A Village Appeared on My Desktop

Chapter 217

Chapter 217 – Struggling (7)

“Uaaahhh!!”

The panicked leader wildly fired the handgun he was holding. The bullets flying from close range had the power to pierce through human bones and flesh with ease.

“Compared to a warrior’s sword, it’s pitiful firepower.”

However, the bullets from the handgun and the rifle bounced off her body without leaving a scratch. He froze as he watched the bullets intended for her bounce off her unflinching eyes, which weren’t even protected by armor.

Even the terrifying special zombie, known as the harbinger of fear and dread to the raiders, couldn’t compare to this.

“There’s no reason to show mercy.”

With a swing of her sword, she decapitated him in one swift motion. The one who led the raiders and struck terror into the hearts of other survivors was defeated so easily.

The sight of a human head flying through the air, spraying blood, couldn’t look any more insignificant.

“Run, run away!”

“It’s a monster! Take cover!”

The panicking raiders began to flee in unison, but Riena, who had already begun her judgment, didn’t show them any mercy.

With every slash of her sword, their bodies, along with the weapons they held, were sliced and fell to the ground, and with enough strength to crack the asphalt, she surged forth, leaving no way for ordinary people to escape.

“There was nothing to worry about, after all.”

“Who exactly is she?”

Those watching her as allies could only admire her. She was a being capable of effortlessly changing the terrible reality with her absurd power.

The survivors, who had no need to fire their weapons anymore, gazed at Riena, who was exterminating the lawless raiders without giving them a moment’s respite.

“Could she truly be a savior?”

One of them, Oh Chan-woo, muttered in a daze. It was an absurd thought, yet the moment this world fell into ruin, their common sense had crumbled.

There was no reason not to believe in the absurd anymore. Moreover, with evidence as clear as her existence, it felt even more convincing.

‘What’s so special about a god? This world is a hellhole right now.’

It was only natural for exhausted human psychology to foster the desire to follow and depend on someone.

Just like had happened in reality and elsewhere, Riena was becoming the center of people’s hopes here as well.

“It seems something big happened at night.”

After finishing his errands, Jun-young returned to the game during the morning hours.

Since the game’s time flowed faster than reality but had begun to synchronize due to the blending effect, it was morning in the game as well.

Seeing the corpses of raiders lined up in front of the building, he instinctively realized what had transpired.

‘Unless there were variables, there was no one in this world capable of stopping Riena. Then what must the gazes of those inside be like?’

He quietly observed Riena as she conversed with the survivors. Just from her rich expressions alone, it was clear how much her existence had grown compared to her NPC days.

“It’s about time to set off.”

Riena noticed Jun-young looking at her and realized it was time. They soon gathered their belongings and boarded the vehicle to move to their destination.

The survivors, including Oh Chan-woo, no longer questioned her orders. They began to believe that following her was the path to salvation.

‘We seem to be getting closer.’

Driving while checking the minimap and a map he found online, Jun-young headed toward a secluded facility that supposedly held vaccines, keeping a sharp eye on the passing zombies.

Vaccines weren’t only obtainable at the facility. By defeating certain zombies, there was a chance of acquiring drops.

“That’s it!”

At that moment, he spotted something and shouted, abruptly halting the vehicle. The sudden stop startled Riena and the following survivors.

Regardless, he hurriedly grabbed his gun, leaped out of the driver’s seat, and began shooting zombies that surrounded him.

“What the hell is going on?!”

“I-I don’t know! Just fight!”

Without hesitation, Riena charged out with her sword, and those in the truck bed and driver’s seat quickly readied their weapons to start cleaning up the nearby zombies.

‘Could they have found something?’

Realizing he had set a target and was moving towards it, Riena positioned herself to assist him faithfully.

Since there were no special zombies, there was no zombie to obstruct them, and soon all the surrounding zombies fell to their swords and bullets.

In the midst of this, what he was aiming for was a zombie that appeared to be a researcher wearing a dirty white gown, having collapsed from the bullets he fired. He calmly searched the lifeless body for any items.

‘Is this the time to shout out? Lucky me.’

[VK Vaccine Sample]

He faintly smiled upon seeing the item that appeared in his inventory.

“Could that possibly be the vaccine? If such a thing exists, then all of this…”

“I won’t know what’s in front of us until we go and see, but one thing is certain: we can get clues about the plague.”

The survivors, who were unable to communicate with him, asked Riena, but she too was yet to give a precise answer.

In fact, there was enough doubt and anxiety to go around, but they all brushed it aside, overshadowed by her nonsensical prowess as they boarded the vehicle and started the engine.

