Chapter 28: 27. Training
Author's note
Hey guys, author here! Sorry for not uploading chapters in a while. Honestly, I just wasn't feeling great about writing this fanfic, and I didn't want to put out bad chapters. So, I decided to wait until I actually felt like writing again.
Oh, and one more thing! There's gonna be a small change—thoughts or internal monologues will now be in italics to make them easier to read.

(Teen Ogre POV)
'Mhhmm.' I woke up; it was a new day, and today was the day Master would teach me some moves. 'I hope it will help me defeat my grandfather.' I smiled cheekily. 'Well, time for me to go.' I took my weapon, and as instructed, I hadn't eaten anything. 'Aaaaand time for departure.'
I slowly got to the training spot, and my Master was sitting on the rock again. "Good morning, Master. How have you been?" I couldn't help but smile. Master opened her eyes and looked at me. She only nodded.
"Normally. Let's start."
'Again, not wasting any time, as expected of Master.'
"Master, I have wondered, why do you sit cross-legged on the rock all the time?"
Master got in front of me. "Well, that's called meditation. But besides that, do you have your weapon?"
I nodded and showed her. "Yes, Master."
She only nodded. 'Ahhhh, as stoic as ever.'
A chill ran down my spine.
"And you haven't eaten?"
I nodded.
"Good. At least you won't throw up."
I looked at her. 'What does she mean?'
"Then give me your stance."
I listened and assumed my stance, pulling my katana right beside my ear, pointing it at the sky. Then, like a blur, she disappeared.
'Huh? Where is...'
Suddenly, I felt pain in my stomach. I saw her fist embedded there. I coughed up saliva and was sent straight into a tree. Falling to the ground, I felt myself fading into unconsciousness, but then a light enveloped me.
"Your first training was to build your body. This training will teach you how to take a hit," she said emotionlessly.
'Ahhh, shit.'
Before I could finish my thought, I was punched again. After the second punch, I lay on the ground. 'So that's why no food...' Master healed me again. 'I am doomed.' Just as I thought that, I saw a fist in front of my face.
Time Skip
By the end of the day, even though I was healed, I looked lifeless. 'This is hell.' Master got back on the rock.
"You should return to your home."
"Yes, Master."
I got myself up, and before I left, I felt a hand on my shoulder.
"Remember, tomorrow morning, no eating."
'Why did I get myself into this? I want to train with my grandfather again.'
I cried internally. 'Well, if I survive this, I will be strong.' I couldn't deny that the training was making me stronger.
When I got back to the village, my mother was standing in front of the house, arms crossed.
"Where were you?"
I just smiled. "With my friends, Mother."
She looked at me suspiciously. "You've been hanging out with your friends too much, don't you think?"
I started to sweat. 'Well, I don't even hang out with friends that much—probably once a month?' Of course, I looked suspicious.
I exhaled and smiled at her. "Of course."
'I don't want them to know about Master.' I just went inside the house.
Next Day
I lay on the ground. "It hurts."
I felt pain, but there was no healing. I looked at Master.
'Huh? She didn't heal me.'
"Uhmm, Master, you haven't healed me."
She just looked at me. "Of course I haven't. From today, I will only heal you at the end of our training."
I started to sweat. "Please be gentle with me."
When I said that, I saw a fist closing in on my face.
'Goddammit.'
3rd POV
Acheron was watching as the teen ogre was leaving. 'He is weak, too weak.' She closed her eyes. 'I can't even do normal training with him.'
She started to meditate. Meditation was also a kind of relief for Acheron. Before, it was like training for her. But now, it was more of a relaxation.
'If he dies in the next training—that means he's not worth my time teaching him.'
It might have seemed cold, but Acheron didn't attach herself to anyone, except for a select few who could at least avoid dying of old age. Her broken flow of time made this moment feel fleeting.
'If the teen survives the next training—or rather, test—I will consider taking him as a real disciple.'
Teen POV
I got home. 'Master seems cold, but I believe that somewhere inside, she is a kind person.'
I lay on the bed, trying to sleep. 'Well, tomorrow I will have to endure more pain.'
Sigh
Slowly, I drifted to sleep.
Next Day
As usual, I encountered Master with her cold face. The painful beating I received was the same, but there was one difference.
'It's a little bearable. I bet she's holding back.'
Looking beaten up, I stared at Master.
'I would have liked it if she held back even more.'
"No time to slack off. Let's continue."
I could do nothing but cry. After another day of beatings, I went back to the village.
'My parents and grandfather are getting more suspicious of me.'
I snuck into my room through the window.
'Well, I've been avoiding training with Grandfather for a while.'
I fell asleep.
The next morning, I woke up to find my mother sitting on the floor.
"What?" I was startled.
"My son, I know what you've been doing behind our backs."
I gulped and started fidgeting. "Wh-what are you talking about, Mother?"
She placed a hand on her cheek. "Such a cruel son I have, not telling us such an important thing." Then she looked sad.
"So, who is she?"
I became even more anxious. "I don't know what you're talking about."
She started to shed fake tears.
"My son has grown up so fast, found a female mate, and didn't tell his parents. What a cruel son I have."
"Huh?"
