadow on the cheek.
Nonetheless, this was unmistakably a man, just a very delicate one.
Gu Huai plucked a strand of the man’s long, slightly damp hair. Had he come from the pond?
Bai Ling, concerned about his boss’s safety, started to approach, fearing a sudden act of violence from this potentially dubious character. However, Gu Huai had already uncovered the entire quilt, and this slender man was completely naked beneath the fluorescent light.
Gu Huai’s expression froze, and he promptly re-covered the individual. Bai Ling had only taken a cursory glance, musing on the man’s beauty and alabaster-like skin.
The private doctor explained, “His clothes were soaked with water, he was feverish too. So, I took it off but there were no other clothes for him.”
“Have you given him any medicine?” Young Master Gu rarely cared about people. So this question stunned the doctor for a moment.
“Yes, he will wake up after the fever subsides.”
Gu Hai nodded and looked at the person again. Then he turned around and went out, “When he wakes up, come and find me.”
Bai Ling watched his boss leaving in a stunned silence, his heart turned up and down.
No, this is so wrong! According to Young Master’s character, shouldn’t he pour a cold water to wake this person and tortured him for information??
Sure enough, this person was so beautiful that the boss turned stupid!!
When Bai Ling turned around, he saw the doctor who looked like he had seen a ghost, “You also think something is wrong with our young master right?”
The doctor analyzed, “If young master really takes liking to this person, then I, as the person who took the clothes off and saw the naked body, might die in a violent death any time soon.”
Bai Ling patted his shoulder and said solemnly, “Don’t worry. I will do the funeral for you and paid it all on my own.”
The doctor, “…….” Do you think I wouldn’t break your legs??
.
The person’s clothes were brought to Gu Huai’s study after drying and folding by a maid.
Gu Huai picked them up with a single hand, confirming what Bai Ling had suggested—a complete set of ancient clothing, no trace of modern items, no wallet, no ID, not even a pair of underwear.
The absence of any modern belongings was puzzling. Had this person time-traveled from ancient times?
Gu Huai entertained the absurd notion as he examined the moon-white undergarments.