“Just trust me. Whatever lies ahead is bound to be better than dying miserably.”

“The existence of the vaccine suggests that this zombie crisis might have been orchestrated by someone. It could be corporate conspiracy or bio-experimentation like in the movies.”

“That’s a possibility. But that’s not what’s important right now.”

Even if there was nothing to distrust, they could certainly distinguish between what was important and what wasn’t. Oh Chan-woo thought that the most important thing now was just to believe and act without questioning where this calamity had begun.

‘I have to bring this into reality to collaborate with Lee So-Yeon.’

The reason for playing the Zombie Survival Game, Fallen World, was for one of the items: the vaccine.

Having been tempered countless times across various games and realities, I, holding the asymmetric power known as Riena, decided to pull it into reality.

For now, it was just a sample enough for one dose. To eradicate the intentionally spreading parasites, mass amounts would be needed, enough to treat hundreds or thousands, and that required a dedicated quest to be completed.

– Is there really a vaccine that can eradicate parasites as an item?

“Let’s capture an infected person using your skill, Saint’s Eyes, Lee So-Yeon. If we can confirm that this vaccine can eliminate the parasite by administering it in front of everyone else, both your abilities and mine will be validated.”

– I will speak directly.

Lee So-Yeon, seeing my chat, quickly said she’d talk right away and left in a hurry.

She probably meant to inform the National Intelligence Service, with whom she was collaborating. However, the response that came back was somewhat disappointing.

“I can’t believe it. They are cautious.”

– The team leader said the higher-ups rejected it. He asked for time to persuade them, but what should we do?

“Of course, I didn’t think things would go smoothly.”

I didn’t feel particularly frustrated with the surrounding hesitation.

Because I was now someone who could take direct action. Having amassed experience, I was confident in the power I possessed now.

“I’ll take the lead, so please bring those people when the time comes.”

My plan was simple. Since they seemed to be scared, I would force it down their throats.

Some among them might see me as a criminal or a disorderly villain, but after deciding I wouldn’t run away any longer, I was prepared.

– Understood. I already have the secretary’s details investigated, so I’ll send them to you. Just to confirm, no one is really getting hurt, right?

After hearing my plan, Lee So-Yeon was momentarily silent before providing information and expressing her willingness to cooperate.

‘Having already been inside a congressman’s house, this should be enough.’

Opening a portal near the address provided by Lee So-Yeon, I looked up at an apartment from beneath the hood of my cloak.

This was the home of the parasitized secretary. Thoroughly disguised, he likely had no idea that he was infected.

Soon, when the parasite began to act, he would unknowingly have his emotions and thoughts disturbed, revealing his inner self.

I was scouting for an opportunity to do the same to the country’s leader, the President.

“Dad, look at this!”

“Seung-min, your father is eating!”

“…”

Using the recluse’s cloak to obscure my presence, I infiltrated his house to abduct him.

Standing at the door I’d breached, I heard happy family voices from around the corner of the hallway.

Upon hearing their laughter, I froze momentarily. Whatever the intent, what I was about to do was ultimately an act of violence.

I had no intention of speaking with them from the start. I had no idea what the parasite inside him might do when cornered.

‘What excuse could I possibly give?’

Saying I was going to abduct him because a parasite was in your husband’s or your father’s body wouldn’t be effective at all.

Neither would the words “for the sake of the world.” My actions would undoubtedly leave them with a horrific trauma.

[Silence]

Ultimately, the method I chose was to simply say nothing at all. Even if they thought of me as a villain, I deemed it best to accept that.

“Oh?”

“What’s going on?”

They looked around in confusion as I activated the silence magic spreading into the house through the scroll.

‘This isn’t about playing hero. Just focus on the objective.’

With a switched mindset, I revealed myself to them, and seeing an intruder suddenly appear in their safe and comfortable home, their eyes widened in shock as I quickly scattered the powder I had brought.

“Who are you… cough… cough.”

“Aah, no. Seung-min…”

The sleep herb powder used by hunters in creature hunting. It was a powerful sedative, ensuring they would sleep deeply until naturally recovering.

Both the seemingly ordinary son and wife, as well as the infected man, couldn’t withstand the sleep herb and stumbled, ultimately losing consciousness.

“You must be asleep too. After all, you’re just a parasite.”

I chuckled as I lifted the unconscious secretary in my arms.

Surely, the parasite within him would now be helplessly sealed away.

Just like a parasite that cannot act without a host to move according to its will.
