Back in the courtyard, I, as usual, took my position as the loner at the strongest spot and waited for the next class to begin. The rankings had been decided, and perhaps because I was at the very bottom, the condescending glances from my classmates were irritating.

With such pointless thoughts in mind, Eugene, the princess, Aria, the military woman, and the other main members gathered and entered the classroom. Everyone was talking amicably, and their strong bonds were palpable, which made the male students seethe with jealousy.

The male students seemed to be discussing Eugene’s romantic exploits with a mix of jealousy and admiration.

While I consoled the jealous male students in my mind, the military woman took her place at the podium, and at the same time, the chime rang.

“Alright, Jin Divinesword, try using [Body Enhancement] and [Magic Bullet],” she commanded.
“…Huh? Why me?” I asked.
“Because I decided so.” Nailed it.
Seriously, why me? I’ve been told by Mea to hide my magical talents, haven’t I?
But my opponent is the embodiment of irrationality. No matter what I say, it’s probably futile… and it’ll just make me more frustrated, so I’d better not say anything.
“Tch… Let mana gather in my hand—[Magic Bullet!]”
I reluctantly did as instructed and fired a [Magic Bullet] towards the military girl. Just for the record, I did it for safety reasons, not as retaliation for her hitting me earlier, okay?

I often use that tactic myself.

“Of course. So, are we done here? I’m not here to be an exhibition.”
“Yeah, you can sit down now. You’re nothing special. Now, Eugene, it’s your turn. Just like usual…?” she asked.
“Haha… Alright, got it, Lucia-nee-san. [Body Enhancement], [Magic Bullet] standby.”
“Wow! So you can not only cast spells without incantations but also manipulate magic! You’ve always been talented!” The military girl seemed dismissive of me and eager to impress Eugene.
Am I the only one seeing through this? As I looked around, I noticed someone observing the interactions between the main characters with an expression that seemed more exasperated than amused.
His name was… I think it was Rud. He was born into a count’s family and had some talent in magic, at least according to the game’s lore.
However, he was just another background character. Surprisingly, he didn’t look down on me and greeted me from time to time.
Rud and I exchanged glances, and in our silent conversation: (You… seem kind of pitiful.)
(Yeah, they totally used me as a stepping stone.)
(…How about we train together in magic sometime? I’ll treat you to something.)
(…I appreciate that…)
With that kind of eye contact, we managed to communicate, and we nodded to each other.
It might be the first time I’ve found someone I can relate to in this world. I wondered if I might actually make a friend. I was a bit excited about that as I half-listened to the farcical class.
By the way, when it got too noisy, I forced Eugene to cancel his magic. The look of confusion on his face at that moment had both of us bursting into laughter, needless to say. After school, we trained together.
