Chapter 4: Chapter 4 Paternity Test (edited)
Chapter 4: Paternity Test
"Let's do the hair test. You can pluck it out now, right?"
Yun Zijin didn't want to have her blood drawn or have a swab taken from her mouth, so she chose to have a few hairs plucked.
Xia Zhengguang didn't mind; it was up to Yun Zijin to decide.
The doctor's movements were quick and skilled. After plucking a few strands of hair, he placed them in a sample container. "The test results will be ready in about half an hour. Please wait patiently."
Since this was the Xia family's hospital, there was no need to wait in line, and the results would be expedited.
"Alright, I've cooperated with your request and taken the paternity test. If there's nothing else, I'll be leaving now," said Yun Zijin.
At this moment, she just wanted to go home, throw herself onto her bed, and sleep soundly.
Xia Zhengguang watched as Yun Zijin turned to leave. He wanted to say something but was stopped by Xia Zhiyun.
"Dad, Zijin is still distant from us. Let's just wait until the paternity test results come out before we say anything else."
In Xia Zhiyun's opinion, if the test confirmed that Yun Zijin was indeed a Xia family daughter, she would return to the Xia family sooner or later. After all, the Xia family could provide her with resources she could never obtain on her own.
"Don't tell your mother and sister about this yet. Wait until the results are in," Xia Zhengguang said. His wife adored Xia Jiaojiao like the apple of her eye. She would be devastated to learn that Jiaojiao wasn't their biological daughter.
Besides, they had raised Jiaojiao for twenty-one years, and their feelings for her ran deep. They couldn't simply discard them. He hoped that once Yun Zijin returned to the Xia family, the two sisters could coexist peacefully.
Xia Zhengguang had good intentions, but he never considered whether Yun Zijin would be willing to return to the Xia family or whether Xia Jiaojiao would willingly accept this new reality.
Meanwhile, after leaving Kant Hospital, Yun Zijin took a taxi directly back to her rental apartment.
She called her landlady and explained that she had saved money to buy a house and would be moving out this month. She wouldn't renew the lease next month.
Although the landlady felt sorry to see her go, she sincerely wished Yun Zijin well and hoped everything would work out for her. She even transferred the 2,000 yuan deposit that Yun Zijin had given her back into Yun Zijin's account.
Yun Zijin accepted it happily and then cooked dinner in her small kitchen. Since she had to work the next day, she washed up early and went to bed, sleeping soundly through the night.

[Task Issued: Please spend 4,000,000.00 yuan before midnight tonight. Task reward: To be unlocked]
At 6 a.m., Yun Zijin was awakened by the system's voice announcing another spending task. Seeing that today's consumption target was four million, she felt numb. Luckily, she had until midnight, so she could go shopping at Jinsheng Shopping Mall after work.
For now, the most important thing was to have breakfast and go to work!
Even though she had more money now, she still took the subway to work. Taking a taxi during the morning rush hour would only get her stuck in traffic jams. After finishing breakfast at home, she trotted to the subway station, got on with the crowd, and made her way to her stop.
The morning rush hour in the capital's subway was nothing new; she was squeezed in like a pancake. After leaving the station, she breathed a sigh of relief and then headed to Dingsi Building, where her company was located. She queued up to take the elevator to the 20th floor and clocked in for work.
"Knock, knock!"
Just as she sat down at her workstation, the general manager appeared at the department door. "Yun Zijin, come to my office."
Puzzled, Yun Zijin looked at her colleague, Sang Ying. Sang Ying shrugged, indicating she didn't know what was going on.
Although she was curious, she had to follow orders. Once at the general manager's office, Yun Zijin knocked on the door.
"Come in."
Upon entering, she saw Xia Zhiyun sitting on the sofa. The general manager was nowhere to be seen. It was clear that he had used the general manager's authority to summon her here.
"Boss Xia is quite resourceful," she said sarcastically. "You found my home and now my workplace. What do you want?"
"I did some research," Xia Zhiyun said, pushing a file folder toward her. "These are the results. Take a look."
Inside was the DNA paternity test report. Scanning it quickly, she saw that the probability of a father-daughter relationship with Xia Zhengguang was 99.99%.
"I know the result," said Yun Zijin, placing the folder down. "But as I said before, I have no desire to return to the Xia family. My life is fine as it is. Your presence isn't something I find particularly delightful."
She was no longer a little girl longing for parents; she could live well on her own.
Xia Zhiyun didn't know what to say. He hoped she would return to the Xia family and complete their reunion, but she clearly didn't feel the same way.
"You are my sister—that's an indisputable fact," he said. "The Xia family's bloodline can't remain outside. I'll assume you're not ready to accept this new identity yet. I'll give you one week to adjust your mindset. After that, I hope you'll come home with me to the Xia family."
Although he felt sympathy for her hardships, as the heir to the Xia Group, he was used to giving orders, not receiving refusals. Her reluctance might have been novel at first, but it was wearing thin.
After issuing his ultimatum, Xia Zhiyun left the general manager's office, leaving Yun Zijin behind.
"Uh... Miss Yun?" The general manager had returned at some point and noticed her distraction.
"Sorry, General Manager, I was distracted. I'll leave now."
Embarrassed, she quickly left the office and returned to her workstation.
She had no intention of going back to the Xia family, but Xia Zhiyun was adamant. With her current resources—a villa and four million yuan—she was still no match for the Xia family's influence. She had to think of a plan.
"What's wrong, Zijin? You've been down ever since you came back from the general manager's office. Did something happen?" asked Sang Ying, noticing her mood.
"It's nothing. I'm just thinking things through," said Yun Zijin. "Sister Ying, don't worry. I'm fine."
Finally, after work, she said goodbye to Sang Ying and headed straight to Jinsheng Shopping Mall.
However, this time she didn't go to the luxury floors but instead to the 12th-floor food court. Before going on another big shopping spree, she had to take care of her stomach first!
With money in her pocket, she walked more confidently. She chose a Chinese restaurant with a warm and cozy atmosphere. Following her usual habit, she took photos of the dishes before eating, making sure she had enough shots to fill a nine-picture grid on social media.
Only after confirming she had enough pictures did she put down her phone and start enjoying her meal.
