A Reader's Grimoire In A Novel World

Chapter 24: Chapter 24: Clan selection Trial (6)

Julius opened his eyes, and he was above the tree, looking at the group of students who were by the river.

He glanced at his arm and then realized the situation he was in.

"Damn... Is this how things are...?" he questioned as he relaxed.

"It takes only a little misstep to lose your life, a small decision." He let out a tired breath.

'So that was what the grimoire was trying to warn me about. My brothers or some unknown threat... probably the grey convoys, since Ivana failed to kill me,' Julius recounted.

He wasn't going to go after the serpent by himself this time. He'd rather let someone else find it.

Julius smiled as he suddenly had an idea. He removed his white robe, left it in the trees, and then went away to get the same strong branch and sharpen it.

He was ready again.

He walked over to the river, scanned the area, and saw that Cider and Rowan were watching him. He glanced at the water once more, then at the vine tying his hand.

'Yes, yes, this plan is okay,' he thought before walking towards them.

"Argh, that good-for-nothing Cider keeps getting on my nerves!" he shouted in their direction.

"His brain is useless. He just has the strength to bully others. He's a fool, a very stupid person..." Julius kept the insults going as he pretended to pick grass.

In the next moment, a shout came from the bush beside him, and he leapt back, looking towards the sound to see Cider with an angry expression.

"Ah..." He started running ahead, and Cider felt a rush of anger in his body as he dashed towards Julius again.

Julius was already ahead and grabbed the long stick he had prepared earlier as a golden aura surrounded him.

He frowned, leaping up and thrusting the pike into the water.

Cider followed behind, with Rowan gritting his teeth as he followed Cider.

A large snake soon emerged from the water as Julius and Cider jumped across. Then Julius looked at Cider and smiled.

"Next time, don't follow unless you're certain," Julius said to him, but Cider was too scared to hear anything as he gazed at the creature towering above him.

Julius pulled the vine on his wrist, and it suddenly yanked him in one direction with great speed. Rowan gritted his teeth as he saw this.

Julius looked over at both of them, who were struggling with the snake, and he just sat down at a distance, watching from afar.

He noticed other students approaching the area but left them for now—he only needed the seal.

Plus, he kept an eye on those who had been watching him for a while—the assassins.

Cider conjured a massive flame bomb that exploded in the creature's face, and Rowan sped past the tail and climbed onto its head.

He thrust his sword forward, releasing a stream of flames that came together to form a blade and pierced the snake's skull.

"Ah..." Julius was greatly interested as he watched the feat Rowan achieved.

'The power of a technique. He was able to bypass the creature's hard scales with that attack. Too bad they won't reap their rewards,' he thought before jumping from his tree toward their location.

He landed on the body of the snake, and Cider stood up immediately.

"Julius, you bastard!" the prince said, picking up his sword and advancing toward Julius.

Julius carefully cut out the seal, and then Cider ran towards him, his hair igniting in flames as his speed increased.

Julius jumped backward and threw a ball toward Cider. Out of anger, the prince hit the ball with his sword, and a large explosion occurred, blinding him with a bright light.

Cider crashed to the ground, receiving a concussion from the blast. He opened his eyes again to see that Julius was nowhere to be found.

"FUUUUCK!!" Cider banged his hand on a nearby tree as his rage intensified.

He removed his hand, revealing a deep dent in the tree.

"Where is he?" Rowan asked as he ran over, and Cider shook his head.

"The bastard escaped. I'm going to kill him," Cider said, squeezing his fists as he frowned.

"Fuck, that guy is very cunning. He made us fight the creature so he could reap the rewards afterward," Rowan muttered, rubbing his chin as he pieced it together.

Meanwhile, Julius had already reached his cave and decided to stay there for the remaining week. He had the highest seal level for this round, so he wasn't worried about anything else.

...

"This boy..." Margaret was surprised by Julius' brilliance in the field.

"He used those stronger than him to his advantage, and while they were weakened, he stole the beast seal. A good tactic indeed..." Berlin praised him with a proud smile.

"He played that out well. My sons weren't able to beat him at his game," the red-haired queen said, letting out a sigh.

Sasha, on the other hand, seemed to be getting more excited to see her brother achieve more amazing things.

The king noticed what Julius did to the other boys, and a small smile crept onto his face.

"Julius, huh? He's very strategic," the king praised, and the queens glanced at their husband as he said that.

...

Over the next few days, Julius kept an eye on the assassins disguised as students, who were monitoring him while pretending not to know where he was to avoid alerting the elder watching them.

He made his way towards the river area, noticing the students coming toward him from the bushes, and he got ready.

"Oh, look, it's the fifth prince!" one of the girls pointed out as she spotted him, and then they looked at his waist, noticing a large scale with a seal tucked inside his trousers.

"What seal did you get, Prince Julius?" one of the boys asked as he walked forward. Julius remained calm and opened a page in front of him.

[Name: Sier Ana

Rank: First Echelon Scheme 7

Attributes: Assassin lv. 5 (Uncommon), Slave (Common) lv. Max, Trickster lv. 3 (Epic)

Spells and Techniques: ...

Status: Currently working for the Duke of the North. Leading a group of assassins. Has the urge to kill.]

Julius read it and still saw the boy smiling at him.

"I got a tier 2 seal..." Julius said with a shrug, and then the boy brought out two of his daggers.

Julius frowned and threw his sword into the air with a swing, and the assassins looked up.

He shot through the leader's bones and many others as he extended his fingers precisely.

The boy fell to one knee as the other knee was shot through, and he gritted his teeth.

"Get him..." the boy commanded calmly, and the others moved swiftly toward Julius.

Julius knew that the elders weren't allowed to participate, and there had been instances where the elder wasn't able to save the individual.

They weren't planning on just disqualifying him.

He caught the sword in his hand, unsheathed it, and blocked a sword aimed at his head. He leapt back, ignoring the poison darts.

He glanced back up at them, still with a calm face.

The group of assassins saw his left eye glowing with a strange pattern, and he gestured for them to come at him.

Julius locked eyes with the assassins, his left eye still glowing with that eerie, hypnotic pattern. The leader struggled to stand, his gaze full of fury, blood pouring from his knee.

"You really think you can outlast us?" the leader hissed, a twisted grin on his face. His assassins flanked Julius, circling him like predators closing in on prey.

Julius remained unfazed, his fingers tracing the hilt of his sword with deliberate ease. His mind worked quickly, analyzing their movements, their weaknesses as he read their pages with the special eye.

Suddenly, without warning, the ground beneath Julius trembled. The air around them thickened, as if the earth itself was distorting.

Julius turned to the side, his eyes glowing brightly. He frowned as he saw a massive silhouette of a creature moving at great speeds towards him.

Then, from the depths of the forest, a low, ominous growl echoed, shaking the trees. Julius' heart was steady as he glanced at the direction.

Emerging from the shadows, the colossal form of a creature—one far larger than the serpent he'd faced—stepped into view, its eyes glowing a sickly red.

It had a large body which was over ten meters tall and it was a bird but with saw like beak.

It's massive figure bore two black wings which seemed to cover the sky for them. They were breathed in darkness at that moment, all they could see was the two red eyes staring at them.

Julius narrowed his eyes, gripping his sword tighter as the beast growled, each step reverberating like thunder.

The assassins stumbled back, terror overtaking their arrogance.

"What… what is that?" one of them muttered, panic setting in.

Julius smirked, his voice low and steady. "So this is how Caesar wants to play."

He then opened the grimoire in front of him.

"Let's dance."
