Chapter 143. Becoming a Celebrity? The Fought-Over-by-Big-Shots Kind (19)
“Qingman, what’s wrong?”
Shen Wan was startled when Fu Qingman suddenly braked. Fortunately, there were no cars around at that moment. Otherwise, it could have been dangerous.
“Are you feeling unwell? Let me drive. We were lucky there were no cars behind us. Don’t drive when you’re not feeling well in the future. What if something dangerous happens?”
Fu Qingman’s heart was still racing, especially hearing Shen Wan’s concerned words. Her heart melted unconsciously.
What was happening to her?
“Pull over to the side quickly.”
“Get out, I’ll drive.”
Shen Wan had already exited the car and was tapping on the driver’s window. “Look at you, didn’t you rest well? You’re spacing out after just a few words from me. That won’t do.”
Hearing Shen Wan’s words, Fu Qingman opened the door. Her body seemed to move on its own, shifting to the passenger seat. Shen Wan quickly finished her ice cream, tossed the trash, unwrapped a lollipop, and started the car.
Fu Qingman realized her current state wasn’t suitable for driving. Not only was her heart racing, but she felt hot all over, her face flushed.
When they arrived at the set, Shen Wan noticed Fu Qingman’s reddened face and frowned, reaching out to touch her forehead. “Qingman, your forehead is burning. Are you sick?”
“No, I’m fine. Just a bit warm.”
“I just felt it, and it’s not just a little warm,” Shen Wan said skeptically. “I should take you to the hospital. Illnesses must be treated. Small problems can become big if left untreated.”
“That’s not good… I have scenes to shoot soon.”
“Health comes first. I’ll call the director, book a restaurant for them, let them eat and have tea afterwards. I’ll even cover their karaoke expenses for the night. We’ll go to the hospital and get you treated. Isn’t acting just a hobby? Health is more important. I’ll cover all losses, so no one should complain, right?”
Fu Qingman was stunned. Could things be done this way? Taking her to the doctor and paying for the crew to have fun – at this point, surely no one would complain. But that’s not how money should be spent, no matter how much you have.
But Shen Wan was already calling the director. Listening to Shen Wan’s words, Fu Qingman touched her hot face. Surely it wasn’t that serious? Why did Shen Wan make it sound like she was on her deathbed?
“Qingman must have a high fever. Her face is very hot and won’t cool down. Director, I’ve transferred the money to you. Take everyone out to have fun. I feel bad for delaying everyone, but since we can’t film anyway, why not relax a bit? Once Qingman’s better and everyone’s had fun, the filming mood will surely improve.”
After Shen Wan hung up, the director and crew members exchanged glances. He had put the call on speaker, so everyone had heard.
“Ahem… you all heard that,” the director said, opening a text message he’d just received. “Wan Wan has transferred the funds, asking me to treat you all to good food and relaxation until Qingman recovers. Any objections?”
“None, Director. If Qingman is sick, she should get better first. Even if she forces herself, her poor condition would greatly affect the results. It’s better to recover fully, then come back to film. With good spirits and performance, we might even get it in one take.”
“Right, and what if delaying treatment makes it worse?”
If these people weren’t already taking off their heavy costumes and happily bouncing into the makeup room to remove their makeup, the director might have believed their words were sincere.
Hmph, they just want to play and eat. They’ll get fat.
“See? The doctor said there’s nothing wrong with me,” Fu Qingman said after being thoroughly examined at the hospital. She was as healthy as an ox. “My face was red earlier just because I was hot. Let’s go back to the set and continue filming.”
She had calmed down now and understood her condition was definitely related to Shen Wan. She was just a step away from figuring out why. She decided to spend more time with Shen Wan recently, certain she’d eventually find out why she experienced these strange phenomena around her.
“We can’t go back to the set now. They’ve packed everything up,” Shen Wan handed her phone to Fu Qingman. “Look at my WeChat Moments. They seem to be enjoying their meal.”
Fu Qingman looked and saw various delicious foods, making her feel a bit hungry. “They’re really not holding back.”
“There’s more. The director rented a car and took them out to play. They’re not even in the city anymore.”
Fu Qingman gritted her teeth. “This director is really unreliable.”
“They were planning to come see you, but I thought it wasn’t a good idea and refused.” Did Shen Wan really not know whether Fu Qingman was sick or not?
If she initially thought Fu Qingman was ill, she had later realized that Fu Qingman wasn’t sick, but blushing and heart-racing because of her.
She suspected her wife must have imagined something strange in her mind to make her face so red.
Of course, she wouldn’t expose this.
Such a good opportunity to show off, she’d definitely play dumb, pretending to think the other was sick. Then, as an entertainment industry investment tycoon, she’d naturally find a way to ensure no one resented Fu Qingman for getting medical attention.
Throwing money at it was the most direct approach, very much in line with her tycoon style.
Not only did she send the crew elsewhere, but she also got to spend two days alone with her wife. Delightful.
