A Regressed Villain: Heroines, Villainesses and Me?

Chapter 85: Chapter 87- Leo's Awakening (1)

Synergy is a unique form of energy that can adapt itself to different types of power systems, functioning in various ways depending on how it's used.

For instance, it can serve as mana for those who wield magic or as internal energy for those who rely on physical strength.

What makes Synergy remarkable is its ability to equalize these diverse energy forms, much like a universal force that aligns with each user's needs.

This energy didn't always exist in its current form — it evolved. Through the merging of different world systems, the Tower analyzed countless types of energy: mana, demonic energy, divine energy, and many others.

By combining the core principles of each, Synergy was created — a singular energy compatible with all systems, much like electricity in the physical world.

Think of electricity: it powers many different devices — heating, lighting, motion — yet remains the same energy at its core.

Electricity can be transformed into heat in a stove, light in a bulb, or kinetic energy in a fan.

Synergy works the same way.

It doesn't become other forms of energy, but it delivers similar results based on how it's used by an Evolver.

It adapts its input and output to mimic the energy required — be it for magic, strength, or something else.

For most Evolvers, Synergy is a versatile tool.

To understand, one could compare Evolvers with batteries, storing Synergy and channeling it into various powers, whether casting spells or enhancing their physical capabilities.

However, there exists another group called Empyreals.

Empyreals are unique in that their bodies respond to Synergy in a completely different way.

For them, Synergy awakens a dormant trait, turning it into a powerful ability.

It's as if Synergy becomes a fuel source for this specific trait, activating and amplifying it.

One could compare this to an air conditioner: it cools a room, but it needs electricity to function.

The air conditioner can't use electricity for anything other than cooling, just like an Empyreal can only use Synergy for their specific power.

Evolvers, on the other hand, are more like rechargeable batteries. They can power multiple devices, so to speak, but they still need Synergy to charge them up before they can access their different abilities.

In summary, Synergy is universal energy that can adapt and support various forms of power, whether through magic, physical strength, or unique abilities. Its versatility is what allows different Evolvers and Empyreals to tap into its potential in ways suited to their strengths.

Though, of course, no one except Avendial, right now in this world, is aware of these things in such depth.

Researchers under the Royal Family, who have had the privilege of accessing Synergy and its practical availability in the form of Empyreals, have somewhat been able to understand these facts.

If Avendial could recall correctly, they would not be able to distinguish between the energy used by Evolvers or Empyreals, typically thinking that both are using different kinds of Synergy.

But in truth, standing in front of the bed while looking down at Leo's body, which seemed to be breaking from the inside, as if Avendial's blood was reacting with his, contradicted this fact.

So presently, even with the resources and scientists under the Royal Family, due to not having enough raw Synergy present in the atmosphere, it was not possible for them to conduct thorough research.

Even if they used some Empyreals, the energy samples would be different and would make them unable to understand why Synergy was reacting differently for different people.

At least until the Tower arrives and the existence of Internal Energy, Mana, and other forms of widely known fantasy novel energy show their existence, it was impossible for the scientists under the Royal Family to find a single trait and understand how Synergy actually showed different properties.

Unaware that it was adapting to the user's needs.

"Crrrrkkk!!"

Leaving the thought of what the Royal Family might know about the complete details of Synergy, Avendial focused on the present situation. Not caring about them, given they would also, after a year, be able to know all those things which he knows about Synergy.

"Are you going to just die, Leo?

Aren't you a pathetic weakling who can't even face life's challenges and wants to escape this life through death?" Looking down at Leo's face, now covered with green veins and a visible crimson flush, with nerves filling the whole face and appearing to pop out of his skin, clearly showing his pain through the sunken eyes that seemed about to pop out of their sockets, Avendial, with a narrowed gaze and a mocking tone, taunted Leo, who was fighting against the pain assaulting his body.

'Kugh....th-this!?', Leo, on the other hand, felt his whole body becoming numb, enough that he could hardly hear anything except the voice of the man. Though it was lower than a whisper for him, whose ears were ringing, he still heard how, after injecting some kind of poison or something, Leo was being mocked, as if he was trying to escape.

Wasn't it the poison he was injected with by this man that was taking his life?

How could Leo be at fault if he couldn't even win against a poison?

He knew he was dying, but this death was definitely not peaceful. And it was not until he heard how this man, claiming to be Marquess Croceaus, was this much of a psychopath, not even human.

'N-no, I can't die like this!', Leo, who had watched several movies where it was shown how noblemen had the habit of tormenting commoners.

Though of course he had always thought those were fictions, today, seeing how he was going through this intense pain because of this man who had injected some kind of hellish poison which was burning his body inside, he clearly realized that the so-called Marquess Croceaus had a kink for tormenting people.

"Kugh! I can't die, Damn it!", Leo yelled out, his oxygen mask falling off his body, his back arching as if his whole body was going through the intense pain of reconstruction. His bones and muscles were tearing, aligning in different directions with organs, being cursed as if something unknown, an alien was changing his body form from the inside, causing intense pain.

'A physical type', Avendial thought, looking down at Leo, clearly able to see his body arching abnormally and understanding that the type of ability that Leo was about to awaken was a physical type ability.

Naturally, Avendial's blood doesn't have some kind of effect to awaken someone or some special hidden ability, but it just nullifies the Synergy—his entire body fluid does the same.

For over 700 years, this Synergy had existed in the world, and while certain individuals like Evolvers or Empyreals were born due to their bodies being more sensitive to it, the general population had developed a natural resistance.

This resistance, though minor, prevented most people from ever realizing they carried such energy within their bodies or from experiencing any form of awakening.

Avendial's blood first nullified all the remnants of Synergy in a person's body, but that particular Synergy, due to its property of versatility, had evolved and become a part of their genetics, passed down through generations in all these people.

It acted as a neutral agent to keep their bodies from becoming more sensitive to exposure from outside Synergy, which was increasing rapidly over the years.

However, due to the evolution not being that strong, the people, in particular, within a year after being exposed to an enormous amount of Synergy—which will arise due to the arrival of the Tower—will trigger their awakening and neglect their negligible resistance, which would have worked if only a little amount of Synergy was present.

But in front of an enormous amount, they would start to awaken.

But here, Avendial's blood had just nullified that Synergy infused in Leo's DNA, breaking that minimum resistance his body had and preventing him from awakening.
