Chapter 58: Why Are You Running So Fast?
Chapter 58: Why Are You Running So Fast?
Nie Qing was at the mid-Nascent Soul stage, while Lan Caidie was at the early Nascent Soul stage. Facing a late-Nascent Soul ghost cultivator, they should have been able to handle it.
The problem was the dozens of other vengeful spirits surrounding them, glaring menacingly. The situation was far from favorable.
“Damn it! Junior Brother, run! I don’t have time to protect you anymore!” Nie Qing shouted through gritted teeth.
Lan Caidie couldn’t help but laugh bitterly at this. She muttered, “Senior Sister, let’s focus on saving ourselves first before we’re all doomed.”
After saying this, she didn’t waste any more words. She brandished a long blade and slashed at the vengeful spirits approaching her, reducing them to dust.
However, the hulking ghost cultivator, now fully intelligent, was enraged by this. “These are my brothers and sisters! How dare you harm them!”
He immediately charged forward, throwing a powerful punch straight at Lan Caidie’s face!
Clang!
At the critical moment, Lan Caidie raised her blade to block the attack, the impact producing a deafening metallic clang.
Her expression twisted in pain as she shouted to Nie Qing, “Senior Sister, help me!”
Nie Qing didn’t need to be told. She stepped forward, summoning her signature weapon—a phoenix-feather spear.
With the speed of a dragon, she thrust the spear toward the ghost cultivator’s head.
“Trying to kill me?”
The hulking ghost cultivator swung its massive hand, forcefully deflecting the phoenix-feather spear. Nie Qing was thrown back several steps, nearly falling to the ground.
Lan Caidie seized the opportunity to retreat, gasping, “I didn’t expect the vengeful spirits on the third floor to be this terrifying.”
A trickle of blood had already appeared at the corner of her mouth, a result of the shockwave from the ghost cultivator’s punch.
Just that single strike had nearly knocked her out. It was clear just how powerful this hulking ghost cultivator was.
“At least late-Nascent Soul stage!”
“Damn it!” Nie Qing also sensed the opponent’s strength, her expression grim.
Were the vengeful spirits in the Slaughter Tower always this terrifying?
If the third floor had spirits at the late-Nascent Soul stage, it was hard to imagine what kind of monstrosities might exist on the ninth floor.
No wonder even their master, Luo Jiuyan, couldn’t fully control this treasure.
It seemed that the tower had undergone drastic changes.
“What do we do?”
In the brief moment of respite, the two exchanged glances.
A late-Nascent Soul vengeful spirit wasn’t something they couldn’t handle.
After all, they were disciples of Luo Jiuyan, the pinnacle of the demonic path, and were capable of fighting above their level.
However, the dozens of Golden Core-stage vengeful spirits closing in around them were a serious threat.
Not to mention, there was still a Golden Core-stage “deadweight” behind them!
“Junior Brother, run! Didn’t I tell you to run?!”
At this point, Nie Qing noticed that Ye Shu hadn’t moved from his spot. In fact, he hadn’t taken a single step away and was instead carefully observing the battlefield.
She was furious!
Was this guy really ignoring her words?
How utterly infuriating.
“Idiot!”
Lan Caidie, seeing Ye Shu still there amid the chaos, was equally exasperated.
Although she did have some grievances with him, they were still fellow disciples. She didn’t want him dead. If Ye Shu had shown even a little intelligence, she might have felt some relief.
But his refusal to leave was practically asking for death.
The only word that came to mind was: utterly foolish!
However, Ye Shu’s next words left them completely baffled: “Senior Sisters, you two run! I’ll hold them off!”
With that, he put away his small stool, drew his gleaming Great Silver Sword, and eagerly stepped forward.
His actions left the two women stunned!
“Are you insane? Why are you getting involved?!”
They couldn’t even describe their shock at this moment.
But Ye Shu acted as if he hadn’t heard them. Gripping the Great Silver Sword, he flew forward, deliberately circling around to avoid their interference.
“What are you doing? Get back here!”
Nie Qing’s eyes widened as she roared in anger.
She wanted to stop Ye Shu’s reckless advance, but with the hulking ghost cultivator nearby, she didn’t dare act carelessly.
“Senior Sister, if he wants to die, let him!” Lan Caidie snapped, her voice filled with frustration.
“I…”
Despite her words, Nie Qing couldn’t just stand by and watch. She gripped her own wooden puppet, a life-saving treasure, hesitating to act as Ye Shu sped forward.
But Ye Shu didn’t give her the chance. Moving with incredible speed, he slashed through two vengeful spirits blocking his path, absorbing their energy, and then charged straight toward the hulking ghost cultivator, stopping just two meters away.
The ghost cultivator’s overwhelming killing intent surged toward him, but under the radiance of the Creation Art, Ye Shu’s handsome face remained fearless as he stared directly at the creature.
“Hah, this little brat dares to stand before me?”
The hulking ghost cultivator let out a booming laugh, foul-smelling blood spraying from its mouth.
He had inherited the intelligence and memories of the corpse it once was and knew that the person before it was here to kill it and absorb its energy.
There was no room for mercy between them.
It extended its hand, revealing sharp claws, and swung them toward Ye Shu’s face with terrifying force.
“Use your puppet!”
Nie Qing, seeing this, knew she couldn’t intervene in time. She could only hope that Ye Shu would use the life-saving puppet at the last moment to block the attack.
“He’s not going to make it!”
Lan Caidie gasped.
The speed of the attack was so fast that even she, a Nascent Soul cultivator, doubted she could dodge it.
She could only hope that Ye Shu would crush the puppet at the last second to save himself.
However, to their utter astonishment, Ye Shu made no move to use any treasure.
From beginning to end, he kept his eyes locked on the hulking ghost cultivator.
“It’s over!”
The two women’s hearts sank.
In that moment, they closed their eyes, unable to bear the sight of Ye Shu’s handsome face being reduced to a bloody mess.
Bang!
A deafening metallic clash rang out.
But there was no sound of flesh being torn apart.
When they opened their eyes, they saw Ye Shu holding his Great Silver Sword, its blade pulsing with the Creation Art’s light as it collided with the ghost cultivator’s claws, producing an ear-piercing screech.
“A Golden Core cultivator blocked that attack?”
The two women were dumbfounded. This was beyond their comprehension.
Having just fought the hulking ghost cultivator, they knew how terrifying it was!
That strike was something even they might not have been able to withstand.
Nie Qing could have blocked it, but it would have come at a great cost.
Yet Ye Shu had done it effortlessly, and he seemed to be growing stronger.
“What’s going on? What did you do, you little brat, to drain me like this?!”
The hulking ghost cultivator was equally shocked. It could feel its energy being sapped through Ye Shu’s sword, flowing steadily into the young man.
The growing weakness in its body told that this was no illusion.
If this continued, it’d be sapped dry!
“Damn it!”
Realizing this, the ghost cultivator’s instincts told it to retreat. Using all its strength, it leaped back, trying to escape Ye Shu’s grasp.
After putting dozens of steps between them, it let out a sigh of relief, thinking it had finally shaken off the strange boy.
“Why are you running so fast?”
At that moment, a calm, almost amused voice reached its ears.