“It’s good you refused. It would have been awkward if they came and saw I wasn’t sick.”
“Qingman, stay at your place for now. After all, in everyone’s eyes, you’re sick, and I’ll be taking care of you at your home.”
With such a compelling reason, Fu Qingman had no grounds to refuse. Besides, she seemed to want Shen Wan to stay at her place.
Back at home, she watched Shen Wan pull out her phone and heard her say, “Yes, we’ll be home for the next few days. Send the ingredients over regularly. Of course, you’ll be cooking the meals.”
Well, she’d probably called to hire chefs from a big hotel to cook for her. Fu Qingman didn’t object; food made by top chefs was undoubtedly delicious.
Feeling it wasn’t right to just eat and drink for free, she took out a card and handed it to Shen Wan. “Let me cover it this time. It doesn’t feel right to always eat at your expense.”
Shen Wan glanced at the card. “I have money.”
“That’s not the point.”
Before she could finish, Shen Wan had already pocketed the card. “Alright then, I’ll keep this card.”
Wife’s salary card, hehe!
188: He suspected Shen Wan was an idiot. What wife’s salary card? It was clearly pocket money from her wife.
“Then from now on, I’ll transfer my share to this card. How’s that? It doesn’t feel right to always let you pay.”
Shen Wan nodded with a smile, not refusing. “Sure, transfer it if you like. It’s all good.”
After all, they’d be family in the future. She was just taking her wife’s card in advance. No problem there.
Fu Qingman found Shen Wan’s behavior strange. Why was she so happy about it?
Regardless, the two spent three happy days at home before Fu Qingman “recovered.”
Upon receiving the news, the director quickly had the entire crew prepare to return to filming.
Later, everyone noticed that whenever Fu Qingman had any issues, Shen Wan would treat them to meals. When the weather got hot and conditions were tough, their tycoon Wan would dig into her own pocket to provide many benefits to the entire crew. Though they knew they were just along for the ride, they were truly happy to film with Shen Wan.
They might get scolded by the director daily, but the treatment was the best.
In this production, they were surprised to find no scheming or infighting. Even the few actresses who were slightly jealous of Shen Wan seemed to be currying favor with her. Shen Wan was generous, and even Leng Jiatong’s backer couldn’t have her removed. She’d even won the director’s favor.
They hadn’t missed how the director was especially kind to Shen Wan. There must be something going on. Anyway, Shen Wan was the big shot, so they’d just stick with her.
This big shot was particularly generous and didn’t make things difficult for them. She took filming seriously too. Meeting such a cooperative actor was indeed their luck.
“Qingman, aren’t you going to eat popsicles? Want me to bring you one? Tycoon Wan had people buy popsicles again.”
Fu Qingman shook her head. “I’m on my period.”
“Oh, is that so? I’m sorry, I didn’t know.”
“It’s alright.”
Fu Qingman didn’t mind these things. At this moment, Shen Wan brought over a cup of hot water and handed it to Fu Qingman. “Have some hot water.”
Fu Qingman saw her forehead covered in sweat and glanced at everyone else eating popsicles in the distance. “It’s so hot. Go have a popsicle. Don’t you like ice cream cones the most? That’s fine too. It’s just too hot, have something cool.”
“Never mind. If I eat in front of you, won’t it make you crave it? Let’s wait a couple of days until your period is over. Then we’ll go to the shop together and eat our fill.”
Fu Qingman felt conflicted. That warm current flowing through her heart and blood made her unsure of what to do.
“You’re always like this…” she said with a smile. “It makes me feel embarrassed.”
“Yeah, Wan Wan, you’re so good to Qingman. No wonder everyone says you’re close. I’m a bit jealous. Wan Wan, do you need more sisters?” an actress said enviously. “If not, how about a bestie? Or even a leg accessory, I’m flexible.”
“Wan Wan, should I just turn for you? Really, if anyone could make me turn, it’d be you. Being your little lover must be so blissful.”
As the actress spoke, she suddenly felt a chill in the air. “Never mind, I’m just joking, really. Wan Wan, don’t misunderstand. Actually, I’m straight as steel! If you’re still recruiting sisters, you can consider me.”
With that, the actress quickly ran off.
Fu Qingman withdrew her gaze, holding her cup. “How many is that now?”
“Don’t worry, even if they want to turn, I wouldn’t accept,” Shen Wan blinked her big eyes. “I don’t need more sisters or besties. And such a big accessory? I can’t afford that.”
Fu Qingman sighed in relief, murmuring, “Then do you need a little lover?”
“No.”
Fu Qingman felt a bit disappointed, gripping her cup tighter. “That’s right. You’re in the rising phase of your career. Don’t consider too much.”
“Actually, I prefer someone a bit older. Forget little lovers, a big lover would do. Someone older, prettier, like you… hmm, that’d be about right.”
Fu Qingman: “…”
