Chapter 116: 112: Meeting Ivy again
True, I don't know at all what kind of memories will return to me. Will they be happy, or with shades of sadness, bright, or shrouded in darkness.
On the one hand, I want to know, I want to remember my life, to find out what it was like in the past world. But on the other hand, something stops me… I won't strive for my past. But if it does come to me, I won't avoid it.
I never thought that I'd talk about my problems with a psychologist, especially with Harley Quinn herself. I must admit: she really is an excellent master of her craft.
Our session lasted several hours. I talked about myself, about my future plans, though only concerning the company's affairs. Afterwards, the wonderful doctor herself opened up, telling several of her secrets.
She talked about moments in school, in college, in Arkham Asylum, when she was still a simple employee. Then, she got carried away, and she told me about her dark and cruel deeds, which she committed while being a crazy clown on a leash at the Joker. I was shocked by her revelations. But now I can safely say that I got to know Harley better, and we were able to get a little closer.
After all, before that, I did not quite understand how exactly I should behave with her. After such a productive session of soul-searching, we both were able to find a core for our future communication. I was ready to say goodbye to Quinn, as she pounced on me again, and carried me into a passionate kiss.
"Good luck to you, my wizard," the harlequin said in a soft voice, tearing herself away from my lips. "You will need all your magical charm to defeat Ivy and take her away from here. I also do not intend to stay here longer than necessary, and therefore, I hope that next time we will all meet already in freedom."
"Heh, I will do my best…."
Now I was waiting for my last visit to the Poison Ivy Garden of Eden. And I can not say that I am nervous. Rather, on the contrary, I am all in anticipation of our new meeting.
A beautiful girl and a handsome guy in the same room, what could possibly go wrong?...Actually….Everything...
Okay, time to meet Mother Nature. I know, I know, it sounded a little arrogant, but that's the point.
I was surrounded by fragrant flora again. The phrase "still blooming and fragrant" just begs to be used here.
"Hello, Pamela," I addressed the girl standing in the most remote corner of the garden. "We meet again."
"You are not welcome here," Ivy said in a cold tone, causing all the vegetation to shake slightly.
"And here I was hoping for a warmer greeting."
"If you have come to give out sweet speeches again, you better leave this place. I am not going to listen to you."
"It's a shame," I whispered, reducing the distance between us. "To be honest, I did not prepare for our meeting. I did not come up with any new arguments, methods, or reasons. I do not know how exactly to change your mind."
"Then why are you here?" Ivy asked, looking at me.
"To just talk? I just believe that you will make the right decision. I feel that you are ready to come with me. But something is holding you back…"
"Do you want to know? I'll tell you! A long time ago, I decided to try to leave Gotham forever. I escaped from Arkham and settled on an uninhabited island in the Caribbean. With the help of my powers, I turned the barren wastelands into a tropical paradise. It was then, for the first time in my life, that I was happy," Pamela said, rushing into memories. "Do you know what happened after? One American corporation decided to test weapons on the island, thinking that it was abandoned. After that, I returned to Gotham to punish the culprits... I haven't found everyone yet, but I will. Then I realized that I and people are not destined to live happily ever after."
"Not all people are bad, and not everyone is responsible for this. Don't generalize, please…"
"Oh, do you really mean to say that I don't understand people? What a problem. As if any of them understand me," the representative of greenery grinned, returning her attention to the flowers.
"I'm trying…"
"Really?" Isley feigned surprise. "Better not, spare yourself. I myself gave up trying to understand people a long time ago. So, don't awaken the "faith" in me."
"I can't claim that I understand what it's like... To feel the emotions of nature, all its pain, when the growing technological progress of humanity destroys vegetation. I can't even imagine all this unquenchable anger, fueled by such pain…"
Pamela remained silent. I think she was surprised by the fact that an ordinary person could so accurately voice her inner feelings. Here I was cunning, since I remembered this feature of hers from the time of reading comics. In war, all means are good, right?
"But give me a chance," I looked into the eyes of the silent dryad. "I want to understand, and share this burden with you, if necessary."
"Why should I believe you? I have met many men and none of them deserved my faith. The last representative of this sex even conducted a couple of experiments on me. He did not treat me like a person, for him I was just a plant. Isn't this a sign that from now on I do not belong to the human race? It's not that I am against such an opinion, I just want to remind you that the first step towards this was made by a man, and not me."
"Are you talking about Hugo Strange?"
"So you know about him," Pamela was surprised, "and you know what exactly he is? If you have such vast opportunities to even get me out of here, does this mean that you could also reveal the true identity of this slippery snake to the city? But for some reason, you still haven't done it."
......
For some reason my phone's UI completely changed and now it feels so weird to use, it's a 1+.
