Chapter 22: Fairy Law
The villagers were startled by Noah's sudden appearance, but the chief quickly calmed them down.
Noah shook his head. "No, I just came from another place to check on you all. I'm glad you're safe."
He then turned to the village chief, who had just finished reassuring the villagers. "I will resolve the situation with the enemy shortly. You can all wait here for the Royal Army and the Magic Council to arrive. I've already notified them."
Erza asked worriedly, "Big Brother Noah, this is your real body, right? You won't be in any danger, will you?"
A confident smile spread across Noah's face. "Of course not. I'm a wizard of Fairy Tail, after all. Just make sure you all watch what happens next. Don't blink. I'm off."
With that, a teleportation circle unfolded at Noah's feet, and he vanished.
The village chief was overjoyed to hear Noah's words and quickly organized everyone to find a place to stop and rest nearby.
Erza said, puzzled, "What did Big Brother Noah want us to watch? Is there something to see from here?"
Simon was just as confused. "I don't know what we're supposed to be looking at, but I guess we'll find out soon. From the way Noah said it, it should be obvious."
The three children, still wondering about Noah's words, followed the chief to find a place to rest.
Noah teleported to his Thought Projection's side. He saw the cult leader staring at him, dumbfounded, and gave him a confident smile.
"Have you never seen someone as handsome as me before? Or did I knock you silly?"
The leader stared at Noah's face, which was identical to the projection's. Aside from the different patterns of damage on their clothes, he couldn't see any difference between the two. The Thought Projection's clothes wouldn't normally be affected, but Noah had deliberately damaged them and added some dirt to his face to make the illusion more convincing, so the leader had suspected nothing.
Noah's taunt snapped the leader back to his senses slightly. "Are you two twins?"
Noah and his Thought Projection laughed together. The projection took a step closer to Noah until their shoulders were only a fist's width apart. They spoke in perfect unison.
"No. From the very beginning, we were one and the same."
The Thought Projection's form began to blur as it moved closer to Noah. The closer it got, the more indistinct it became, until their two figures completely overlapped and the projection vanished entirely.
A powerful surge of magic exploded from Noah, and the resulting gust of wind was so strong that the cult leader had to squeeze his eyes shut.
Noah stretched his body and sighed contentedly. "It feels good to have my full magic power back. It was so inconvenient without half of it."
"A Thought Projection?!" the leader gasped, shocked.
Noah was curious that he knew of the spell. "You know about Thought Projections, old man?"
"Don't assume I'm ignorant!"
"What a pity. You're educated, but you've gone astray. Old man, you had a lot of fun chasing me around, didn't you? Now, it's my turn."
The leader was seething. "You're saying I had fun?! Your damn traps injured so many of my men!"
Noah put on an expression that said, I'm not listening. "All I know is that I was chased all over the place, and now I'm going to hit back."
The leader's rage boiled over. "Everyone, get him! Kill that brat!"
The surrounding cultists were terrified by Noah's earlier display and were hesitant to advance. The leader shouted and berated them from the side. Noah thought this was perfect; their reluctance gave him the time he needed to start charging his spell.
I have enough magic power. I can use it now. What's the line I should say at a time like this? Right... "According to the trial procedures of Fairy Tail, I'll give you a three-second countdown. Kneel and repent!"
"One!"
Hearing this, the leader roared, "You're telling me to kneel and repent?! Get him, now! Kill him!"
"Two!"
Noah held his palms diagonally in front of his chest, facing each other. A golden sphere of light materialized between them as visible magic power began to gather into it. The cultists started to panic. Anyone who wasn't a fool could see that Noah was charging up a massive spell. They all began to hurl various magic attacks at him, hoping to interrupt his casting.
"Three!"
"Time's up!"
Noah closed his eyes and clapped his hands together, enclosing the golden sphere within them. A visible light shot out from between his clasped hands, obliterating all the incoming spells. More and more light radiated outwards until the area around Noah was as bright as day.
"Fairy Law... activate!"
Noah's eyes snapped open. A golden magic circle appeared in each of them, with the Fairy Tail emblem at its center.
The light grew stronger and stronger. Far away, Erza and the others, who had stopped to rest, all saw the brilliant golden light appear over Rosemary Village. Suddenly, a massive golden magic circle materialized in the sky, expanding until it covered the entire village and its surroundings. The clear image of the Fairy Tail emblem in its center was seen by Erza, Simon, Kagura, and all the other villagers, deeply imprinting itself into their minds.
The magic circle suddenly contracted rapidly inwards, and then a powerful golden light expanded outwards, so bright that the distant villagers had to squeeze their eyes shut.
"So bright!"
"What is that light?"
"I can't open my eyes!"
The villagers all turned away or shielded their eyes. Some were blinded by the light to the point of tears.
Erza, with her eyes closed, exclaimed, "So this is what Big Brother Noah wanted us to see! He's amazing!"
Simon, also with his eyes shut, agreed. "Yeah, this is incredible. I had no idea Noah was this powerful. He never showed it before."
Kagura, hiding behind Simon, said, "This light... it feels so warm."
"It does," Simon marveled. "It's so warm."
The light gradually subsided, finally vanishing from Rosemary Village.
The villagers immediately began to talk amongst themselves.
"What was that just now?"
"It looked like it came from inside the village, didn't it?"
"That was magic, right? A spell that powerful?"
"The wizard who can use a spell like that must be incredibly strong!"
"Did anyone else think the symbol in the middle of that magic circle looked familiar?"
"Yes, yes! I thought so too! I thought I was the only one."
"That is the symbol of the wizard guild, Fairy Tail," the village chief explained to the villagers. "It's the guild of the wizard who was just protecting us. Members of their guild have come to our village to complete missions before."
"So it was Fairy Tail that was helping us! I remember now. We have to thank them properly."
"Yes, yes, I think so too."
"We can send them requests in the future."
"Right, right, that's a great idea."
