A New Life in Fairy Tail

Chapter 38: Preparations

"Who is this person you mentioned? Are they strong?"

"I think you might know him. With his strength and reputation, he should be quite famous. His name is Gildarts."

"So it's him," Ur said with dawning recognition. "I've seen him before. His strength is indeed far greater than mine."

Ur was enlightened, but Lyon, standing beside her, became agitated. "Impossible! Ur is the strongest wizard! There can't be a wizard stronger than her!"

Noah held up a hand to stop Ur from speaking and turned to Lyon. "We'll find out what the truth is soon enough, won't we?"

Lyon still looked unconvinced but didn't say anything more.

"In that case, I'll go get Gildarts now. We'll rest tonight and set out to subjugate Deliora tomorrow."

With that, Noah teleported away. A moment later, he reappeared with Gildarts in tow.

"You said someone I know is here. Who is it?"

"It's her." Noah pointed to Ur.

Gildarts turned his head. "So it's you. I remember you said you had given up fighting as a wizard. What's this about?"

"She took on two disciples. One of their parents was killed by Deliora, and that same Deliora has recently appeared in Brago on the northern continent. I want to help them, but I was afraid something might go wrong if I went alone, so I brought you along as insurance."

"Deliora, huh? I've heard of it. An immortal demon. You've really grown into someone who can take on a monster like that."

"You might not have heard me clearly. I wasn't confident, which is why I called you as insurance."

"But at least you have the confidence to try."

"That's true."

Just then, Ur spoke up. "Let's rest for now and go after Deliora tomorrow."

"Sounds good."

Gildarts turned and whispered to Noah, "What's with that kid over there? Why does he keep staring at me?"

Noah saw that Gildarts was referring to Lyon and whispered back, "Ur said you were stronger than her, and he doesn't believe it. He thinks Ur is the strongest, so that's why he's like this."

Gildarts nodded and didn't pay him any more mind. He and Noah found a nearby inn to rest for the night.

The next day, everyone gathered at Ur's friend's house. It was clear that after a night of reflection, Gray was no longer as impulsive, though his eyes were still full of hatred as he sat there quietly. Ur sat with Ultear and Lyon. The moment Gildarts walked in, Lyon's eyes were fixed on him, and Ultear also looked at him with curiosity.

Noah quietly introduced them to Gildarts. "The one with black hair is Gray; he's the one with the grudge against Deliora. The boy next to him is Lyon, and the girl is Ultear, Ur's daughter."

"What? That's Ur's daughter? I remember she used to say her daughter was gone."

"I got lucky and ran into Ultear just as she escaped from the Magic Development Bureau, so I brought her back."

"So that's what happened. No wonder you and Ur infiltrated the Bureau and caused such a huge incident. But you're really something else, kid. Rescuing a pretty little girl like that... So, got any ideas?" Gildarts asked, throwing an arm around Noah with a lecherous grin.

Noah rolled his eyes. What is this old man thinking? He was only ten years old. While he might act mature for his age, his biology definitely limited his thoughts in that direction. He pushed Gildarts' arm off, sat him down, and said, "If we go to fight Deliora, these three will have to stay behind."

He pointed at Gray, Lyon, and Ultear. Gray immediately leaped to his feet. "No! I have to see Deliora defeated with my own eyes! I'm going too!"

Lyon also looked eager. "I want to go too, to witness Ur's battle."

Ultear just hugged Ur. "I don't want to be separated from Mama."

Noah scratched his head, feeling conflicted. He had considered just knocking them out, but that was a last resort; they might just follow them when they woke up, which would be even more troublesome. After thinking for a moment, he said to Ur, "When the time comes, can you protect them?"

"Me? Protect them? As Gray's master, I have to do my part in the fight."

"Protecting them is all you need to do. Let Gray witness Deliora's power and its defeat firsthand. Let Ultear and Lyon see a high-level battle. And finally, and most importantly, I want to challenge myself. I want to see what my own strength is now, after all these years of hard work. And with Gildarts as insurance, we won't be in any real danger."

Gildarts grumbled from the side, "So you just called me here to clean up your mess."

"I was scared I couldn't win, so of course I called for a parent. Aren't you my parent?"

Gildarts was stunned for a moment, then a gratified smile spread across his face, and he said nothing more.

Although Ur was reluctant, seeing that everyone else was in agreement, she had no choice but to consent.

After getting ready, Noah teleported the entire group to Brago. When they arrived, they didn't see Deliora. Noah used his detection magic and found it resting in a nearby valley. He then took everyone to a mountaintop overlooking the area.

In the distance, they could see the massive form of Deliora sitting on the ground. The oppressive feeling of the giant creature could be felt even from so far away.

Noah turned to the others. "Ur, you have to watch these three closely. I don't want to be in the middle of a fight and see one of them run onto the battlefield. And I'll be counting on you to back me up, Gildarts."

Both of them nodded. The two boys looked eager to rush in, but under Ur's strict supervision, they suppressed the urge.

Seeing that they all agreed, Noah took Gildarts and teleported down to the vicinity of Deliora. After dropping Gildarts off, Noah began to walk towards the resting demon alone.

As he walked, he slowly raised his magic power. A golden aura began to pour out of him, and his black hair floated upwards. With each step, the ground beneath his feet began to crack, and the surrounding pebbles started to levitate. Ripples of air expanded outwards from him, kicking up clouds of dust.

His magic power intensified further. Flashes of electricity began to arc around him. His hair stood on end, and his eyes filled with a golden light.

From a distance, Gildarts watched the display of power and thought to himself with a sigh, It's been over a year since I've seen him. His magic has grown so much. He's incredible!

The surging magic power awakened the distant Deliora. It opened its eyes and looked towards the approaching boy.
