Chapter 12: No One Believes the Truth
"Resign? Are you serious?"
Sang Ying didn't expect that Yun Zijin would suddenly resign. They got along well, and she hadn't heard of any conflicts.
"Of course I'm serious. I'm writing my resignation letter now."
As she spoke, Yun Zijin sat down at her workstation, opened a Word document, and began drafting her letter.
"I'll hand over all the work I have to you. It's not much anyway."
Their company is a design firm focused on taking orders and producing design drawings. Yun Zijin's specialty is garden design.
"That's not good. You have to wait until your resignation is approved before handing over your work. Who you pass it to depends on the supervisor's decision."
The more orders you take, the higher your commission. Sang Ying feared that if Zijin gave all her orders directly to her, it might cause gossip.
"It's okay. If you think it's inappropriate, I'll ask the supervisor."
Yun Zijin continued typing her resignation letter as she spoke.
Ten minutes later, she sent the resignation letter to her supervisor through the company's OA system. Then she began organizing her pending tasks: those not yet started, those in progress, and those awaiting revisions. She categorized them neatly.
Before long, the supervisor called her to the office.
"Yesterday, I asked you to think about it carefully. Is this your final decision?"
The supervisor opened the resignation letter she had sent.
"Yes, I've thought it through, and I'm certain I want to resign."
"Can you tell me why? As far as I know, you get along well with your colleagues."
The supervisor valued her ability and was reluctant to let such talent go.
"I saved an old man out of kindness. He had no family, and after he passed away, he left me all his property. Now I can live comfortably on rent, and I need time to adjust to managing such a large sum of money. I don't want to delay the company's projects, so I'm resigning."
The supervisor's expression said it all: "Do you think I'll believe that?"
But regardless of whether he believed her, Zijin had made up her mind. Being an intern, she could leave as soon as she handed over her work—no need to wait a month.
The supervisor wanted to persuade her to stay, but seeing her determination, he had no choice but to approve.
"Alright, fine. Hand over your work and leave. At least I won't have to worry about you anymore."
He felt heartbroken losing a promising employee so quickly.
"Thank you for everything, Supervisor! You're a good person. After I hand over my work, I'll treat everyone to afternoon tea. Anything they want!"
Zijin gave the supervisor a figurative "good guy" card and offered to treat the whole team.
"Just hurry up and hand over your work!"
The supervisor said, annoyed.
Zijin left the office happily, even kindly closing the door behind her.
"How did it go?"
Sang Ying immediately approached when she saw Zijin return.
"No problem! After I finish handing over my work, I'll go to the finance department and collect my salary."
Zijin picked up the tasks she had organized. "Here are the orders I haven't completed. I've marked all precautions with sticky notes. Sister Ying, you can pick what you like and help me distribute the rest to others. Also, I'm treating everyone to afternoon tea later, so I'll trouble you to help me organize it!"
Although Zijin was well-liked, she was still an intern, and it was easier for an experienced employee like Sang Ying to handle arrangements.
Sang Ying made an "OK" gesture. "Don't worry, I'll get it done!"
She quickly chose the orders she wanted, then privately messaged a few friendly colleagues to pick from the remaining tasks. Next, she posted a screenshot of Bawang Cha Ji's menu in their internal group chat—without any managers—announcing that Zijin was treating, and started a group order.
"All done!" said Sang Ying.
"Thank you, Sister Ying!"
Zijin hugged her gratefully.
"By the way, why are you suddenly resigning?"
Sang Ying had wanted to ask for a while.
"Hehe… If I said I got rich overnight and don't want to work anymore, would you believe me?"
Zijin was telling the truth, but she doubted anyone would believe it.
Sang Ying looked at her as if to say, "Do you think I'm stupid?"
"See, I'm telling the truth, but you don't believe me."
Zijin shrugged. "Let's see what everyone ordered. I'll place the orders now."
She took out her phone, opened a food delivery app, and began placing orders based on the list.
"Why did you suddenly think of treating us to afternoon tea? After all this time, last month's salary must be mostly gone, right?"
Sang Ying couldn't understand why a previously frugal Zijin had suddenly become so lavish. It was as if she didn't care about money anymore.
"I told you, I got rich overnight!"
Zijin showed her the Piaget LIMELIGHT GALA series diamond-set women's watch on her wrist.
"Your watch is very pretty. What brand is it? I'll check it out next time."
Sang Ying didn't catch her point.
Zijin: …
"I bought it at Jinsheng Shopping Mall across the street. It's a Piaget women's watch."
"Oh, Jinsheng Shopping Mall… maybe I'll…"
She paused, realizing that Jinsheng Shopping Mall was an upscale place she'd never dare enter.
Only now did Sang Ying really look at Zijin's outfit: a Chanel-style suit, Valentino ONE STUD patent leather heels, a Piaget watch, and a Hermès silk scarf. The bag she carried today also looked like a genuine HER BAG from Hermès.
"Y-You're so secretive!"
Sang Ying almost screamed. This outfit alone could buy a small apartment in a second- or third-tier city. She was truly shocked.
"I told you I got rich overnight, but you didn't believe me!"
"I believe it! I'll believe whatever you say from now on!"
Sang Ying's own living conditions were decent, but she wouldn't spend so lavishly on luxury items. She'd rather use that money to eat a good meal.
"So, what are your plans after you resign?"
Although Zijin claimed to be rich now, Sang Ying still felt a woman should have a career. Otherwise, she'd be wasting her time at home.
"I'll rest for a while first."
Zijin wasn't sure if the system would assign daily spending tasks. She needed to observe for a while before deciding her next steps.
