A Hospital in Another World?

Chapter 665: One Saved, One Fainted?

Garrett's head buzzed as he rushed to the operating table, where Cecilia, who had already been given local anesthesia and was waiting for surgery, lay.

"Your surgery is on hold! I need to save her life first, then I'll come back to you!" He turned and dashed out. At the door, Knight Selina, who was allowed to observe the surgery and was putting on surgical clothes, instinctively called out:

"Hey—"

"Get her off the operating table first!" Garrett yelled as he ran out. As he ran, he shouted to Selina who followed him out, "She's fine! The first stage of labor has just begun, she has over ten hours. I need to handle the other one first! That's life-threatening!"

Umbilical cord prolapse!

The umbilical cord is the blood vessel that supplies blood from the mother to the fetus, always working inside the womb, extending from the placenta into the amniotic sac and connected to the fetus. This conduit works in a 37°C, moist and soft environment.

Once the umbilical cord is exposed outside, it can spasm or, more likely, be compressed. The consequence of the umbilical cord spasm or compression is that it stops supplying blood to the fetus—

Garrett remembered his obstetrics instructor saying that once the umbilical blood flow is blocked, it only takes 7 to 8 minutes for the fetus to die in the womb!

Every minute, even every second, is a matter of life and death for the mother and the fetus!

Anna, or Lady Rena, was rescued by the Silver Moon Deer Appa. She had previously been diagnosed with malpositioned fetus and was advised to exercise gently to adjust the fetal position. Anna indeed exercised and was gentle, but...

The concept of gentle for a level 7 female warrior is sometimes different from that of a doctor...

Luckily, Anna's exercise ground and Appa's strolling ground were geographically the same. The Silver Moon Deer noticed something wrong with her, immediately cast a healing spell, and then carried her on its back:

Racing straight to the small building, neighing to alert. When Garrett arrived, Anna had already been put on a stretcher, amniotic fluid gushing under her, surrounded by a small group of nurses. Appa's body glittered with silver light, continuously falling on Anna, making her feel a little better.

"Move! Move!"

Garrett rushed into the circle. Observing quickly, the female warrior looked half nervous, half pained, curled up on the stretcher. Her clothes had been undone, and between her legs, the umbilical cord was clearly visible. He immediately bent down:

"Madam, please get on your hands and knees, supporting your body with your knees and elbows. I need to push the umbilical cord back in. Don't worry, I'm here."

Sweat rolled down Anna's forehead as she nodded in pain. Garrett immediately instructed the nurses:

"Hold her steady! Turn her over! One, two, three!"

At his command, the nurses swiftly turned Lady Anna over, making her lie face down.

This level 7 female warrior was indeed resilient, supporting herself steadily on her elbows and knees alone. In Garrett's experience, most heavily pregnant women couldn't do this and needed nurse assistance—

Since he didn't need to support her, Garrett could focus entirely on dealing with the umbilical cord prolapse. Kneeling on the stretcher behind the mother, he stretched his hand out:

"Warm saline gauze! Quickly!"

The saline-soaked gauze was promptly handed to him. Garrett wrapped the umbilical cord with the gauze, took out a seed and held it in his hand, concentrating silently. Instantly, countless threads extended from his hand, gently wrapping the gauze.

Then, with his left hand, he gathered a large handful of glycerin, applying it to the mother's abdomen. Spreading it quickly, he opened his fingers to cast the ultrasound spell:

Bedside ultrasound, to observe the fetal position and umbilical cord location, and the umbilical blood flow! Under ultrasound guidance, he used vines to expand the birth canal and push the umbilical cord back inside, reducing spasms and restoring blood flow!

He further extended the vines inside to adjust the fetal position, lifting the fetus to avoid compressing the umbilical cord!

While operating, Garrett silently thanked magic. Without it, dealing with an umbilical cord prolapse would be much more cumbersome—

He had seen operations where the obstetrics instructor lay on a stretcher, one hand, along with most of their arm, was inserted into the mother. Holding the umbilical cord and fetus in place to prevent them from descending prematurely, blood, amniotic fluid, and various secretions covering the instructor—

As one shocked observer described, "The mother looked like a large sleeve wrapped around her arm." Such a cumbersome posture, exhausting all physical strength, just to hold the umbilical cord, to buy a little time for the mother and fetus.

After finishing the umbilical cord reinsertion, two barbarian guards arrived outside, lifting the stretcher and running towards the operating room. Garrett knelt on the stretcher, slightly concentrating, casting monitoring spells one by one:

Fetal heart monitor!

Maternal ECG monitor!

Blood oxygen monitor!

Blood pressure monitor!

A series of light screens floated around him, following the stretcher rapidly forward, creating a magical scene. Garrett, however, paid no attention to this, fully focused on the monitoring results:

Thank goodness, the umbilical cord pushed back by the vines had regained vitality. The ultrasound showed blood flowing through the umbilical cord, delivering oxygen and nutrients from the mother to the fetus.

Garrett quickly glanced at the light screens. The fetal heart rate was stable, not noticeably accelerated, indicating no intrauterine distress—

Unfortunately, his blood oxygen monitoring magic could only cover the surface, unable to monitor the fetus directly, relying only on the fetal heart rate as a guess. Hmm, it seemed Appa's healing spell was effective, and he arrived in time; the fetus should be saved…

Next, the baby just needed to be delivered by C-section!

"Come, lay her down, face up, with her right hip elevated, tilted 15 degrees to the left!" Garrett instructed rapidly:

"Guards, leave! Prepare her, disinfect, quickly, I'll start the surgery immediately! —Madam, you're too high level, too strong physically, I might not be able to cut through. As discussed, my skeleton soldier will perform the surgery, is that okay?"

Anna nodded in pain on the delivery bed. Amidst a flurry of activity, everyone either left or assisted, quickly preparing for surgery. The next moment, with a flash of light, a silver skeleton appeared at the operating table, steadily taking the scalpel—

"Ah—"

"Cecilia, don't be scared—wake up!"

Garrett: "…"

Oh no, in the rush back and forth, the previous mother was taken off the operating table but not out of the room. The skeleton didn't scare the waiting mother, but instead, she fainted…

"Selina! Take her out of here!"
