Nothing foreshadowed trouble until the enchanting, alluring aroma of a thousand flowers hit my nostrils. Without sarcasm, it was the most delightful smell I had ever experienced. Once again, I caught myself thinking that Pamela should really consider producing perfume.

"What a pity—I thought that with my full power, I'd finally be able to charm you," she pouted.

"I already told you, it won't work. Anything involving mind control just doesn't affect me. Besides… did you really want to take control of me?" I said, a trace of irritation in my voice, though the smile never left my face.

"Don't overthink it. I just wanted to be sure. If it makes you feel better, if I'd succeeded, I would've just turned off the pheromones," she replied, running a hand through her red hair, completely unconcerned.

"You still have a lot to learn about respecting other people's personal space. For your information, you managed to charm me from the first moment we met," I admitted, catching her attention.

"Really? In that case, maybe I should make you happy with a kiss?" She placed her hands on my shoulders, pressing close until her face was dangerously near mine.

"This moment could've earned a happy page in my life's story, but I'll have to refuse. I don't want to die. Maybe your pheromones don't influence me, but poisons are a different story."

"Are you really refusing my deadly kiss? For your information, I can control the toxicity of my lips. And if you trust me that much, why not take your chances?"

I could literally feel her breath on my face.

"It's time for us to go," I said, gently freeing myself from her embrace and moving toward the exit. "About the kiss… let's save that opportunity for another time. Maybe in the future, I'll take you up on it."

"How interesting," she murmured, licking her bright, plump lips as she followed. At the exit, we ran into Aaron again.

"Adios, amigo," I said with a mock salute.

"I hope we won't see each other again anytime soon," he replied, sticking to his usual routine.

We passed through the gates of Arkham. Pamela paused and glanced back at the asylum. "I never thought I'd walk out of here one day without someone chasing me. It's a strange feeling… as if I've lost something valuable."

"Maybe that's for the best. We always lose something, but we find something new in return."

"Maybe you're right. I suppose it's not so bad to leave a place where you're so highly 'valued.'"

We drove onto the highway.

"Where to now?" asked Pamela, her gaze following the changing landscape outside the window.

"To the Babylon lab. That's where you'll be working. There's someone I want you to meet."

"You're putting me to work already?" She looked at me with mock astonishment. "You could've at least treated me to something first. Hmph!"

"We won't be there long. Afterwards, I'll take you to your apartment. I tried to set it up to suit your unusual tastes. I hope you'll find it acceptable."

"That's unlikely," she replied, disagreeing before turning back to stare out the window.

Soon, we arrived at our destination: from the outside, an unremarkable building—inside, a laboratory of mad research.

Eva entered Pamela into the database while I handed her a keycard.

"Not bad at all," Pamela commented, taking in the lab's interior. Two people noticed us and hurried over: the girl in white greeted us warmly with a broad smile, while the girl in black watched Pamela warily.

Kavita's eyes sparkled like stars in the night as soon as she saw Pamela. I thought that even if we turned off the lights, it would be as bright as day. Sasha, on the other hand, seemed gloomier than a thundercloud.

I supposed Sasha's concern was justified. After all, one of the world's most dangerous criminals stood next to me. Well—a former criminal. Now, she's for peace, friendship, and, perhaps, chewing gum. I introduced everyone, and unsurprisingly, their first impressions varied.

"You left me here, and I think that was a very stupid decision," Bordeaux said, never taking her eyes off the green dryad. "It's my duty to protect you, and I'd prefer your full cooperation in the future. I hope this won't happen again."

"Um…" I scratched my head awkwardly. "I'm afraid this won't be the last such incident. You might as well get used to my irresponsibility. On the plus side, it'll give you more time to rest."

"And why did I ever sign up for this…" Sasha muttered.

"So you have a bodyguard," Ivy observed, studying my protector. "Why didn't you bring her when you came to rescue me? She could've easily saved your life if I'd decided to kill you."

"Just try it," Sasha said coldly.

"Come on, girls, let's not fight." I raised my hands in an attempt to keep the peace. "I didn't bring Sasha because I wanted to show you that I really trust you. If I'd come with security, we couldn't have been honest with each other."

"This trust of yours… where does it come from?" Pamela asked, ignoring Sasha.

"From his intuition," said Kavita, speaking up for the first time.

"Intuition? That again?"

"Maybe you don't know, Pamela, but Alex—just like you—is a meta-human," Rao suddenly announced, surprising everyone.

"Kavita…" I shot her a reproachful look.

"Oh, sorry, not quite like that," the doctor corrected herself. "The thing is, he doesn't consider himself a meta-human or mutant. He's just a guy with superpowers, as Alex usually says. One of his powers is super-intuition. Thanks to it, he can tell if someone's being honest, good or bad, trustworthy or not. He's got a few other abilities as well—including searching. He'll have to use that skill soon..."

Pamela and Sasha were in a slight stupor. I suppose this fact about me opened their eyes to several unsolved mysteries. Poison Ivy couldn't understand why I trusted her. Now she can answer herself why.

The same can be said about my bodyguard. However, I think I'm even more of a mystery in the eyes of my teacher now.

"He's not a mutant or a meta-human? Then what is he?" Ivy asked.

"I don't know," admitted Kavita, shaking her head. "But I'll definitely find out!"

"This is your specialty, right?"

"Yes, I study people with unusual abilities, if I may say so. And I hope we'll work well together, partner." Kavita's face lit up with a happy smile.

"Partner? So that means I'll be working with you? Only no one has told me what exactly we are working on yet." the green lady complained, pacing around the office. Her words did not escape the ears of Sasha Bordeaux, who was also not against finding out what exactly they were doing here.

"Alex?" the doctor glanced at my silent figure.

"Mm, yes, yes, of course. In a nutshell we'll be working on…...Super soldier serum."

Isley froze as soon as she heard this.
