Chapter 65: Evil God
Today marks the fourth day Sasa has returned to Gass City. She is following the professor's instructions, perusing the library collection, searching for descriptions of the Abyss in the Elf World.
In fact, Sasa has already found some.
While Blue Star People call it 'Abyss,' elves often refer to it as 'Secret Realm.'
Though the Secret Realm in the Elf World is as dangerous as the Abyss on Blue Star, there, one only needs magic power to shape matter. For elves, the Secret Realm is like a resource site, akin to veins of minerals and water sources.
Surprisingly, despite the Elf World having never severed its connection with the Secret Realm since ancient times, there are currently only over fifty Secret Realms.
This number is multiple times that of Blue Star, yet the Elf World has maintained connectivity with its Secret Realms, unlike Blue Star which severed its connection.
After so many years, only over fifty Secret Realms exist?
In the end, Sasa found the answer in the library's collection.
It turns out that each Secret Realm has a different existence period. Even without hunting the Master of the Secret Realm to completely obliterate it, over time, the Secret Realm itself will gradually collapse.
The larger the internal space of the Secret Realm, the faster it collapses.
In the history of the Elf World, there were two Secret Realms with internal spaces as vast as the Elf World itself; both collapsed within ten years.
It was here that Sasa saw the elves' name for their world, 'Alfheim,' identical to the name for the Elven World in Norse mythology.
If Alfheim truly exists, does that mean the other nine realms are also real?
Sasa pondered this for a while and soon put these scattered thoughts aside, continuing to read the books.
Elves have advanced technologically over many years, for instance, they can capture the Master of a Secret Realm, transferring its identity to a specific elf, thereby allowing the elf to control the whole Secret Realm.
However, the consequences of doing so are severe—if the Secret Realm collapses, the elf who is the Master of the Secret Realm will also perish.
Fortunately, they later developed a technology to transfer the identity of the Master of the Secret Realm back onto demons, so now, all Secret Realms in Alfheim are under the control of elves.
Upon reading this, Sasa couldn't help but gasp.
If humans could acquire this technology...
If humans could transform the Abyss into their own resource site, they might explore outward, fly to space again, rekindling the glorious era lost a decade ago.
The current situation in Alfheim further strengthened Sasa's belief that ancient Blue Star Civilization did not choose to sever its connection with the Abyss due to the persecution of the Abyss. According to the elves, the ancient Blue Star Civilization was stronger than the elves, its influence spanning several nearby worlds, an incredibly powerful race. It could not possibly sever contact with the Abyss merely due to invasion; there must be deeper reasons.
Sasa continued to delve into the library's collection, seeking the origin of the Abyss.
Regrettably, even though elves have mastered the Secret Realm, they still have not found its origin.
However, Sasa detected some oblique words in those library texts, sensing some hidden existence.
In addition to demons, elves have encountered something they called 'Evil God.'
The reason for such naming is due to the formidable strength and eerie abilities of this existence, which can absolutely be referred to as a 'God.'
In the books, elves described their strongest as 'under the God,' 'near-God,' while they dubbed that powerful existence as 'God,' showcasing its might.
Elves have not faced this powerful existence directly; otherwise, Alfheim could not have persisted to the present.
They only glimpsed a side of the Evil God while mastering a Secret Realm, promptly severing the realm's connection with Alfheim, banishing the Evil God. Otherwise, no one knows what Alfheim would look like now.
Reading the descriptions in the book, Sasa couldn't help but think of the Forbidden Demon Abyss's prototype planet.
An exceedingly terrifying incident occurred on that planet, causing humans to regress into beasts, losing all rationality.
If there were no external forces, such an event would not have happened on that planet.
It's likely that it was caused by that egg-shaped object which fell from beyond the sky and eventually spawned powerful monsters.
Was the creature that appeared in the end what the book describes as the 'Evil God'?
Contemplating this, Sasa closed the book and left the library to find the Lord of Gass City.
In Alfheim, a city's lord is the most learned elf in the territory, so the Lord of Gass City should know more.
The Gass City lord was discussing industrialization matters with his mansion employees. Upon noticing Sasa's presence, he invited her to join the meeting.
Feeling somewhat guilty, Sasa joined the meeting, offering the Lord of Gass City many suggestions.
Sasa's recommendations were indeed beneficial, aligning well with industrialization standards. However, after hearing, the Lord of Gass City frowned slightly.
As the most knowledgeable elf in Gass City, the city lord clearly understands the temperament of the civilians under his rule. To initiate Alfheim's industrialization, the elf culture itself is the greatest obstacle.
The meeting concluded with the Lord of Gass City sighing repeatedly.
It was then that Sasa posed the questions she had always intended to ask the city lord, which was the primary reason for her visit.
"Evil God?"
Upon naming such a powerful existence, the Lord of Gass City became very serious.
He pondered for a while before speaking, "I know little about such existence, and even the entirety of Alfheim has limited knowledge about the Evil God. Elves who have seen the Evil God eventually went mad, and the books documenting the Evil God now were compiled from the occasional sane words of those madmen."
"When I was young, I went to the academy and saw some books about the Evil God in the library there. In those books, the madmen were extremely frightened of the Evil God. Once they recalled it, they would rapidly return to insanity. As we understand now, the Evil God appears to have a strong mental infection ability, easily impacting elves' spirits. I fear humans are affected similarly. There was an elf who tried to sketch the Evil God's appearance based on a madman's description, but the elf went insane himself, so we destroyed all descriptions linking to the Evil God's likeness..."
Sasa widened her eyes and abruptly interrupted the Lord of Gass City's statement, "Wait, Lord, are you saying the Evil God has meme infection capability?"
Though unsure of what 'meme infection' means, the Lord of Gass City understood what Sasa wanted to convey and nodded slightly, "Exactly."
Sasa stood frozen.
Seconds later, she swiftly bade farewell to the Lord of Gass City, running to find Helena's Hunter stationed in Gass City.
Helena had left to protect the convoy, but before departing, she arranged for a hunter to stay in Gass City to protect Sasa.
Sasa found the hunter and immediately asked to leave Alfheim.
If what Yan Luo saw in that memory was an Evil God, it is highly likely to induce madness in the scientists researching the Forbidden Demon Abyss.
The situation is urgent, and Sasa cannot wait for Helena to return.
Feeling a bit troubled, the hunter left behind by Helena listened to Sasa's explanation and promptly took her away from Gass City.
The Lord of Gass City, upon receiving news of Sasa's departure, was initially puzzled but his expression soon grew solemn.
Remembering Sasa's inquiry about the Evil God before leaving hastily, could it imply humans in Midgard contacted the Evil God?
Sasa sat in the armored vehicle and hadn't reached the designated location when encountering a city-breaking level demon.
The Hunter left by Helena to protect Sasa in Gass City was merely Low-level Hunter Sequence 4, and the vehicle was not equipped with heavy weaponry, incapable of dealing with the city-breaking level demon.
Therefore, Sasa gritted her teeth and directly used the Jade to activate a spatial channel.
The armored vehicle passed through the spatial channel, vanishing before the city-breaking level demon.
As for the landing spot on the other side of the spatial channel, just as Yan Luo anticipated, it wasn't the place where they entered Alfheim.
Luckily, still within the Dark Forest range, signal from towers could be received, indicating proximity to the Abyss Entrance.
Sasa breathed a sigh of relief, instructing the hunter to drive over; she needed to return to Blue Star and inform the professors of what she knew.
