Adventures of the last Wild Dragon

Chapter 133: Thirteen into Three

With darkness swiftly falling over the vast valley below silence still reigned after the awe inspiring appearance of the colossal snake from the middle lake.

It was as if no beast dared make a sound, for fear of displeasing the ruler of this domain. This was true for our party of 4 standing kilometres away on top of their cliff, the four of them stood in muted shock. The events that just transpired exceeding anything they ever expected to witness.

First they bit witness to a war between 12 separate beast lords and their assembled army's, then once the winners were decided a truly unfathomable exsistance made its presence know, re staking its claim over the valley before disappearing back beneath the surface of its domain.

It took several minutes for movement to once more take place down below. The two 'victorious' beast lords, from the west and east side of the center went about cleaning up their new domains, the lords that submitted to them being put to work.

The various beasts, knowing they stood no chance of opposing the new lords soon came under their control and began to process of settling back down and cleaning up the battlefield.

Whilst the rivers and lakes still ran crimson due to the sheer amount of blood shed that day, the overflowing current was beginning to disperse it downstream.

Eventually Violet spoke to her group. "T-that was… AMAZING!!!! Did you feel how powerful that snake was!? It didn't need to do anything! It just looked around and everything just submitted, I want to be able to do that one day! Ohh I want to fight that snake one day too! I bet he tastes amazing!"

Susan stumbled in place after hearing that outpouring of words from the excitable dragon, looking over at her with a mix of disbelief and horror at the prospect of wanting to fight such an existence. Rhyana was not much better, she had been utterly suppressed by that snake, even with how far away they were from it. Even the thought of wanting to challenge such a being was quite literally the last thing she would have ever imagined doing.

Whilst those two grappled with deciding if they should berate or bemoan Violet's recklessness, Luna simple snorted in amusement. "True I bet he does take pretty good, but I don't think either of us has any chance in even wounding such a beast, let alone kill it."

Violet just nodded at that. "True, true. But still, someday I want to fight it! Well maybe not in the water, still don't really want to fight underwater, but if it came out on land… well then Ilit could be fun! Ohh you could freeze the lake and force it to fight out of the water!"

Luna just shook her head, refusing to get drawn in deeper into her companions wild thoughts. Instead turning to regard the two stunned girls, who were currently staring at the two of them with complicated expressions on their faces. "Don't mind her, she gets excited when seeing strong things sometimes, besides she knows that she is currently no match for it so won't actually challenge it any time soon."

Strangely her words did not seem to reassure the other two, who still obviously had strong opinions about what Violet was still speaking out in the background. Shrugging her shoulders in defeat Luna just turned around and started looking for a spot to set up camp, deciding that they should remain up on the cliff tonight.

Soon finding a suitable spot Luna started assembling a fire and getting the camp site ready. Violet soon joined her and got out the furs for them to sit on before changing back into her humanoid form. They were eventually joined by the other two, but they still seemed to be somewhat shell shocked from either witnessing the war or Violet's words, either way Violet and Luna left them to their own devices content in each others company.

As the night passed by the rain began to pick up in intensity, ever since the rain first started it had remained at a near constant pace of light rain that never stopped. So for the rain to suddenly pick up in intensity had the girls slightly worried, thankfully nothing drastic seemed to have happened as the rain eventually plateaued, settling into a heavy downpour that lasted through the night.

Morning soon came with the rain returning back to its usual light drizzle, the girls would have preferred it to have stopped all together but it was at least preferable to the heavy downpour over the night.

They had a quick breakfast of leftover cooked snake, Violet had insisted on eating snake after witnessing the colossal one, much to Luna's amusement.

Exiting their campsite they once more returned to the cliff overlooking the vast valley below them. They beheld a drastically changed landscape.

Where before the land was split into 13 separate lakes, 6 on each side of the central one. Now they only beheld 3 lakes. The smaller outer lakes had merged overnight to form two massive lakes that dominated the landscape. They both clearly had plenty more room to grow, and likely would continue to do so, so long as the rain persisted.

Still to witness such a massive change to the landscape over a single night was quite something to see.

Taking in the new scenery the three once more fell into silence, unsure how to take this change. Still they knew that they could not stay idle forever.

It was Rhyana that actually made the suggestion on what to do. "I think we should just fly across the valley. I don't really want to get too close to them, and it would be quite the detour to go around them on foot. So long as we stay high we should not bother any of the beast lords as we pass."

Susan looked like she wanted to object, but paused with her mouth open and one hand raised, before reluctantly lowering the hand and closing her mouth in silence agreement. Violet was only too happy to agree and eager urged Luna to get on her back.

Once mounted upon their respective dragons the group took to the air. Rhyana turning south, clearly intending to avoid crossing directly over the central lake.

Violet had a different plan, speaking privately to Luna to share said plan. "Soooo, want to fly right over the middle lake and see if we can make out how big the big snake is?"

Luna gave a long look at her companion before slumping her shoulders and replying with a hint of defeated excitement in her voice. "Not really, but also yeah kind of."

With her companions acceptance Violet rushed forth. Aiming to cross right over the middle of the central lake, Rhyana did notice her movement but chose to not follow the crazy wild dragon and stayed on her original course.

Soon enough Violet and Luna were above the central lake, tilting her flight to allow Luna to see down easier the duo flew in a slow circle above the waters. They gazed down at the emerald depths, eager to try and see any movement or hint of the colossus that lay beneath the surface.

Saddly they could not spot anything from up high, and unwilling to get any lower Violet was forced to abandon her goal of spotting the snake and resume her flight across the valley. However, as she turned to go she felt a mental connection lock onto her, a voice that echoed with ages long past, deep and feminine, powerful beyond description and wise beyond ages spoke into her mind.

"I see you Wild One, I wish you luck on your quest and offer a warning in passing. Be wary of that which dwells below, should you find yourself beset by their ilk, search out the largest lake to the east. My sister Natuish rules their and she will aid you in removing any corruption that follows. Tell her Slavina sent you."

As Violet took in the words spoken to her by what she can only imagine to be the colloidal snake below she tried to reply only to find that the mental bridge had been severed shortly after the final words had been spoken. She tried to reestablish a link of her own but found nothing. Slightly perturbed by the words spoken to her by the ancient and powerful snake she flew onwards, curious to see if she will need to find that sister the voice spoke off.
