Chapter 138: Blackbird · Killer Queen
Kira Yoshikage was sitting alone in the prison, expressionless, with unkempt stubble and dressed in wrinkled prison clothes.
His fingernails had grown quite long—though he had just trimmed them two days ago, they had already grown back to this state.
Even the prison guards were astonished, puzzled at how his nails grew so rapidly.
Only Kira himself knew the truth: the speed of his nail growth was directly proportional to his desire to kill—the stronger his urge to kill, the faster his nails grew.
Kira used to rely on the growth of his nails to decide when to kill. Whenever they reached a certain length, he would go out, murder a woman, and bring her hand home.
Afterward, he would trim his nails, which had become long, and wait for the next growth cycle. He had repeated this process for years.
Through this habit, Kira had killed several people. However, after years of incompetence, the Neon police finally found some clues and evidence, leading to his arrest.
Without the help of his Stand, Killer Queen, to erase evidence, Kira had left behind significant traces while committing his crimes. The fact that he had remained free for years was a miracle in itself.
Now imprisoned, he could no longer kill, which caused his murderous urges to surge uncontrollably, accelerating the growth of his nails.
After trimming, his nails would grow back in just a few days. At his peak killing desire, their growth was visibly noticeable.
It had been several years since Kira was arrested. Although he had been sentenced to death, Neon's execution process was notoriously slow.
A notable exception was Angelo Katagiri, nicknamed "Anjuro," who was swiftly executed due to his heinous crimes and offending powerful figures.
Kira, however, had no such "privileges." Despite being on death row for years, no progress had been made toward his execution.
Sometimes, Kira even wished for death to end it all. The inability to kill had tormented him deeply.
To him, killing was his nature, and the prison's restraint was a suppression of his very essence, leaving him expressionless and spiritually numb.
"Found you. You've changed so much, I almost didn't recognize you," a male voice suddenly broke through his thoughts.
Kira looked up to see Zuke standing before him. Behind him, the prison cell door had been forcibly broken open.
Judging by the door's twisted shape, someone had wrenched it apart with sheer force.
Zuke stared at Kira with some surprise. Compared to the composed, clean-cut man from the past, Kira now resembled a disheveled vagrant.
It seemed that his inability to satisfy his murderous urges had destabilized his mind, leaving him unable to maintain his previous appearance.
"But it's fine. Your Stand potential hasn't changed. Looks like it's not tied to your mental state."
Zuke took out an Arrow—a trophy he had brought back from another mission world. Naturally, it could be brought into the current world as well.
The Arrow spun in his palm before pointing directly at Kira, as if drawn to him like a magnet.
Kira stared blankly at Zuke, showing no particular reaction to the Arrow.
There was no dramatic intuition about its connection to him—no sudden epiphany or premonition.
Seeing Kira's lack of response, Zuke shrugged and flicked the Arrow straight into Kira's shoulder.
Kira winced, the pain finally eliciting a reaction. He looked at Zuke in confusion, unsure if the man intended to kill him.
At first, he assumed Zuke might be a victim's family member seeking revenge. But... this didn't seem to be the case.
Soon, Kira felt a surge of heat coursing through his body. His eyes widened as he instinctively summoned a new power:
Killer Queen!
A humanoid Stand burst forth from behind him, its upper body bare, clad in black leather shorts and gloves, with a cold, feline-like mask.
Although Kira didn't understand the concept of Stands or name this purple entity, he could sense its abilities:
The power to turn anything it touched into a bomb. Its left hand also housed a self-detonating toy car.
What made Killer Queen unique was its dual abilities—even the toy car, Sheer Heart Attack, had its own stats.
"You..."
Kira's face lit up with joy—this power meant he could escape and no one could stop him!
He turned to Zuke, feeling gratitude for awakening this ability, even though he didn't know the man's true intentions.
But just as he turned back, a sharp pain struck his chest—Blackbird's fist had pierced his heart, causing him to spit blood.
"Congratulations on awakening Killer Queen," Zuke said with a smile, watching the disbelief in Kira's eyes.
"But your usefulness ends here. Take your filthy soul and repent in hell."
Kira collapsed, life slipping away. The Killer Queen beside him weakened and faded.
Before Kira could completely die, Zuke commanded Blackbird to seize Killer Queen and absorb it into its body.
With this, Blackbird inherited Killer Queen's powers, and Kira's body gave one last spasm before death.
"Let's use your ability to erase the evidence," Zuke said, directing Blackbird to tap Kira's lifeless body.
"Blackbird Killer Queen, First Bomb."
Boom!
A silent explosion only Zuke could hear erupted, distorting Kira's body before obliterating it entirely.
Not a single trace remained on the ground.
Killer Queen's exceptional ability to eliminate evidence left no fragments or ashes. It could even ensure objects remained intact if desired or utterly destroyed.
Now, Kira Yoshikage had vanished from this world, as if consumed by a void.
