Chapter 103: Step and Claw
Happy with how she utilised her first 3 upgrade tokens Violet's gaze turns towards the last two of her skills that need upgrading.
Void Step and Void Claw. They are both great skills as far as Violet is concerned. Void Step provides her with incredible manoeuvrability, letting her quickly dodge incoming attacks or quickly attack a foe from an unexpected angle. The amount of times that she has either saved her own hide using it or ended a fight in a decisive way is innumerable.
She would honestly go as far as saying that it is one of the skills that defines how she fights.
Then add on how Luna somehow got access to that skill when she upgraded her class and the utility of it only increases. Being able to fly with Luna and still be able to use her short range teleport is great! Granted they haven't gotten a chance to utilise it all too much but that's more a case of circumstance than willingness to try it out.
Void Claw on the other hand is good, but Violet has know that it is quite limited for a while now. When compared to Luna's skill that costs her in a layer of ice, her own coating skill is slightly lacking. It only enhances her attack power, which whilst useful and definitely allows her to tackle much tougher foes in mele than she may otherwise be able to take down. She feels like the skill could be so much more.
Perhaps it could become a thin coating across her entire body, it could soak up some magical attacks that way. Or it could go a more physical route, providing greater enhancements to her attacks, maybe extended range on her claws?
Regardless of what options she is provided she is sure that she will get some great use out of the skill in the future!
Without waiting any more than necessary Violet uses her 4th upgrade token.
[Upgrade token used on skill - Void Step.
Upgrade option available:
- Void Dash
- Blink
- Void Procession]
Three options again this time, Violet was curious as to why one of the options seemed to have lost the void moniker but chose to start from the first option and work her way down.
Void Dash seemed to be all about utilising multiple quick teleports in a row. Whilst she could already do that for the most part their was a slight cooldown before she could utilise void step after using it. Whilst it was only around a second that did sometimes limit her movement options in a fight.
This upgrade seemed to entirely negate that cooldown. It did however reduce the total distance that she could move in a single jump but not by a huge amount. When taken with the fact she could just teleport right away after doing one it negated that reduced distance as an issue quite well. Overall quite a solid first option.
Blink was slightly odd but could potentially be very useful if used in the right way. It disregarded the entire concept of void which was curious in and of itself. But what truly made it stand out was the new feature it added. Where previously she had to move some distance and the movement would be instantaneous. With blink she could control how long that movement took, and if she even needed to move at all.
For example with blink she could opt to disappear for a second or two, avoiding whatever attack was heading her way, then reappear in the exact same spot. It was definitely quite a niche ability but Violet could definitely see the use for it.
The last option Void Procession was both simple and extremely attractive. It kept all of the same limits and benefits of Void Step, yet it added a singular feature. This being the ability to bring others along with her when she teleported. Granted that seemed to cost more mana than just going by herself but still, it could be very useful!
But now she had to decide what option she wanted. Faster but shorted jumps, the ability to have brief moments of invulnerability or a group teleport. Violet once more thought deeply about this, a decisive 6 seconds this time before coming to a decision.
[Skill - Void Step lvl 20(MAX) - upgrades to - Blink lvl 1]
Really the deciding factor came from the basic fact that this gave her the option to completely avoid any singular attack if timed right! She generally didn't find that the cooldown was much of an issue and whilst a group teleport would be nice, she felt that was not needed all that often, plus the mana costs seemed like they could grow exponentially out of control depending on how many she moved with her.
Happy with that she moved onto her last skill to upgrade.
[Upgrade token used on skill - Void Claw.
Upgrade option available:
- Enhanced Void Claw
- Void Cloak]
Only two options this time it seemed, and quite simple options indeed. The first seemed to just double down on the offensive options, extending the length of the void claws and giving her a bit of additional range when swiping with them. This was both simple yet could be quite effective as she would be able to deal some serious damage with her claws with that upgrade.
Void Cloak however, seemed to keep the same functions of her existing void claw, yet now added an element of defense to the skill. She entire body would now be coated in a thin layer of void, it would act as a second layer of defence, absorbing some of the impact of both physical and magical attacks. The defence wouldn't be overpowering, but should be enough to shrug off one or two decent blows.
So quite simple options really. Either she could focus on improving her physical attacks or adding an additional layer of defense.
This time she didn't have to think too hard about what option she wanted to go for, and quite quickly chose which option to go for.
[Skill - Void Claw lvl 20(MAX) - upgrades to - Void Cloak lvl 1]
Violet's reasoning was quite simple really, she felt that she already had plenty of attacking options, and with her two newly upgraded Void Barrage and Piercing Void Spear. She really didn't need a way to deal more damage. So she opted for a way to avoid taking damage instead.
Now with all of her skills upgraded, she really could do with something to fight to test out all of her new and improved skills!
However, she then paused as she realised something potentially quite important… wasn't she going to maybe save one of the tokens for a later skill instead of just rushing ahead and using them all in one go… "opsies."
